  95. 6a. Where to Find Matches
  96.
  97.    A new Steam group has been formed with several active members regularly looking for
  98.    matches (http://steamcommunity.com/groups/korewamelty). Players of all skill levels are encouraged to
  99.    join and hop in the chat to find a match partner. Most members are currently in North America but
  100.    everyone is welcome.
  101.
  102.    You can also seek matches via IRC in #mbaa (channel) on mizuumi.net (server). If you do not have an
  103.    IRC client, you can use this mibbit link to join the channel via your web browser:
  104.    http://bit.ly/y5e2JX
  105.
  106.    Make sure to have your port forwarded (more on that below).
  107.
  108. 6b. Best Practices
  109.
  110.    | I am experiencing lag and/or disconnects. What can I do?
  111.    Your connection to your match partner is poor or unstable. Try the following:
  112.
  113.    1. Always stop any downloads/uploads/streams/torrents/etc that are running before hosting. Be aware
  114.       that if you are on a shared connection your experience will be affected by the internet use of
  115.       your roommates/family.
  116.    2. Do not use a wireless connection if possible.
  117.    3. During poor connection Melty Blood netplayers can experience what is known as a "desync". This
  118.       means that the clients are no longer communicating with each other correctly. If the other player
  119.       stops moving, moves in a fixed pattern, whiffs in empty space or neither starts a new match or
  120.       leaves after a match has ended you may have experienced a desync. If a desync occurs, simply exit
  121.       and rehost.
  122.    4. If you are experiencing a significant amount of desyncs while hosting with the netplay tool, try
  123.       hosting without it to allow the client to use its native delay calculation.
  124.    5. It is strongly recommended to play people as near to you as possible. Most issues experienced with
  125.       netplay are due to a poor connection between the two players, the risk of this is significantly
  126.       reduced when the players are geographically near each other.
  127.
  128.    | My connection is OK but I am still experiencing lag. What is happening?
  129.    Melty Blood netplay is more resource intensive than other modes of the game. Many players find that
  130.    although their computer can run versus/arcade/training mode that they will experience hardware-based
  131.    lag during network play. The following steps may help:
  132.
  133.    1. Under the Option menu turn off Stage Animation, Character Filter and Screen Filter. Also set your
  134.       resolution to the default size (640x480) either in this menu or when starting Melty Blood.
  135.    2. Open your Task Manager (Ctrl + Alt + Delete) while Melty Blood is running. Go to the Processes
  136.       tab, click the Image Name column header to order the list alphabetically and find MBAA.exe. Right
  137.       click MBAA.exe and select High under priority.
  138.    3. In the Task Manager (see step 2) Right click MBAA.exe again and choose Set Affinity. If you have
  139.       two CPUs listed, uncheck all items except the last CPU. If you have four or six CPUs listed,
  140.       uncheck everything but the last two.
  141.
  142. 6c. Hosting (How to Forward Ports)
  143.
  144.    In order to host you will need to configure your router to forward a port. In depth guides can
  145.    usually be found for your router at http://portforward.com/ which allows you to search by router
  146.    manufacturer and model. A general idea of the process for most routers:
  147.
  148.    1. Open Run (Start Menu > Run or Windows Key + R) and type "cmd". In the Command Prompt window type
  149.       ipconfig.
  150.    2. Find your computer's IP address (this will also show in the hosting screen in Melty Blood) and the
  151.       default gateway (commonly 192.168.0.1 or 192.168.1.1).
  152.    3. Type the default gateway into your web browser's address bar.
  153.    4. You may be prompted to login. The default username and password depends on your router model, you
  154.       may be able to find this in the website mentioned earlier or through Google.
  155.    5. Once logged in you will be looking for port or application settings. This area may be labeled
  156.       connection rules, security, gaming or something similar. If you are unable to locate these
  157.       settings, you may be able to Google the information for your router using the manufacturer and
  158.       model information.
  159.    6. Set port 46318 to forward to your IP (found in step 2) for TCP and UDP.
  160.    7. Save the changes and exit.
  161.    8. Check your port (http://www.yougetsignal.com/tools/open-ports/)
  162.    9. Start hosting and have someone try to connect.
