  1. QC notes: What's better for the parts when they're referring to Minaha, but not by name? "Her" or "that girl"?
  2. Personally, I'm inclined to just leave Yamato Nadeshiko untranslated for that weeb flavor rather than try to localize it since we already have a localized option that everyone but us seems to be using. And I'm pretty sure most of /a/ knows what it means. If we do localize it I guess we could change it to "You're a flower, now?!" or something like that but more thought out and make the joke about her changing from a flower to a lady?
  3.
  4. shii: Before I knew it, the rainy season was upon us. (changed to past tense)
  5. I feel like something warm today.
  6. I greet a stray cat on my way to school. This much is just my usual routine.
  7. But I think I managed to get a bit closer to my kouhai, Honda-san. (added honorific)
  8. It's been nearly three months since I was appointed president. I think I'm somehow getting the hang of it.
  9. tama: President!
  10. shii: What's the matter, Honda?
  11. tama: President...
  12. If I could no longer draw, would you all hate me? Would you abandon me?
  13. Would you go away? Would you still be my president? (changed to "Would")
  14. shii: Honda-san, (added honorific)
  15. This is not the place... Let us go to school first.
  16. crowd: Did she make her cry?
  17. Such a cute girl...
  18. *A lovers' dispute?
  19.
  20. sign: Skill Level Up, part 2 (capitalized title)
  21. scrolling text: This program is a work of fiction, and the characters, organizations, places, laws and names that appear in it have no relation to any actual entities. (I swear to god, if you actually typeset this...)
  22. shii: A slump?
  23. tama: Yes. I was thinking of how good that girl from the other day was at drawing, and then I couldn't draw anymore. (rephrased)
  24. And then I had this nightmare tonight...
  25. minaha: If Honda Tamaki can't draw, she's of no use to the SNS club anymore. (added "of", maybe change to "the SNS club has no use for her anymore"?)
  26. chibis: Yay! Yay!
  27. shii: Sorry, Honda-san. I choose to be with her. (added honorific)
  28. tama: Wait, president! Wait! Don't go!
  29. tama: President! You're coughing blood?
  30. shii: I'm fine. I just choked a bit.
  31. *sign: Strawberry and cherry petals
  32.
  33. shii: What should I say? "You'll be out of it soon"... I don't really know that, and I can't guarantee it.
  34. For starters, you should get her out of your mind. We have tests coming up too.
  35. tama: Yes, I'll try.
  36. shii: I think that piece of advice just made her feel worse. Programmers don't get slumps, if it were Fujikawa or Aya I'm sure-
  37. minaha: Everyone, listen. This book called "Stardust Intenzione" is such a masterpiece, it deserves to be remembered for all eternity.
  38. shii: I think this sight would've killed Aya.
  39. tama: Minaha-chan, what are you doing in my classroom?
  40. minaha: My, what a coincidence, Honda Tamaki.
  41. I realized that strength is not enough, I also need allies to fight. That's why I'm promoting this masterpiece.
  42. tama: Are you going to challenge me to another contest? (rephrased)
  43. minaha: No, this time I'm here for a higher purpose-
  44. yimine: AAAAAAAAHHHHHHHH! (added fujo screaming)
  45. yumine: What are you doing to Tama-chan?
  46. tama: Yumine?
  47. yumine: Haa-san! Not content with the illustration club, now you're venting your insolence on Tama-chan too? (changed to "you're venting") (changed to Haa-san)
  48. minaha: What are you accusing me of?
  49. yumine: Just so you know, Hikono-kun is totally a seme! (added "totally" because of the zettai)
  50. iino: Now, now, don't fight.
  51. yumine: Yet in spite of that, you...
  52. minaha: Haa? He only loves Ozuhiko, the author even said that, right? (added "Haa?", rephrased second half as smug question)
  53. tama: Of course, Yumine is in the illustration club too, so they know each other. (Minaha is clearly talking in the background, could you not make out what she was saying?)
  54. Her name's Minaha, therefore "Haa-chan".
  55. minaha: Why do you add "-chan", Honda Tamaki? Just who do you think I-
  56. iino: Yes, yes, go back to you own classroom.
