  1. Episode 3 Outline
  2.
  3. 1. The episode begins with a brief recap of the events from the previous episode (Last time on Pokemon: Johto Quest! Emily and her Mareep Eddy have picked up some emotional scars. What do I mean by this you ask? Well not only did our heroes get bit by a Houndour, but an old woman told Emily that getting bit by one of those creatures might cause her to transform into one! Oh and our heroes decided to stay at the Lake of Rage with this guy who has the biggest grudge against HootHoots in the entire history of Pokemon! So, will the journey be any less scarring for our heroes in this episode? Ehh.)
  4.
  5. 2. Emily and Eddy arrive in Mahogany Town and stop to catch their breath. A few moments later, they notice that the town's weather is colder than in the colonies. Not only that but they also notice that the town is quite small compared to anything seen in the colonies, as it only consists of two houses, a Pokemon Center, and a gym.
  6.
  7. 3. Emily and Eddy decide to explore the town. As they're exploring, someone says, "Hey guys!" to them. They both turn around and notice a Snorlax standing right in front of them. Emily gasps and says to Eddy, "Look Eddy! It's a Snorlax!" and takes off her backpack to get a Poke Ball. She tries to throw the ball at the Snorlax but it just bounces right off of it. She goes to retrieve the ball and throw it again. Like before, the ball bounces off of the Snorlax.
  8.
  9. 4. The Snorlax says, "Um kid, you do know this is a suit, right?" and Emily gasps and says in amazement, "Wow! It can talk without even moving its mouth!" Emily keeps throwing the ball at the Snorlax until it takes off its head to show that it really is just a suit. As soon as Emily sees the Snorlax's real face, Emily stops throwing the ball and tosses it back into her bag.
  10.
  11. 5. The person in the Snorlax suit introduces themself as Earl and says that he normally wears a Gyarados suit but it got damaged a week prior and the Snorlax suit is a backup. He then asks where Emily and Eddy are going. Emily tells Earl that she and Eddy are heading to the Nidoran region to see her dad.
  12.
  13. 6. Earl says that he kind of knows what she is talking about and says that no one got to the region without collecting all of the Johto gym badges. He also says, "It could be rumor though but you should still do it as a precaution." Emily thinks to herself, "Is that what that guy meant by 'more challenging'?" She agrees and tries to dash over to the Mahogany Town gym. However, Earl stops her and says that the gym isn't safe, as the roof had been destroyed by a Dragonite's Hyper Beam that missed. He says that they should start their badge collecting quest in Ecruteak City, which is west of Mahogany.
  14.
  15. 7. Emily and Eddy waste no time and start travelling towards Ecruteak. The two pass a sign that says "Route 42" and halfway down the route, they stop and try to figure out which path to take. In front of them is a couple of narrow waterways broken up by a small piece of sandy land with a cave on it. To their right is a big moutian like structure with a large hole in the side if it. They decide to take the mountain route, only to encounter an Onix with half of its head fin missing a few feet later.
  16.
  17. 8. The two run away from the Onix and try to hide from it in the tall grass outside. While they catch their breath in the grass, Emily tries to come up with another plan to get to Ecruteak. She recalls seeing something on TV about how water wears down rocks and decides that the water ways might offer protection from the Onix.
  18.
  19. 9. The ground starts to rumble and Eddy and Emily sprint over to the water and dive in. Emily tells Eddy to jump on her back and she swims as fast as she can towards the other side of the water ways. As she's doing so the Onix jumps out of the water, but finds itself unable to keep up and by the time the two reach the sandy spot, Onix has struggled to keep its head above water for at least a few minutes. By the time the duo reaches the other side, the Onix drowns and sinks to the bottom. Emily tries to throw a Poke Ball at it but the ball ends up floating in the water.
  20.
  21. 10. Emily and Eddy sit down for a few moments and Emily asks Eddy if he is okay. However, he just stares at her without moving a muscle or making a sound.
  22.
  23. 11. In Eddy's head however, he has a flashback to a time where he was travelling through a cave with a girl named Andy who was in the cave looking for her two brothers, Ricky and Tom. As she and Eddy were in the cave, an Onix with a gash on the right side of its body burst out of the ground and let out an earth shakingly loud roar. The two screamed and tried to run but the Onix slithered faster than they could run and Andy was grabbed by the Onix. The Onix squeezed her body tightly before shoving her in its mouth and began chewing on her. The crunching of Andy's bones could be heard and she cried to Eddy to help her. He tried ramming into the Onix but it barely hurt it. When Andy was chewed up enough, the Onix swallowed her, leaving nothing behind but her baseball cap, which fell onto the ground when she was getting swallowed.
