  1. Here is the problem with the court system, when it was created... largely the crimes committed were largely understandable by a jury of peers. You stabbed a guy, you stole, etc. Even with advancements in weapons, jurors still understood the concepts "a guy had some kind of projectile, and that projectile killed another person".
  2. Now we are getting into an era where so much "crime" happens with computers where we have a system in which the laws written by computer illiterates, enforced by people who are largely computer illiterate, prosecuted by people who are computer illiterate, and finally judged by ~12 people who are likely computer illiterate.
  3. Even if you ARE tech savvy. Even if you have an understanding of general computer science, there is so much that can be done that you would still not understand. You know how to code in Python, but do you understand the theory behind how bittorrent works? You understand how bittorrent works but do you understand the sql injection (or other "hacking" methods)?
  4. It's not just "cyber crime" but also software patents and technology patents. If you don't understand how Bluetooth works, then how are you supposed to make a judgement on whether or not someone is infringing on the patent. I know I couldn't make that judgement.
  5. I think it's time we had a court reform, I don't know exactly how it would look. Specialty courts for specialty crimes? A volunteer list of people who are interviewed and can pass a specialty test, and they get called on as jurors in those kinds of cases? I honestly don't know, but watching as a chilling effect takes over the tech industry because people who are ignorant get appointed to juries is disheartening.