  57. tama: I'm sorry about the ruckus, president.
  58. Huh? (added line)
  59. yumine: Tama-chan, class is about to start.
  60.
  61. shii: It seems Honda has many friends, so I'm sure she'll be fine. She doesn't need to resort to getting advice from me.
  62. seki: Good morning, Shii.
  63. shii: I couldn't give her any good advice. Rather, I probably made things worse.
  64. I should have tried a different way to cheer her up. I shouldn't have invited her to the SNS club to begin with.
  65. seki: Huh? (added line)
  66.
  67. seki: It's no big deal to be in a slump, as much of a pain as it is.
  68. shii: I hope she gets out of it.
  69. seki: We can talk about it if she comes to the clubroom.
  70. shii: And if she doesn't?
  71. seki: Hey. Enough with the negative expectations now. (added "Hey.")
  72. seki: Yo!
  73. tama: Se- Seki-senpai!
  74. seki: Aren't you going in, Honda-san? (added honorific)
  75. tama: Um, I feel like I have no right to. I mean, when I draw...
  76. No matter how many pictures I draw, they all come out like this!
  77. rest: I can't tell how that's any different from normal. (restructured to avoid double negative)
  78. seki: Say, Honda-san, do you like me? (added honorific)
  79. tama: I do. During that all-nighter, too, I thought you looked cool working so hard.
  80. But is it fine for me to like you?
  81. seki: There's nothing wrong with saying you like something you like.
  82. I also like how you try so hard, both then and now. The you from back then is still here, and your right hand is still moving, right?
  83. tama: Yes. (capitalized)
  84. *seki: Then you'll get out of this slump in no time. (grammar check)
  85. By the way, have you had lunch yet? I made too much, so I'll give you some.
  86. tama: Ah, really?
  87. *shii: I'm no match for that.
  88.
  89. tama: Thanks for the meal! I'll be going back to my classroom then.
  90. seki: Okay, see you after school.
  91. tama: Goodbye.
  92. shii: I...
  93. ...really think you're better suited to be president. (changed to lowercase since it's the same sentence)
  94. seki: No way.
  95. I can't pay attention to the small details like you. I actually respect that about you. Managing our schedule, making plans for the year...
  96. *shii: Ah, now that you mention it, about the summer doujin fair...
  97. [NOTE TO EDITOR: In this next segment, Seki tries to put on a ladylike character but her boyish disposition constantly shows through. I've done a lousy job of conveying that through alternately fancier and blunter speech.]
  98. seki: Besides that, you'd be perfect if only you smiled more.
  99. Oh my, we seem to be falling behind schedule.
  100. shii: Who's that supposed to be?
  101. seki: Don't say such things, smiling is no trivial matter.
  102. shii: Gross.
  103. tama: Haa-chan, lunch break is about to end.
  104. minaha: Don't call me Haa-chan! I'm a first year like you.
  105. tama: Eh? Really?
  106. minaha: Just what did you think!?
  107. shii: Hm? Did you forget something, Honda-san? (added honorific)
  108. tama: I'm sorry about the ruckus. Haa-chan said she wanted to go to the clubroom.
  109. minaha: It's so unfair that only you get to! I want to meet Iris-sensei too... (added ellipsis since she trails off)
  110. seki: Is that the girl from the other day? It's hard to tell without my glasses.
  111. minaha: Would you happen to be Iris-sensei?
  112. [NOTE TO EDITOR: neutral "maa" -> boyish assertion -> casual backpedaling -> ladylike, polite copula.]
  113. *seki: Well... That's right- Maybe- Indeed. (is she backpedaling on the statement that she's Iris, or on her speech? If the later, swap out "Maybe-" for "I mean-" or "Yes-" depending on whether it's specifically referring to the previous word choice or just slowly growing more formal.)
  114. shii: What character are you trying to be? (rephrased)
  115. minaha: Your book is my Bible. Please sign it for me! (Bible should be capitalized, you heathen)
  116. seki: Gladly...
  117. minaha: I'm so happy... It's settled, I'm joining the SNS club.
