eggsac

i could hear it in the bathroom again
the tapping of its spindly legs
against the side of the tub
a shadow fell across me
as i emptied the trash
in the alley behind the building
i didn't look up
just tried to stay on task
as something slid into the dumpster
squirming down deep inside
moving the rubbish in waves
i worry that it's pregnant
and some night when i'm sleeping
it will give birth above me
hanging from the ceiling
i don't want to be the unconcious midwife
of my deepest fears
a friend asked why i don't move
but the market is terrible
and to be honest
this is better than being alone
