  1. (07:03:12 AM) Permafry_42: speaking of which, I'll be starting the stream in 5
  2. (07:03:13 AM) Permafry_42: 4
  3. (07:03:13 AM) Permafry_42: 3
  4. (07:03:15 AM) Permafry_42: 2
  5. (07:03:17 AM) Permafry_42: 1
  6. (07:04:16 AM) Cheeseness: Ha ha, best "Enjoy" ever
  7. (07:04:37 AM) dfMark left the room (quit: Quit: http://www.mibbit.com ajax IRC Client).
  8. (07:04:46 AM) Cheeseness: Syd: Have you had a chance to play this much yet?
  9. (07:04:48 AM) Fhqwhcow left the room (quit: Quit: http://www.mibbit.com ajax IRC Client).
  10. (07:05:19 AM) dfMark [a689d1a1@hide-BF4D4B18.mibbit.com] entered the room.
  11. (07:05:41 AM) Syd: I've been distracted by other games. I fully intend to come back to it though
  12. (07:06:10 AM) Cheeseness: Yay, music
  13. (07:06:31 AM) DF_Gabe: did he just put ice in his pocket?
  14. (07:06:38 AM) Cheeseness: Tongs
  15. (07:06:39 AM) medacris: Gosh, this game is so delightful.
  16. (07:06:49 AM) DF_Gabe: i thought he said "ice and tongs"
  17. (07:06:56 AM) medacris: I saw this guy at school buy ice in a cup, and walk down the hall eating it.
  18. (07:07:03 AM) DF_Gabe: i'll just keep imagining him with ice in his pocket
  19. (07:07:18 AM) Cheeseness: Yeah, I thought the same too :D
  20. (07:07:30 AM) medacris: "Constable, why are you dripping?"
  21. (07:07:35 AM) Cheeseness: You have to run to where you use the ice quickly so it doesn't melt
  22. (07:07:42 AM) Permafry_42: forgive me if i forget anything
  23. (07:07:48 AM) DF_Gabe: someone spilled kool-aid on the bed
  24. (07:07:52 AM) ***ion watches the slideshow
  25. (07:08:06 AM) Cheeseness: Still running slow for you ion? :(
  26. (07:08:19 AM) ion: yeah
  27. (07:08:45 AM) Syd: Perma, I don't want to you stop this stream to mess with OBS settings, but for Costume Quest, it might be best to drop the output down to 720p to help those with lower bandwidth.
  28. (07:08:59 AM) Permafry_42: ok sounds good
  29. (07:09:03 AM) medacris: Nobody was murdered, it's just hard to drink Kool-Aid on a train.
  30. (07:09:10 AM) Cheeseness: Yeah, that' d probably be a good idea for future sessions
  31. (07:09:16 AM) Cheeseness: We're on a boat now, medacris :D
  32. (07:09:35 AM) ion: I’m not sure that will help, Twitch has been slow for me for a long time even with lower-quality streams.
  33. (07:09:43 AM) ion: It used to work just fine.
  34. (07:09:48 AM) medacris: Yeah, CQ doesn't respond well to lag, I've found
  35. (07:10:02 AM) medacris: Beautiful.
  36. (07:10:16 AM) dfMark left the room (quit: Quit: http://www.mibbit.com ajax IRC Client).
  37. (07:10:49 AM) DF_Gabe: is this a translation from another language?
  38. (07:11:01 AM) Syd: The developers are German, I believe
  39. (07:11:07 AM) SirSlade: Yeah, the game was natively made in German
  40. (07:11:21 AM) ion: Spoiler alert: YOU were the Raven all along.
  41. (07:11:25 AM) Cheeseness: Yeah
  42. (07:11:33 AM) dfMark [a689d1a1@hide-50D287EE.mibbit.com] entered the room.
  43. (07:11:42 AM) Syd: That kool-aid stain was The Raven this whole time
  44. (07:11:51 AM) SirSlade: Multiple Personalities, oh no!