  118. Then I'll make a game based on this story.
  119. seki & tama: Eh? (added line)
  120. *tama: What are you deciding on your own!? Also, I'm the one in charge of drawing. (rephrased)
  121. seki: Honda-san does have a point. (added honorific)
  122. minaha: No! I want to draw! I want to make it!
  123. It's always been my dream to work together with Iris-sensei.
  124. shii: In that case, you can both draw, there's no need to fight.
  125. seki: Wha-
  126. tama: Can we really do that?
  127. shii: If the coloring is consistent, it doesn't matter if there are several artists.
  128. seki: Hold on, hold on! (changed to be more boyish)
  129. *Wait one moment! To bring up such an old work. As a storyteller who lives for the moment, how can I allow that? (changed to be more sophisticated)
  130. minaha: Is there really no way?
  131. I have always liked your work, but because I'm still unskilled and inexperienced in love...
  132. *seki: My heart hurts. (changed to "My heart" because of the kokoro)
  133. shii: "There's nothing wrong with saying you like something you like," right? (changed to show she's being cheeky by quoting Seki)
  134. seki: This girl...
  135. That's right! We didn't make it into the summer fair, so, even if we make a new game now, we won't have a place to publish it. (added comma)
  136. Therefore, there is no need to make haste with our work.
  137. shii: Ah, now that you mention it.
  138. Fujikawa is negotiating with an acquaintance's circle to let us sell our game with theirs.
  139. So we will be able to publish our newest work at the summer fair.
  140. minaha: Really?
  141. tama: Isn't that great?
  142. seki: B-But there's only two months before that. The schedule will get too tight again. (added stuttering intro)
  143. shii: One more reason not to reject additional staff. (rephrased)
  144. With a second illustrator, Honda-san's workload will be halved. (added honorific)
  145. And since the story is already finished, our work won't get stuck in the plot stage like last time.
  146. *seki: I get it. I understand. I accept.
  147. shii: It's settled then. Our new work for the summer fair will be "Stardust Intenzione".
  148. sign: "Stardust Intenzione" by Iris.
  149. seki: However! You still have to prove your worth to join our club.
  150. Work together with Honda-san and see this game through to the end. You can do it, right? (added honorific, rephrased last sentence to be more confident prince character)
  151. minaha: Yes. I will do my best!
  152. tama: Seki-senpai!
  153. shii: She tried too hard for too long.
  154. *tama: The SNS club will take part in the summer fair. It seems our daily life will change again. (rephrased)
  155. By the way, what is the summer doujin fair?
  156.
  157. yumine: The summer doujin fair is a large-scale market for self-published works held in the summer.
  158. Many businesses set up booths too, and people come from all over the world. (changed to plural)
  159. tama: That sounds impressive.
  160. *If I'm not careful, Haa-chan might take all the work herself.
  161. I've got to work hard!
  162. half: Good morning.
  163. tama: Good morning.
  164. Say, Yumine, was that beautiful girl in our class before?
  165. yumine: Ah, that's Marika-san. (added honorific)
  166. half: Reading this book has changed me. I will live like stardust from now on.
  167. sign: Stardust Intenzione (first volume) by Iris.
  168. tama: You have changed another fate, Seki-senpai!
  169. [NOTE TO EDITOR: "Yamato nadeshiko" is repeatedly used in this segment; I have used various combinations of "Japanese", "elegant" and "lady" to get the meaning through. At the end, Marika plays dumb by saying the name of a different flower instead, a joke that I found hard to fit into the theme of the previous lines.]
  170. half: This book depicts the elegance of a Yamato Nadeshiko in love that all girls ought to look up to. (Yamato Nadeshiko)
  171. tama: I don't remember that!
  172. tama: Um, I think you should try to keep that book a secret.
  173. half: Why? But it's so good...
  174. tama: Seki-senpai probably doesn't want people to know about this. (rephrased)
  175. You- you don't want to have a lot of Yamato Nadeshiko rivals! (Yamato Nadeshiko)
  176. half: I see! I'll be careful.
