  1. For quite a while I have been experiencing an issue with display corruption on some websites. The issue shows up either as black boxes (fullscreen) or as white boxes (windowed mode) on the page or other areas of the browser window. I have spent some time with Mozilla in attempting to determine the cause of the issue and have been unable to determine the exact cause but have not been able to rule out the drivers as a factor either. I'm bringing this to your attention so that you may be able to potentially identify the cause of the issue and if it is in your drivers resolve it in a future update. Here are the facts as we know it.
  2.
  3. 1) It isn't isolated to Firefox. It has been reported to occur on other applications.
  4.
  5. 2) It happens on all versions of Firefox tested (going back to official version 16) in some form. Version 18 happens to be the version where it is noticed the most
  6.
  7. 3) It only happens with AMD drivers version 12.11 beta or newer. 12.10 and older appear to be ok from what we have seen.
  8.
  9. 4) Appears to potentially be isolated to AMD 7xxx series cards only on Desktop and Laptop platforms.
  10.
  11. 5) Disabling Direct2D in the browser or disabling Azure (which uses Direct2D) seems to be viable workarounds per user reports
  12.
  13. 6) Previously appeared to be isolated to Windows 8; MS KB2670838 update came out recently which updates the DirectX platform among other things for Windows 7 users and that is when it started happening for another user on that OS.
  14.
  15. Initial platform tested for reported issue on Mozilla bug reporting site.
  16. System: Alienware M17x R4
  17. Video Card: AMD Radeon HD 7970M
  18. OS: Windows 8 Pro 64-bit w/ MCE
  19. Enduro status: Disabled (AMD card discrete mode)
  20.
  21. Can you please respond to this inquiry? We would appreciate some input on this on the Mozilla bug report as well.
  22.
  23. Bug 837489 (Mozilla Bugzilla): https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=837489
  24.
  25. Examples of the corruption in Firefox is attached. One of them shows it on the GUI and not just on the site.