  45. (07:12:28 AM) DF_Gabe: that's a ridic amount of voice acting
  46. (07:12:37 AM) medacris: Ah, thanks for the correction, Cheese
  47. (07:12:52 AM) medacris: @DF_Gabe: It's very well done for a dub
  48. (07:13:37 AM) SirSlade: They did do very well with the English voice acting. Marco, who was here last week, did the directing and a lot of translation for it, iirc.
  49. (07:13:42 AM) flesk [flesk@hide-1E215ADA.getinternet.no] entered the room.
  50. (07:13:57 AM) flesk: Hi there.
  51. (07:13:58 AM) Cheeseness: Yeah, he did
  52. (07:13:59 AM) Syd: Hey flesk
  53. (07:14:00 AM) Cheeseness: Hey flesk
  54. (07:15:04 AM) dfMark: Hey guys
  55. (07:15:20 AM) Permafry_42: hey mark!
  56. (07:15:20 AM) DF_Gabe: this dude is pretty loquacious. he's gonna need a glass of water soon.
  57. (07:15:44 AM) DF_Gabe: hey, mark. did you get the weekend wrong too?
  58. (07:15:46 AM) medacris: Hi Flesk!
  59. (07:15:51 AM) Cheeseness: Some exciting footsliding there :D
  60. (07:15:56 AM) SirSlade: I was wondering about that on the first stream. He does talk to himself a lot.
  61. (07:15:59 AM) flesk: Hi meda.
  62. (07:16:05 AM) dfMark: Maybe
  63. (07:16:06 AM) flesk: Is this episode 3?
  64. (07:16:09 AM) Permafry_42: pretty sure that's everything in the room
  65. (07:16:14 AM) Permafry_42: episode 1 part 3
  66. (07:16:19 AM) flesk: I don't remember if I was around last week.
  67. (07:16:23 AM) Cheeseness: flexk: The last part of episode 1
  68. (07:16:28 AM) flesk: Ah, right.
  69. (07:16:31 AM) dfMark: Ha ha, not today eh?
  70. (07:16:42 AM) DF_Gabe: next week
  71. (07:16:45 AM) flesk: So it's only the second or third session with The Raven?
  72. (07:16:55 AM) Syd: Third
  73. (07:16:57 AM) medacris: Inspector Legrand IS Exposition Man. Coming 2013.
  74. (07:16:59 AM) Permafry_42: love this entire conversation
  75. (07:17:06 AM) Cheeseness: Third. That'll cover the episode and we'll come back to it another time
  76. (07:17:39 AM) SirSlade: Ahh, the old mystery troupe: The Butler Did it!
  77. (07:17:41 AM) DF_Gabe: interesting camera choice
  78. (07:18:34 AM) dfMark: K see ya next week!
  79. (07:18:41 AM) dfMark left the room (quit: Quit: http://www.mibbit.com ajax IRC Client).
  80. (07:19:01 AM) Cheeseness: DF_Gabe: There are some awkward angles, but on the whole, the game feels very solidly shot
  81. (07:19:03 AM) flesk: Haven't noticed before, but the hair on the characters look a bit strange.
  82. (07:19:42 AM) Permafry_42: hey sorry for any stream issues
  83. (07:19:44 AM) flesk: Is the stream lagging or is that just on my end?
  84. (07:19:59 AM) Permafry_42: it should be fixed now
  85. (07:20:06 AM) DF_Gabe: yeah, looks like pretty high production values
  86. (07:20:21 AM) ion: flesk: I really wish they’d apply the ambient occlusion they’re using elsewhere to the characters. I find it distracting that the hair doesn’t cast a shadow to the skin and the insides of their mouths are too illuminated.
  87. (07:20:42 AM) Cheeseness: The animations are probably the only place that it falls down, I think (they're not horrible, but they don't feel quite as polished as the other aspects of the game)
  88. (07:21:09 AM) SirSlade left the room (quit: Quit: http://www.mibbit.com ajax IRC Client).
