  1. Name: The Cortosis Consortium
  2. Species/Subrace: Cortosi mainly. Variety of other species who have joined in hopes of a better life.
  3. DCS Member Species: Yes
  4. Historical Fluff: The Cortosi were born amid a thick canopy of trees in world filled with a vast and endless jungle. It was called Catalan and it harbored their race for year upon year as they evolved past their starting point and into the stars. Oh, did they evolve. From mud huts to towering skyscrapers, they polluted their planet until a decision was made by the highest echelon of corporate presidents.
  5.
  6. They had to evacuate. To leave their planet or face destruction. Perhaps it was luck that they left just as agents of the Symphony investigated their fate or perhaps it was simply skill as any trueborn Cortosi would boast. Still, they left their smoldering planet behind to enter into a bloodbath of steel and fire. When they left, they had over a thousand ships filled with civilians and soldiers alike to chart out a new home admist the stars. It was after the ENEMY found them that they were left with five. The newly elected High President watched as ship after ship slowly died from lack of supplies and a berth of overpopulation. He watched as his species slowly died out. That is when the Cortosi found the trail left by the DCS. To call it a miracle is a understatement.
  7.
  8. They would never regain the centuries of technology and countless lives lost during their journey but they did find some semblence of safety once they found the DCS. To call the start of diplomacy rocky is an understatement. It seemed that the other species among the galaxy had a strange way of speaking, they made strange noises with their lips not disimilar to the animals of their homeworld. It was strange but it was a welcome relief to simply find something among the stars that did not want to kill them. So it went that they slowly integrated into the DCS into the roles of simply shady businessmen. It seems that they were one of the few races that never took a step backwards on their free market stance even when faced with annhilation and a time of crisis.
  9.
  10. It put them in a effective position capitalize on this as they bought out countless fledgling corporations and entrenched themselves firmly in the DCS. It is said that everyone one has at least one thing either made or sold by a the Cortosi themselves or a sub-branch of their organization and they would not likely be wrong. Just recently, they have reoutfitted their ship for colonization and have embarked to truly become a faction upon the galactic stage.

  16. Personality Fluff: To be born a member of the Consortium is to be born a cog in a vast machine that runs off the labors of it's lowest citizen. It is more than that though, it means having a vast freedom unknown to hundreds of other races. To the Cortosi, there has never been a day when they haven't functioned this way even during their archaic periods on their vast jungle homeword. Deep inside pyramids made of mud, they perfected the barter system while the rest of their technology lagged behind. When the first wooden structure was built, the first vestiages of united currency was already being decided upon. As the first automobile was made, a revolution took place in the economic circles as the idea of a free market system took hold. To be a member of the Consortium is to be a frontrunner in both commerce and in the economy. From their first halting steps from the birthing burrows to the modern ships of today, it is to be a great race among those who have fallen from glory. There is a dark side to the Cortosi however as many of their own race have found out in due time. War is looked down upon in all aspects after a grand war nearly annhilated their species while it was in their infancy.
  17.
  18. No, there are still wars but they are waged in the shadows to regain control over markets and to stop other nations from advancing. From the shadows, Cortosi agents strike out to advance the agenda of their humble high president and of countless board members, each with their own seperate cadres of agents working from the shadows. Specific stock is placed on a agent's psionic abilities with some even being rumored of having the ability to attack others with their mind. Speaking of the board, to be a member of the Cortosi government is to be seeped in political intrigue and corruption. Rumors speak of decadent palaces controlled by the highest members of government filled with slaves while others talk of corporate-run assassins. These rumors are not true. One does not wish to investigate these rumors or you will be dealt with. It should be noted that the free market and democratic philosphy of the Cortosi have also attracted the disinfranchised of many other nations who are being put to work in a good manner. Any complaints of sweatshop-type conditions should be dismissed and gossipers should be reported to your nearest Cortosi Freedom Station.

  24. Government Fluff: The Cortosi Government is made up of a board of directors each selected by the leading corporations to advance their agenda. Among these board members, a High President is chosen every six years with there being no term limit on those who are succesful enough to make it. The voting process is simple and organized in a proportional system with everyone in the Consortium being allowed to vote. Rumors of any corruption or fraud are simply rumors and should be dismissed. Further down the line, the government takes ownership of all land that is not of Corporation ownership. To advance, there are two paths that one can take varying from moving up the goverment to joining a corporation. Advancement requirements differ from corporation to corporation but the government is fairly simplistic. Jobs of varying degrees with the two sub-divisions of legislative and Judicial being the highest tiers one can ascend to. Taxes are a thing. Basically ask me if there is anytihng else. Getting writing fatigue so no more.