  24.
  25. Eddy sprinted over to the cap and grabbed it with his mouth. He tried his best to get away from the Onix but unfortunately, he was also caught by it. Once wrapped its body around Eddy and squeezed him, he bleated in pain and dropped the cap. As the Onix pulled Eddy towards its mouth, it stopped as it moved its head side to side and sniffed around. A couple of moments later, its swiftly turned its head to the right and fixed its gaze upon a tiny Sandshrew walking around in the distance. It quickly released Eddy from its grasp and dove headfirst into the ground and bore into it like it was nothing.
  26.
  27. Eddy staggered towards the cap and picked it up with its mouth. He limped around aimlessly, trying to find the exit but to no avail. Eventually, his legs gave out and he collapsed to the ground, gasping for air. As he was about to black out, Ricky and Tom came across him and planned on taking him to a Pokemon Center. Ricky volunteered to carry him and Tom used an Escape Rope to get the group out of the cave.
  28.
  29. 12. The episode cuts back to present day as Emily tries to snap Eddy out of his trance. However, he starts bleating as loud as he can while firing off a multitude of Thundershock attacks in rapid succession, with one almost hitting Emily. After this, Emily gets out an empty water bottle and fills it up at the waterway. She aims the bottle at Eddy and squeezes it as hard as she can. A stream of water hits Eddy, who takes at least a few seconds to calm down. When he does so, he pants slowly and starts to cry. Emily puts the bottle away and goes over to Eddy. She then hugs him and says, "It's okay. The rock snake can't hurt us now."
  30.
  31. 13. Once Eddy stops crying, the two head on their way to Ecruteak City. When they arrive in the city, they hear music coming from one of the little buildings. She and Eddy decide to go inside to see what's going on.
  32.
  33. 14. Once inside, the duo sees about five kimono clad woman dancing with their Pokemon on stage. Unfortunatly, they only get to see five seconds of it as they came in at the tail end of the performance. The audience claps and cheers, with some even throwing flowers on stage. A little while later, the audience leaves and the women step off of the stage.
  34.
  35. 15. Eddy runs up to the women, with Emily following behind. Eddy is then seen leaning his front legs on the women wearing the blue kimono and bleating happily. She giggles and notices that Eddy is wet and decides to use her kimono to dry him off. She then decides to pet him, which makes him feel content.
  36.
  37. 16. Emily joins up with Eddy and giggles while saying, "I see you found a new friend." The woman asks if Eddy is Emily's Pokemon and she says yes. She and another kimono clad woman gasp and the woman the blue kimono says, "I thought all trainers nowadays started with either a fire type like Cyndaquil, a water type like Totodile, or a grass type like Chikorita. You know, I'm starting to doubt the credibility of that 'Fun Facts with Professor Elm' show."
  38.
  39. 17. The woman in the blue kimono then goes onto say, "Speaking of Chikorita, they are just the cutest things. Every time I see one I just want to scoop it up in my arms and---" Before she could finish what she was saying, a woman in an orange kimono interrupted her and said, "Hey Kuni, I thought you hated Chikorita ever since one of them almost cut your hand off with Razor Leaf." Kuni then harshly nudges the woman in the orange kimono with her elbow and quietly growls, "Shut up, Miki."
  40.
  41. 18. Kuni then notices that Emily is soaking wet. Miki asks if Emily wants her Flareon named Felix to dry her off. Before Emily can answer, Kuni and the rest of the kimono clad women shout no in unison. Miki replies with, "Okay. Geez!" After that, Emily says, "Yeah, I'll just take a towel." Kuni says that she has something even better than a towel and takes Emily to a room in the back of the theatre.
  42.
  43. 19. The room turns out to be a sauna like area and Kuni decides to activate the heaters in the room. She then tells Emily to change out of her clothes and give them to her so she can out them through a ringer to dry them. Emily does so and she stays in the sauna for at least a few minutes while Eddy waits outside with Kuni.
  44.
  45. 20. After a few minutes have passed, she tells Kuni that she is done drying and wants her clothes back. Kuni refuses and says that her clothes are covered in stains. Instead, she throws a bag of clothes into the sauna and says that these clothes used to belong to her son before he outgrew them. She also goes on to say that she was going to donate the clothes to charity and figured she should have some new clothes.
  46.
  47. 21. Emily digs through the bag and finds a light green t-shirt with a Bulbasaur in the middle of it. Not only that but she also finds a pair of crisp denim shorts and decides to change into these clothes. She then exits the sauna and she notices that Kuni is holding a Poke Ball. Kuni says she found it in Emily's pants pocket and asks if it is hers to which she says yes.