  89. (07:21:20 AM) SirSlade [4659b19d@hide-50D287EE.mibbit.com] entered the room.
  90. (07:22:26 AM) DF_Gabe: i'm gonna have to bail. hopefully i can join next week! if not, i'll be in one of the later ones. i recommend using the tongs on the butler!
  91. (07:22:40 AM) Permafry_42: k cya!
  92. (07:22:47 AM) DF_Gabe left the room.
  93. (07:22:49 AM) Cheeseness: Alrighty, thanks DF_G :D
  94. (07:22:56 AM) flesk: ion: Yeah, that that would add to the look of the characters.
  95. (07:23:06 AM) Cheeseness: Gah, my computer is sad >_<
  96. (07:23:57 AM) flesk: Anything you can do to cheer it up?
  97. (07:24:02 AM) ion: Spoiler alert: GLaDOS is the Raven.
  98. (07:24:18 AM) Syd: I suspected that plant in the corner
  99. (07:24:24 AM) Permafry_42: Zuko is the Raven
  100. (07:24:34 AM) Permafry_42: already got the stones
  101. (07:25:18 AM) medacris: Mental image of trying to handcuff a plant.
  102. (07:25:45 AM) Cheeseness: :D
  103. (07:25:50 AM) Permafry_42: XD
  104. (07:25:56 AM) flesk: The characters look pretty good at a distance though. Maybe it's that they've got the rough movements of them down pretty good.
  105. (07:25:59 AM) Syd: Need a lot of handcuffs to make sure that all the branches were properly restrained
  106. (07:26:21 AM) flesk: I've seen games with a lot less realistic looking walk cycles and the like.
  107. (07:26:28 AM) flesk: The Runaway series come to mind.
  108. (07:26:33 AM) medacris: Well, if this game does well, they can up the budget and do better animation.
  109. (07:27:33 AM) flesk: That would be nice. Probably won't benefit this game though.
  110. (07:27:33 AM) ion: When this angle happened, i was like “seriously?” :-P
  111. (07:28:28 AM) flesk: There has been some complaints on the Steam forums about them not doing things to fix issues with the BoUT games. It's understandable with their tight budgets though.
  112. (07:29:05 AM) Syd: I wonder if this angle was on purpose or not
  113. (07:29:20 AM) flesk: ion: Looks kind of like something you'd see in a Larry game if it was to cover up a woman sunbathing in the nude.
  114. (07:29:35 AM) SirSlade left the room (quit: Quit: http://www.mibbit.com ajax IRC Client).
  115. (07:29:49 AM) flesk: I don't remember if there's anything like that in Love for Sail. Could be though.
  116. (07:30:01 AM) SirSlade [4659b19d@hide-50D287EE.mibbit.com] entered the room.
  117. (07:30:15 AM) flesk: There's a nudist deck on the ship if I remember correctly.
  118. (07:30:20 AM) SirSlade: This browser sure doesn't like running, apparently.
  119. (07:30:28 AM) Cheeseness: It seems like they've had a couple of projects on the go and have been running a tight ship
  120. (07:32:06 AM) ion: Did they record an orchestra specifically for this game?
  121. (07:32:41 AM) Cheeseness: There's a photo in the special features that seems to indicate live recording
  122. (07:32:48 AM) Cheeseness: The music is really good
  123. (07:33:20 AM) ion: yeah
  124. (07:33:20 AM) Permafry_42: agreed. I'm almost considering buying the special edition just to get the soundtrack
  125. (07:33:29 AM) ion: I skimmed through the special features but i must have missed that photo.
  126. (07:33:35 AM) Permafry_42: unless the copy i have is the special edition
  127. (07:34:53 AM) Cheeseness: OK, her lip synch animations in particular creep me out
  128. (07:35:05 AM) Permafry_42: I'm a bit distracted from the mouthes as well
  129. (07:36:20 AM) medacris: Yeah. A lot of games have very stiff standing animations.
