  1. How to Revert the Windows 10 Anniversary Update

  3. A. Turn Off Windows Update
  4. ---------------------------
  5. 1. Open the Start Menu and press the "T" key.
  6. Note: This will search the Start Menu for items starting with "T".
  7. 2. Find and right-click the icon for "This PC". Select "Manage" from the context menu that appears. (This should bring up the "Computer Management" window.)
  8. | Note: Depending on your computer's settings, a User Account Control
  9. | window might first appear asking "Do you want to allow this app to make
  10. | changes to your device?" If it does, check that the window shows the
  11. | app name as "Computer Management Snapin Launcher" with "Microsoft
  12. | Windows" as the verified publisher, then click "Yes".
  13. 3. Expand the "Services and Applications" item in the left pane of the "Computer Management" window, and select the "Services" item under that.
  14. 4. Select one of the items that appear in the right pane, then press "W" to go to the items that start with "W".
  15. 5. Scroll down to right-click "Windows Update" and select "Properties" from the context menu that appears.
  16. 6. Click the "Stop" button, set "Startup type" to "Disabled", and click "OK".

  18. B. Revert to the Previous Build of Windows 10

  20. Method 1 - Using the Recovery Console:
  21. 1. Restart your PC. When you get to the sign-in screen, hold the Shift key down while you select Power > Restart.
  22. 2. After your PC restarts to the Choose an option screen, select Troubleshoot > Advanced Options > Go back to the previous build. If you don’t see this option, try Method 2.

  24. Method 2 - Using the Settings app from Safe Mode:
  25. 1. Restart your PC. When you get to the sign-in screen, hold the Shift key down while you select Power > Restart.
  26. 2. After your PC restarts to the Choose an option screen, select Troubleshoot > Advanced options > Startup Settings > Restart.
  27. 3. After your PC restarts, you'll see a list of options. Select 4 or F4 to start your PC in Safe Mode.
  28. 4. Open the Settings app.
  29. 5. Select Update & security and then the Recovery tab.
  30. 6. Under “Go back to an earlier build”, click the Get started button and follow the instructions.