  48.
  49. 22. Kuni hands the Poke Ball to Emily and wonders what's inside the ball. Emily thanks Kuni for her help and she, along with Eddy, start to head on their way out. Just as they were about to reach the door, Kuni stops them and asks if she would like to battle. Emily thinks about it and agrees, saying that she and Eddy need to train if they want to get the city's gym badge.
  50.
  51. 23. Miki overhears this and runs over to where Emily, Eddy, and Kuni are. She says that she should battle Emily, as she says that Kuni has been slacking off in her dance training and feels that she would lose rather easily. Kuni turns to Miki and sarcastically replies with, "Yes, because you never slack off in your dance training. Right Miki?"
  52.
  53. 24. Miki tries to come up with a retort but gives up and says, "You know what? Why don't we let Emily choose who she wants to battle?" Kuni agrees and gives Emily a choice between battling either her or Miki. As Emily thinks over her choices, Eddy dreamily stares at Kuni as hearts cover his eyes. Eddy then tugs on Emily's shorts and points to Kuni.
  54.
  55. 25. After thinking it over, Emily decides to battle Kuni and Eddy jumps for joy and bleats loudly. He then runs over to Kuni and tackles her. He then nuzzles her and she starts to giggle. Miki decides to watch the battle from the seats of the theatre.
  56.
  57. 26. Kuni tells Emily to follow her to the stage and Emily does so, with Eddy following her. Kuni, Emily, and Eddy get on stage and Eddy jumps in front of Emily. Kuni lifts the right flap of her kimono and pulls out a Poke Ball. She says, "You ready, sweetie?" and Emily says, "Mhm". Kuni then "Go, Vincent!" and throws the Poke Ball. A Vaporeon pops out of the ball and lands on all four legs.
  58.
  59. 27. At the sight of the Vaporeon, Emily's jaw drops and she gasps. She then says, "Woah! A Vaporeon." She giggles and adds, "My mom always said I was part Vaporeon!" Kuni laughs and says, "I guess that's why you decided to battle me, huh?"
  60.
  61. 28. Emily agrees and commands Eddy to use Thundershock. Kuni commands Vincent to dodge the attacks. However, Emily tells Eddy to keep using Thundershock until it hits. It eventually does so, which badly damages Vincent. Despite this however, Vaporeon gets up and Kuni commands it to use Dig. Eddy looks around the stage trying to find Vincent but before he can do so, Vincent shoots out of the ground and sends Eddy flying straight into the air, severely damaging him in the process. Fortunately, Eddy lands on all fours and bleats loudly. Emily opens up her bag and grabs a potion. She then runs over to Eddy and sprays the Potion all over his wound and whispers, "You're doing great out there, buddy!" While she is spraying the potion, Kuni tells Vincent to use Rain Dance.
  62.
  63. 29. Emily tells Eddy to use Thundershock again but before he can do so, Kuni tells Vincent to use Hyper Beam, which only takes a few seconds to charge up. As its charging up, Emily commands Eddy to dodge the attack and use Thundershock. When the beam is shot out from Vincent's mouth, Eddy barely avoids it and Vincent is seen panting. This gives Eddy and opportunity to use Thundershock and when the moves hits Vincent, it almost knocks him out.
  64.
  65. 30. Kuni sees that Vincent is nearly down for the count. However, she commands Vincent to use Surf anyway. Soon, Vincent's eyes glow a blue colour and he summons a huge wave behind him. He then dissolves in the water when it hits him. Eddy and Emily are shocked by the size of the wave. Their eyes grow wide and they start to scream as the wave charges towards them. Emily decides to jump off of the stage and tells Eddy to do the same.
  66.
  67. 31. The two leap off of the stage and into Miki's lap. When the wave is about to hit a wall, a stream of water shoots out from the back of the wave and lands on the other side of the stage, which turns into Vincent. Miki says, "Get back over there" and throws Emily and Eddy onto the stage one by one. Once on the stage, Kuni commands Vincent to use Dig but Emily tells Eddy to use Tackle before it can go underground. Eddy charges at Vincent at a breakneck speed and slams into him so hard, Vincent is sent flying back. He soon hits a wall and falls to the ground, unable to get up as he has fainted.
  68.
  69. 32. After Vincent faints, a high pitched dinging sound could be heard and small white sparks fly off of Eddy. Emily sees this and gasps, wondering what just happened to Eddy. Kuni calls back Vincent and Miki stands up and cheers. Emily calls back Eddy and pets him on his curly tuft of wool in the middle of his head. As she's doing so, she asks him why sparks flew out of him, to which he bleats.
  70.
