a random rant

a rant for newblood and moralfags:

i understand some of you get agitated with rape apologists, people who defend rapists publicly and campaigns like #freejahar. what all of you need to understand is, that this is the world. and there's 7 billion of us in it. no matter how morally simple your stance may seem to you, there will ALWAYS be people who beg to differ, for reasons of their own. there will ALWAYS be opinions other than yours. something morally as simplistic as hunting pedophiles is debated, for god's sake.

so i urge you, all of you, to accept those differing voices and opinions that disgust you. not because they are part of freedom of speech (they are, but that's not why i want you to accept them.), but for your own mental peace. one simply does not go about defeating every online (or offline) troll and dissenting voice one encounters. live with it. and yes, this ideally should include hate speech too. it is painful, very painful, for example, to listen to domestic violence jokes when you're a victim of it. but you cannot force people to empathize. arguing with people on an issue that you are connected to emotionally simply hurts you more. not them. and anyways, there's an opinion that laughing about something makes its fear and trauma go away. (not sure if i agree with this.)

so please, instead of "battling" and "conquering" online trolls (which generally ends with you blocking them or calling for help from your other friends, which is basically a victory for the troll anyways), i suggest you use the time more productively in developing opinions, learning more about online privacy/security or doing something really productive like doxing/v&ing pedophiles.