  177. sign: Inbox / From Fuda Yumine
  178. yumine/sign: A girl from our class praised your book saying it depicts a Yamato Nadeshiko we should look up to. (Yamato Nadeshiko)
  179. yumine: You really look pretty, and you hair is so silky...
  180. half: Thank you very much. I got up at 5 today to do my hair.
  181. I'm so sleepy because of that.
  182. yumine: Amazing...
  183. Is being a Yamato Nadeshiko so much trouble? (Yamato Nadeshiko)
  184. Do you mind if I take this chance to sketch you?
  185. half: Sure, I'm up for it!
  186. tama: I'll join in then.
  187. half: What face should I make? I guess something shoujo-style is best.
  188. yumine: No, your usual face is fine.
  189. It seems her personality hasn't changed.
  190. half: Pretty girl looking over her shoulder.
  191. iino: Oh, you're sketching?
  192. tama: Ah? Yes. (added line)
  193. iino: Isn't her left shoulder's length a bit off?
  194. tama: Ah, you're right. You know about drawing, Iino-san? (added honorific)
  195. iino: My younger sister is pretty knowledgeable.
  196. yumine: Come on, stop trying to look and stand still, I'm drawing you!
  197. half: I'm not moving, I'm just stretching my neck.
  198. tama: Is that part of being a Yamato Nadeshiko? (Yamato Nadeshiko)
  199. *But your hair really is pretty. Is it because you're half-foreign? (I'm trying to avoid this coming off as insulting, it would be better to say she's half-whatever, but I don't think we know that)
  200. half: That has nothing to do with it. You're pretty too, Honda. A real Yamato Nadeshiko. (Yamato Nadeshiko)
  201. tama: Not at all! My hair's a bit frizzy, as usual. (added comma)
  202. iino: Do you like wearing your hair long, Honda?
  203. tama: Yes. I want to become a pretty woman.
  204. My mom used to wear it long, so I think if I have long, pretty hair my dad will like it too.
  205. half: Right! Let's switch places then!
  206. tama: This is so embarrassing!
  207. yumine: Tama-chan, please,
  208. Can you make the ecstatic face of a boy about to lovingly tease another boy?
  209. tama: I've never felt that!
  210. [NOTE TO EDITOR: Tama slips back into her dialect for this line.]
  211. tama: I can't become a bride, papa!
  212. iino: Now, now, calm down a bit.
  213. [NOTE TO EDITOR: It couldn't be helped.]
  214. *yumine: It can't be helped. Marika-san, can you help Tama-chan? (added honorific)
  215. half: Okay.
  216. Cheer up.
  217. yumine: Tama-chan, try to hold Marika-san's necktie in a cool way. (added honorific)
  218. tama: Um... Like this?
  219. half: We're like a prince and a princess.
  220. yumine: Ah, this is good...
  221. iino: Isn't that quite different from reality?
  222. teacher: Class is starting!
  223. yumine: Thanks, Tama-chan.
  224. half: Ah, I wanted to draw a bit more!
  225. iino: You're pretty good too, Shimizu-san. (added honorific)
  226. half: Thank you! I may not look like it, but back in elementary school they called me the alstroemeria of art contests.
  227. *iino: I thought you were a Yamato Nadeshiko. (Yamato Nadeshiko)
  228. minaha: That girl can draw better than you. Just what do you think you're-
  229. iino: Honda-san, what's wrong? (added honorific)
  230. tama: Iino-san, how do you become good at drawing? (added honorific)
  231. iino: Why are you asking me? (grammar check)
  232. tama: What about your sister?
  233. iino: Ah, my sister... Lately she's drawing every time I look at her.
  234. tama: I see.
  235. iino: Just like with studying, I guess if you like it, or if you do it all the time, you'll get better.
  236. tama: All the time... During class too?
  237. iino: Ah, these make my notes easier to read.
  238. *But you know, just from looking at others, I can sometimes spot mistakes in sketches. (Is she saying that just by looking at other people's sketches she can spot mistakes in those sketches or that just by looking at lots of art she's become able to spot mistakes in other people's art?)
  239. tama: I see.
  240. iino: Honda-san, could it be that you've just been copying manga art until now? (added honorific)
  241. tama: Eh? how can you tell?