  71. 33. Kuni walks up to Emily and congratulates her and Eddy on winning the battle. Eddy jumps up and kisses Kuni on the cheek, to which she and Miki gasp and giggle. Kuni then notices that Emily and Eddy are wet and tells them to go to the room in the back of the theatre. Once the two are inside, Emily takes off her clothes and Eddy faces the wall as she is doing so. Emily throws her clothes over and waits for Kuni to wring them out.
  72.
  73. 34. Kuni walks into the room and picks up the clothes. She starts wringing them out and Miki walks into the room. Kuni braces herself, fearing that Miki will either scold or make fun of her. Much to her surprise, Miki actually congratulates her on her performance in the battle. Kuni asks her if she is messing with her. Miki says no and adds that she did her best, which is all she expects from her. She then whispers into her ear about how clever the Rain Dance/Surf strategy was.
  74.
  75. 35. Kuni then says, "Well yeah but, I bet our son would be real dissapointed in me for losing." Miki hugs her and whispers, "C'mon Kuni, don't act like that. He'd be proud whether you won or lost!" Kuni blushes and replies, "Well, when you put that way..." She then hugs Miki tightly, much to her surprise.
  76.
  77. 36. Emily calls out to Kuni and says, "Hello! I need some clothes!" Kuni gasps and apologizes. She soon resumes wringing out the clothes. Once that's done, Kuni runs over to where Emily is and throws the clothes over the wall. Emily thanks her and quickly gets dressed.
  78.
  79. 37. Emily and Eddy rush out of the small room after remembering that they wanted to check out the Ecruteak gym. Emily explains this to Kuni and Miki and says goodbye to them. Eddy runs over to Kuni, who pets him one last time. After that, the two dash out of the theatre.
  80.
  81. 38. Back at the Lake of Rage, a HootHoot flies over to a group of bushes and lands on Jenny's head, startling her out of a deep slumber. She yelps and says, "How long I've been out?" She then looks around and notices that it's daytime. She yelps again and says, "Oh man! I gotta get going!" She gets on her motorbike and starts it up. She zooms out of the bushes and zips through the lake area.
  82.
  83. 39. She speeds through Mahogany Town and onto Route 42. She kept on going until she saw two small waterways up ahead. She stopped just inches away from the first waterway and turned off the bike. She got off it and tried to fold it up. It took her at least five minutes before giving up and unenthusiatically saying, "Oh, I forgot. It doesn't fold up like the kid's bikes do." She sighs and thinks up ways to overcome her problem without spending too much time trying to solve it.
  84.
  85. 40. She stares at the wooded area on her left and thinks she can leave it there. However, a thought about a flock of Pidgey coming together and lifting the bike and dropping it on an unsuspecting person's head occurs and she immediately turns her head towards Mt. Mortar. However, a thought about a group of Geodude crushing the bike into a fine dust occurs and she turns her head towards Mahogany Town. However, she imagined a conversation between her and a tall, bald man wearing a black polo shirt that went something like this:
  86.
  87. "Hi there. I'd like to sell my bike for 300,000 Poken." Jenny said. The man looked at her bike for a moment and said,
  88.
  89. "Best I can do is 50 Poken." Jenny growled and left the store with the bike.
  90.
  91. 41. After snapping out of that thought, she cried out, "Farewell, bike!" and kicked it into the waterway. She stood up straight and saluted as the bike sunk to the bottom and it eventually hit the lifeless Onix below.
  92.
  93. 42. The episode cuts back to Eddy and Emily walking out of the Pokemon Center. Emily expresses her excitement for the upcoming battle to Eddy. The two soon find their way to the gym and go inside. Once inside, they see that the gym is covered in thick fog. Emily and Eddy inhale the fog and cough. A figure soon emerges from the fog holding fog machines and yelling, "More fog! More fog!" When the figure is inches away from the duo, he stops dead in his tracks and slowly put the fog machines down.
  94.
  95. 43. Emily notices that the figure has shoulder length blond hair, light grey jeans and a long sleeved black shirt with two purple cuffs at the end of each sleeve. Not only that, but it was also wearing a purple scarf with dull orange flame like patterns at the ends of the scarf. They also have a purple headband running across their forehead and ivory beige skin.
  96.
  97. 44. The figure says, "Uh, hello there," and chuckles awkwardly. After that, they gasp and say, "Oh! Uh, hold on." They snap their fingers and the ceiling fans activate and defog the inside of the gym. Once the fog cleared, the figure snapped their fingers again and the ceiling fans stop running. The figure is more visible and Emily finds out the figure is male. The figure says, "Pretty cool, huh? I got the sensor installed last week!"
  98.
