  1. As the actual creator of the Evo Moment #37 video, I still firmly believe that Parry is one of the worst intentional mechanics Capcom has ever added to any of their fighting games (until X-Factor).
  2.
  3. People debate like it's true risk/reward when really it's just terrible game design. It brought silly option selects, allowed more "whatever" jump-ins (instead of needing reads / anticipation, reactions), and the entire game had to be built and balanced (lol!) around the parry concept, which ultimately made the game feel absolutely clunky until said mechanic was incorporated.
  4. SF3 (and Parry) did nothing to revitalize the fighting game genre. In fact, it almost outright killed it in the West. Without the EVO Tournament Series bringing it back as an invitational (along with A3), it never would have had any form of resurgence in the West.

  6. Evo Moment #37 gleaned nothing more than "oh, that seems like it was cool" or "look at those nerds" when it came out. The vast majority looking at it had no idea what was going on. It got the majority of attention after SF4 came out and the FGC size exploded, giving way to a greater amount of informed players. People were actually interested in big FG moments and, of course, #37 stood out when they looked back.

  8. MOTW and GG have taken the "parry" concept and done a much better job on execution (among other games).

  10. I feel that people are looking through rose-colored glasses when looking at 3S. It really is the least "Street Fighter" Street Fighter out of the serious SF titles... thanks directly to Parry. It is only interesting at the highest possible level of play. Beyond that, there's pretty much zero excitement.

  12. ST, HF, A2, and CvS2 are all better Street Fighter games.
  13.
  14. Also, if someone wants to write an article about the savior(s) of the FGC during the "dark ages", talk about Evo, Final Round, Big E Productions, and the numerous other groups and individuals that kept the torch lit.