  242. iino: I just figured.
  243. It really is like studying. You have to work on the things you don't like and you're bad at, too.
  244. Like, for example...
  245. Paying attention in class.
  246.
  247. tama: At any rate, the more I draw, the faster I'll get good.
  248. minaha: Our drawing styles really are completely different.
  249. tama: Ah! Why are you here?
  250. minaha: I came to return the book I borrowed from Murakami-senpai.
  251. As she said, if the coloring is consistent, it somehow won't feel out of place.
  252. tama: If the coloring is consistent?
  253. minaha: Coloring, digital coloring. Don't tell me you don't even know about that?
  254. tama: I think they told me about it during our sleepover.
  255. *But for this game they just used my pictures as they were.
  256. minaha: Ah, I see.
  257. tama: Haa-chan, I have a favor to ask!
  258. minaha: For the shadow, I'd go for something simple like this.
  259. Then we add a new layer on top of the draft.
  260. With a blurry brush, we add a bit of reddish orange to her bangs
  261. to give it a lighter appearance.
  262. tama: Oh, I didn't know this technique.
  263. minaha: And next, a bit of reflection.
  264. If you add a white edge to hair and other things, it looks much better.
  265. seki: Ah, I thought you'd come.
  266. tama: Hello!
  267. shii: I see you two are eager to learn.
  268. kayo: Are you getting along better?
  269. minaha: Tha- that's not it!
  270. kayo: Anyway, I have good news. We get to display our game at Temawari-san's booth in the summer fair. (added honorific)
  271. minaha: Temawari-san? They're pretty famous... (added honorific)
  272. tama: It's that artist Yumine admires.
  273. seki: In exchange, we have to help as sales staff.
  274. minaha: So we've secured a place to make Iris-sensei's work known to the world...
  275. *This isn't good enough. You need to get better quickly. (changed first sentence)
  276. shii: Unfortunately, this is all for today's club activities. We have to leave school earlier than usual.
  277. minaha: Why?
  278. shii: Why? There's a test tomorrow.
  279.
  280. tama: I completely forgot, there's a test tomorrow.
  281. *Well, it's just an achievement test, so it won't affect my grades... (rephrased)
  282. tama: Let's draw a few pictures and try to get closer to Haa-chan's level.
  283. Ah, but I can't study coloring on my own.
  284. It's as Iino-san said. I've just been copying manga and paid no attention to things like sketching until recently. Sketching... (added honorific)
  285. tama: This screen may be too small to sketch from it.
  286. If I transfer them... Let's see, it's this file...
  287. Now to print it...
  288. baba: Tama-chan, I got some loquat, do you want some?
  289. tama: Thanks, grandma, but not now.
  290. tama: It's unexpectedly hard to draw yourself.
  291. I'm not pretty at all! I'm actually quite short. I wish I were a bit taller.
  292. And somehow my hands look really rough! It's because I've been drawing only old men.
  293. Let's draw one more before studying for the test! This time with a more difficult pose.
  294.
  295. tama: In the end, I kept drawing until I went to sleep.
  296. *But it's fine, it's just an achievement test.
  297. Yumine, how much did you study?
  298. yumine: Don't talk to me, the formulas will fall out of my head.
  299. tama: I'll read through my notes at least.
  300. iino: Honda-san... (added honorific)
  301. Are you thinking of sending pictures to some shady place?
  302.
  303. yumine: Good work. Classical literature's up next.
  304. tama: Those problems came up just the other day, and I even reviewed them, but I should have studied more.
  305. yumine: Let's switch to the next subject, Tama-chan.
  306. half: Yes, change is important. People have limitations. Flowers are beautiful because they are ephemeral.
  307. iino: Was it hard to arrange your hair?
  308. shii: What's the matter, after that message you got about your book, you felt such an intense mix of embarrassment and joy that you couldn't study?
  309.
  310. minaha: Ah, Iris-sensei!
  311. seki: Thank you for your message.
  312. nekosenpai: It's a promise.
  313. shii: You broke it?
  314. tama: If it's my mother's wish, I'll do anything.
  315. sign: Precision machinery.