  99. 45. Emily and Eddy nod and the figure introduces himself as Morty and says that he is the leader of the gym. Emily gets excited and says, "Wow, really?!" Morty nods and says, "Mhm." Emily yells "Woo hoo!" and says, "Well, I hope you don't mind, but me and Eddy would love it if you battled us, right Eddy?" Eddy bleated happily and Morty giggled. He then sits down and pets both Emily and Eddy.
  100.
  101. 46. Morty smiles and stands back up. He stares at the duo for at least a couple of seconds before saying, "Here, come with me." Morty starts walking over to the other side of the room with Emily and Eddy following behind. As they're walking Morty strikes up a conversation with Emily.
  102.
  103. 47. The conversation went like this:
  104.
  105. "So what's your name, kid?" Morty asked.
  106.
  107. "Emily, sir!" said Emily.
  108.
  109. "Emily. Hmm. Nice name. So do you have any badges, Emily?" Morty replied.
  110.
  111. "No. Sorry Morty." Emily said somberly.
  112.
  113. "That's okay." Morty chuckled. Emily and Morty soon arrived at a thin rectangular mark on the wall. On the right side of the mark was a keypad with nine purple buttons. Morty pressed four of the buttons and after he did so, the mark on the wall automatically slid forward like a cash register drawer. On the top part of the mark were six Poke Balls neatly lined up and snuggly nested into shallow holes. Morty grabbed two of the balls on the left side of the mark and pushed the mark back into the wall.
  114.
  115. "These should be fine. So, you ready Emily?" said Morty.
  116.
  117. "Let's do this!" Emily shouted as she jumped into the air.
  118.
  119. 48. Morty puts the Poke Balls in his pockets and claps his hands. All of a sudden, the middle of the gym floor opened up and a large rectangular dirt covered field slowly rose up from the ground. Once the field was in full view, it stopped rising and the floor beneath it had closed up. Morty then shouts, "Lights!" and all of the lights shut off. Then, neon pink lights zipped down all four corners of the gym and filled in the perimeter of the field as well as the Poke Ball shaped marking in the middle. After that, the field glowed intensely and Morty snapped his fingers. Soon, the fog machines activated and large clouds of fog covered the entire floor and barely dulled the glow of the field.
  120.
  121. 49. Morty tells Emily to go to one side of the battlefield while he goes to the other side. After they do this, Morty says to Emily, "You ever been on TV, Emily?" Emily says no and Morty says, "Well, you're about to be. Though, you'll only be seen on local channels like J.B.S."
  122.
  123. 50. Just as they were about to start their battle, the referee comes in and looks at Emily. He gets on his knees and says, "Hey, sweetie! Ready for your gym battle?" Emily happily shouts "Yeah!" The referee then says, "Hmm. You look a bit young. Do you have a license?" Emily gasps and panics. She then says, "You need a license for this?" The referee nods his head and says, "Mhm." He then sighs and says, "Well, sorry to say this kid, but unless we want to get our gym shut down by the Pokemon Inspection Agency, we can't accept your challenge without a license."
  124.
  125. 51. The referee also says that if Emily is caught challenging a gym without a license, the inspectors can take away their Pokemon and give them to trainers with licenses who are willing to take care of them. Emily hugs and Eddy and says that, "They can really do that?" The referee nods and tears start to roll down Emily's face. She turns her head towards Morty and says, "Morty!"
  126.
  127. 52. Morty sighs and somberly says, "Sorry kid. I don't make the rules. But when you get older and have your license, I'll be more than happy to battle you!" Emily sighs and slowly rises to her feet. She turns away from Morty and slowly walks towards the entrance, with Eddy doing the same. As Emily gets closer to the entrance, she gradually becomes more angry as the memories of her father flood her mind. When she is just inches away from the entrance, she turns away and runs full speed towards Morty.
  128.
  129. 53. When she is close to Morty she starts going on a rant that went something like this:
  130.
  131. "Hey bub! Do you think I came here for fun? No! In fact, ever since I left home, I've cracked my head on the ground, been attacked by an evil Houndour, chased and nearly eaten by a giant rock snake! But I went through all that because... I want to get to the Nidoran region to see my dad and if I gotta get all the Johto badges to get there, including yours, then by the power of Arceus, I'm going to do it!" Emily ranted as tears continued to roll down her face.
  132.
  133. "But we can't accep---" the referee called out. Before he could finish what he was saying, Morty quickly turned his head towards him and glared at him.
  134.
  135. "Excuse me? Are you the leader of this gym? No? Then shut up!" Morty said sternly. The referee fell silent and stood there, subtly shaking and starting at Morty and Emily. Morty got down on one knee and put his hand on Emily's right shoulder.
