- A. Turn Off Windows Update
- ---------------------------
- 1. Open the Start Menu and press the "T" key.
- Note: This will search the Start Menu for items starting with "T".
- 2. Find and right-click the icon for "This PC". Select "Manage" from the context menu that appears. (This should bring up the "Computer Management" window.)
- | Note: Depending on your computer's settings, a User Account Control
- | window might first appear asking "Do you want to allow this app to make
- | changes to your device?" If it does, check that the window shows the
- | app name as "Computer Management Snapin Launcher" with "Microsoft
- | Windows" as the verified publisher, then click "Yes".
- 3. Expand the "Services and Applications" item in the left pane of the "Computer Management" window, and select the "Services" item under that.
- 4. Select one of the items that appear in the right pane, then press "W" to go to the items that start with "W".
- 5. Scroll down to right-click "Windows Update" and select "Properties" from the context menu that appears.
- 6. Click the "Stop" button, set "Startup type" to "Disabled", and click "OK".
- B. Revert to the Previous Build of Windows 10
- ----------------------------------------------
- Method 1 - Using the Recovery Console:
- 1. Restart your PC. When you get to the sign-in screen, hold the Shift key down while you select Power > Restart.
- 2. After your PC restarts to the Choose an option screen, select Troubleshoot > Advanced Options > Go back to the previous build. If you don’t see this option, try Method 2.
- Method 2 - Using the Settings app from Safe Mode:
- 1. Restart your PC. When you get to the sign-in screen, hold the Shift key down while you select Power > Restart.
- 2. After your PC restarts to the Choose an option screen, select Troubleshoot > Advanced options > Startup Settings > Restart.
- 3. After your PC restarts, you'll see a list of options. Select 4 or F4 to start your PC in Safe Mode.
- 4. Open the Settings app.
- 5. Select Update & security and then the Recovery tab.
- 6. Under “Go back to an earlier build”, click the Get started button and follow the instructions.