  136.
  137. "Look Emily, I know I shouldn't accept your challenge and all but, It seems clear to me that you really love your dad. So, I'm gonna let you battle me. But understand that I'm putting a lot on the line by doing this." Morty said in a calm, quiet voice. Emily jumped into the air and shouted, "Woo hoo!" at the top of her lungs. She then squeezed Morty's leg and said, "Thank you, Morty!"
  138.
  139. 54. Morty smiled and Emily let go of his leg. She then walked to one side of the field and stood there.
  140.
  141. "Ref, you know what to do." said Morty. The referee sighed and pulled a white remote control out of his pocket and aimed it at the wall in front of him. He hit a button on the top right of the remote and a monitor the size of a movie theatre screen turned on. He flipped through the channels until he landed on the "A/V" channel. This channel had a light green background and displayed various types of information such as the photos of the trainers who were participating in the battle, the number of Pokemon they had (which were represented by small Poke Balls on the bottom of the trainer's photos), and a bunch of other text in the middle of the screen.
  142.
  143. 55. The referee stepped onto a small wooden box and pulled a red flag and a green flag from his left pocket. He quickly lifted the flags up to his head and cleared his throat. "Alright. This is going to be a single battle between the challenger Emily and the gym leader Morty. Before we begin, I'd like to say a couple of things. One, once a Pokemon has fainted, the trainer cannot revive it for the duration of the battle. Two, expect for revival items, a trainer may only use healing items twice for the entire battle. So use them wisely! Now with out of the way, Emily, are you ready?" said the referee.
  144.
  145. "Yeah!" shouted Emily. The referee then turned his head towards Morty.
  146.
  147. "Morty, are you ready?" the referee asked.
  148.
  149. "Yup!" Morty replied.
  150.
  151. "Then let the battle begin!" the referee yelled as he forcefully waved the flags towards the ground.
  152.
  153. 56. Emily says, "Ready, Eddy?" to which Eddy tightens up his body and bleats loudly. He then jumps in front of Emily and onto the battlefield. Morty rubs his chin for a bit and says, "hmm..." He then grabs a Poke Ball from his left pocket and yells, "Go, Gastly!" and throws the ball to which it freezes in the air and opens up. A red jagged beam emerges from it and a few seconds later, a black, spherical Pokémon surrounded by a purple haze with a wide, pink mouth and two visible fangs, emerges from the ball. Its eyes lock onto Eddy and it emits a loud, screeching noise.
  154.
  155. 57. The monitor then shows a screen with Eddy's health bar on the top right and Gastly's health bar on the bottom left with the letters "VS." in the middle of the screen.
  156.
  157. 58. Emily tells Eddy to use Thundershock. However, Morty tells Gastly to dodge it and use Sludge Bomb. Gastly does so but Emily tells Eddy avoids the attack. He does so and he runs towards Gastly. The sludge explodes upon making contact with the ground and due to the amount of explosions that occurred, Emily goes deaf and she is unable to hear what Morty is saying. Eddy then uses Thundershock on Gastly and does enough damage to take away more than a third of Gastly's health.
  158.
  159. 59. Emily cheers for Eddy and he runs back to Emily. As he does so, Morty tells Gastly to use Night Shade. Emily tells Eddy to dodge it but the move hits him before he can get out of the way. The move does enough damage to take away half of Eddy's health.
  160.
  161. 60. Emily tells Eddy to use Thundershock again. Before he can execture the move however, Morty says, "Gastly, use Curse! Wait no! Uuugh!" Just then, a puff of purple smoke appears and a giant grey nail appears over Gastly. The nail slowly pierces Gastly's body and as it does so, it screams at the top of its lungs. Emily and Eddy stand there, horrified by what they see. When the nail completely goes through Gastly, its health is reduced to zero and it falls to the ground. The referee says, "Gastly is unable to battle! Emily wins the round!"
  162.
  163. 61. Morty sighs and calls back Gastly. After he does so, small skulls with a purple aura around them fly out of Eddy's wool which makes him bleat loudly in pain. Not only that but it drains about a quarter of his health. Emily is shocked to see this and uses a potion on him, which restores all of Eddy's health.
  164.
  165. 62. Morty pulls a Poke Ball from his right pocket and says, "Go, Misdreavus!" and throws the ball to which it freezes in the air and opens up. A red jagged beam emerges from it and a few seconds later, a dark bluish-green, ghost-like Pokémon with red and yellow eyes and a lower half that resembles a ruffled dress emerges from the ball. As soon as it does so, more skulls fly out of Eddy's wool and he bleats loudly as he flinches and his health is drained by a quarter once again.
  166.
  167. 63. Emily is worried about the skulls, but tells Eddy to use Thundershock anyway and yellow sparks appeared around Eddy's ears. Just then, Morty tells Misdreavus to use Shadow Ball. Both Pokemon charge up attacks and just when Misdreavus is about to fire its attack, Eddy uses Thundershock on it, which takes away less than a third of Misdreavus' health.
  168.
  169. 64. Despite this, Misdreavus takes the hit well. After this, Morty asks, "Is that the only move Eddy knows?" Emily says that he also knows Tackle and Growl, but doesn't want to use them in fear that they won't do anything. Morty smiles and says, "Hmm. Smart move." After this, skulls fly out of Eddy's wool again and he bleats in pain as another quarter of his health is taken away. Emily gasps and tells Eddy to use Thundershock. Morty tells Misdreavus to dodge it and use Shadow Ball. Eddy's attack misses and Misdreavus uses Shadow Ball, which Eddy tried and failed to avoid. His health is drained by at least a third, which puts his health in the red zone.
  170.
  171. 65. Eddy is in a lot of pain and seems like he's about to cry. Emily tells Eddy to use Thundershock and return to her soon after. He does so which Misdreavus tries to avoid, but doesn't dodge fast enough, but he staggers towards Emily. Once he is inches away from Emily, she opens up her backpack and pulls out a potion. The referee turns to her and says, "This is the last time you're going to be able to heal your Pokemon. Are you sure you want to do it?" Emily nods and uses the potion on Eddy, which heals about 90% of his health.
  172.
  173. 66. Eddy jumps back onto the battlefield. Emily tells him to use Thundershock while Morty tells Misdreavus to use Shadow Ball. Eddy's attack launches first which hits Misdreavus. However, the Shadow Ball hits him as he's about to finish the attack. The ball takes away more than half of Eddy's health. After that, more skulls fly out of his wool, which drains a quarter of his health and is now in the red zone.
  174.
  175. 67. Emily starts to panic but tells Eddy to use Thundershock. Immediately after, Morty tells Misdreavus to use Psybeam. The moves fire at the same time. However, the Psybeam hits Eddy hard, which causes him to faint. The referee says, "Eddy is unable to battle! Morty wins the round!" Emily's heart sinks and slowly walks over to where Eddy is and picks him up, carrying him over her head.
  176.
  177. 68. Emily lays him down on her side of the battlefield and steps back a few inches. She stands there and thinks about her next move. Morty calls out to her and says, "You got any more Pokemon, Em?" Emily stands there for a few seconds before having an "A-Ha!" moment. She says yes and fishes through her pocket. She finds a Poke Ball and takes it out. As she is about to throw it, she freezes. Morty is mystified by this and gazes at her intently. Suddenly, a somewhat blurry thought plays in his head.
  178.
  179. 69. In this thought, Emily is seen throwing the ball and releasing a Houndour. The Houndour turns around, stares at her with its orange, pupil-less eyes, and growls. Emily screams and tries to run. However, the Houndour uses Headbutt to knock her to the ground and bites her several times, including once on her neck. Morty calls out to Emily and says, "Emily, I know you're scared of what's inside that ball. But you have to throw it."
  180.
  181. 70. Emily says, "I don't think that's a good id--- Hey! How do you know that?" Morty replies with, "If you throw that ball, I'll tell you all about it." Emily still refuses to throw the ball. After standing there for a few more seconds without making a move, Morty sighs and says, "Listen, if you don't throw that ball within ten seconds, I'm going to have to disqualify you." Morty starts counting down and as he does so he heals his Misdreavus. Emily eventually agrees and throws the ball.
  182.
  183. 71. The Houndour emerges from the ball and howls, resulting in its body turning red with white arrows travelling up across its body. Emily gasps and her body begins to shake. The Houndour turns towards her and barks, which causes her to panic even more. The Houndour turns its head slightly and sits down for a moment. It notices the medical tape on Emily's arm and walks over to it. It sniffs it for as bit and Emily starts panting. All of a sudden, it locks its fangs over the taped area and Emily screams as she tries to curl up into a ball. The Houndour rips off the tape and licks the wound. Tears roll down Emily's face and she slowly lifts her head up to see the Houndour licking the wound.
  184.
  185. 72. Emily breathes a sigh of relief and sheepishly chuckles. She then says, "Okay! Okay! That's enough. Uh, you can go back to the battlefield now." The Houndour does so and as soon as its on the field, Morty asks if she's ready to battle again. Emily says yes in a rather shaky voice and the Houndour barks happily. Houndour, along with its life bar, are put on the screen.
  186.
  187. 73. Emily sighs and braces herself. She tells Houndour to use Bite and greatly flinches, fearing that the Houndour might bit her. However, it runs straight towards Misdreavus instead. As it does this, Morty tells Misdreavus to use Confuse Ray. The ray is fired in multiple directions and Houndour gets hit. Emily gasps and sees that instead of completing the attack, it bashes its head on the ground three times, taking away about one eighth of its health away.
  188.
  189. 74. Emily gasps and yells, "No!" Afterwards, Morty tells Misdreavus to use Calm Mind and Emily immediately yells and stutters, "C'mon buddy! You can do it! Use Bite now!" Houndour shakes its head and dashes towards Misdreavus and jumps up to it. The Houndour opens up mouth and its fangs start to glow. It then chomps down on Misdreavus, which causes it to scream. Houndour shakes it head from side to side with Misdreavus trapped in its jaws. It releases Misdreavus from its jaws and flings it towards the referee, which results in Misdreavus crashing into the wall. Emilys jaw drops for a secomd before she smiles and cheers. About 99% of Misdreavus' health is taken away and it's now in the red zone.
  190.
  191. 75. The only reason Misdreavus didn't faint is because it used its Focus Sash, which disappears afterwards. Emily is shocked by this and asks Morty where he got the item from. He says to her, "Well, let's just say I got it for Christmas." He then tells Misdreavus to use Shadow Ball. As its charging up, Houndour tries to bite it again, but gets hit by the attack. Luckily, Houndour endures the attack and its health gets drained by one fifth.
  192.
  193. 76. Houndour barks and growls. Morty tells Misdreavus to use Confuse Ray. Before it can do so, Emily tells Houndour to use Bite and it does so. It slams Misdreavus to the ground and clamps its jaws onto one of its locks of hair and rips it off. Once it does so, it jumps off of the Pokemon, which results in Misdreavus being down for the count. The referee says, "Misdreavus is unable to battle! Emily wins the battle!"
  194.
  195. 77. Emily jumps up and down and yells, "We won! We won! Woo hoo!" Houndour turns around and runs towards Emily, barking happily all the way. It knocks her over and licks her face, which makes Emily laugh. A few moments later, Houndour jumps off of her and sits down. Emily slowly leans towards it and hugs it. She then says, "Thanks buddy. I guess you aren't so bad after all!"
  196.
  197. 78. Morty calls back Misdreavus and walks towards Emily. He gets on one knee and chuckles, "Well, I gotta say. I'm quite impressed. You... actually beat me fair and square." Emily continues to hug Houndour and Morty takes notice. He then says, "I guess throwing that ball was a good idea after all!" Emily nods and laughs.
  198.
  199. 79. Morty then says, "Well, I can't give you a focus sash. But, here's what I can give you." He then reaches into one of his pockets and grabs a purple metal pin that's nearly round and resembles a wispy ghost. Emily stops hugging Houndour and stands up. He gives it to Emily and says, "That right there is the Fog Badge. Not only is it your first badge, but it also allows you to use Surf outside of battle. Pretty cool, huh?"
  200.
  201. 80. Emily says yes but asks, "Um, where I'm supposed to put this?" Morty says that it goes in a badge case but Emily says she doesn't have one. Morty replies, "I see. You know, come to think of it, you're not even wearing a belt. Tell you what. After you leave, go to the Pokemart and talk to Murph. He's pretty good about hooking up new trainers with those sorts of things."
  202.
  203. 81. Morty then adds, "Oh I almost forgot! You wanted to know how I knew about your fear of what was in the ball, right?" Emily says yes and the episode cuts to the exterior of the gym and the sun is beginning to set. It cuts back to the inside of the gym, only this time Emily says, "Wow, really?" Morty then replies, "Well, it only works when I really concentrate and even then it still seems kind of blurry."
  204.
  205. 82. Emily thanks Morty for his time and for helping her concur her fear of the Houndour. Morty says, "Really?" to which Emily says, "Yeah. In fact, I'm going to give it a name. How about... Gnasher?" Houndour responds well to the name and Emily takes out Gnasher's Poke Ball. She then puts Gnasher back into the ball and walks towards Eddy. When she goes to pick him up, Morty pulls out a purple CD nested in a transparent jewel case that has white duck tape on the top that reads "TM30 Shadow Ball" and puts it in her bag without her noticing. He also takes out a piece of paper and writes something on it. He then sticks it into her pocket and walks away.
  206.
  207. 83. Emily turns around and says goodbye to Morty. He follows suit and she walks towards the entrance with Eddy laying in her arms.