  130. (07:36:47 AM) Permafry_42: i like the backstory they give her
  131. (07:37:21 AM) medacris: Awww!
  132. (07:40:44 AM) Permafry_42: i apollogize in advance for not being good at this minigame coming up
  133. (07:41:43 AM) ion: Oh, this isn’t a speedrun world record attempt?
  134. (07:41:50 AM) flesk: I love minigames in games. At least when they feel natural to the story.
  135. (07:42:08 AM) Cheeseness: This minigame is interesting
  136. (07:42:16 AM) Permafry_42: the game is fine; I'm just kinda bad at these types of minigames
  137. (07:42:16 AM) Cheeseness: Don't worry, Permafry_42 ^_^
  138. (07:42:29 AM) Syd: Heh, whenever I stream, if I encounter a minigame, it's like whatever skill I once had with it is thrown out the window and I fail miserably.
  139. (07:42:30 AM) Cheeseness: I sort of wish there were a few of these sorts of things
  140. (07:43:00 AM) Syd: Though I did okay with the "Shoot the Rat" minigame in Sam & Max S01E03
  141. (07:43:06 AM) SirSlade: Performance anxiety, Syd? Or maybe Murphy's Law
  142. (07:43:13 AM) Syd: A little of both, I think
  143. (07:43:20 AM) Cheeseness: heh
  144. (07:43:23 AM) SirSlade: Shoot the Rat was fun though
  145. (07:43:43 AM) SirSlade: I do play a lot of shooters, however. The Mafia Funland was the best though
  146. (07:44:21 AM) flesk: I struggled so hard with the 5 in a row minigame in Machinarium. :S
  147. (07:44:57 AM) Cheeseness: Yeah, Machinarium was fund to stream
  148. (07:45:20 AM) flesk: You streamed that one yourself?
  149. (07:45:30 AM) flesk: I don't think I was around for that one.
  150. (07:45:47 AM) Cheeseness: Yeah, I did
  151. (07:46:01 AM) flesk: This minigame looks very good as far as minigames in adventure games go.
  152. (07:46:07 AM) Cheeseness: Are we red or blue?
  153. (07:46:17 AM) Syd: Looks like the player is blue
  154. (07:46:20 AM) flesk: Blue I think.
  155. (07:47:00 AM) Cheeseness: Ah yes
  156. (07:47:57 AM) Syd: That was a close one
  157. (07:48:26 AM) flesk: Good shot.
  158. (07:49:23 AM) Syd: I'd probably constantly try to knock the kid's discs out of the good spots
  159. (07:49:45 AM) Permafry_42: YAY!
  160. (07:49:59 AM) Cheeseness: Woo
  161. (07:50:40 AM) flesk: Well played.
  162. (07:50:44 AM) Permafry_42: yeah i have to admit its well programed
  163. (07:51:35 AM) Syd: Some of the best minigames in an adventure game are probably in Sam & Max Hit the Road
  164. (07:51:48 AM) Syd: I liked the Battleship one
  165. (07:51:59 AM) Cheeseness: I love the S&M minigames
  166. (07:52:02 AM) SirSlade: To my shame, I still haven't played Hit the Road.
  167. (07:52:12 AM) Cheeseness: It's great :D
  168. (07:52:21 AM) salty_horse left the room (quit: Quit: Leaving).
  169. (07:52:30 AM) Permafry_42: sadly I must admit the same; It's on my loooooong list of games to play though
  170. (07:52:48 AM) Syd: Hit the Road is great. Probably on the harder end of the LucasArts adventures, but that might partially be because of the cartoony logic the puzzles work off of
  171. (07:52:59 AM) Cheeseness: Hit the Road is worth advancing up any list :D
  172. (07:53:15 AM) Permafry_42: we should do a stream for it if we haven't already
  173. (07:53:25 AM) Syd: We did. I streamed it
  174. (07:53:29 AM) Syd: It was quite a while back, though
  175. (07:53:32 AM) Permafry_42: ah k nm then
  176. (07:53:38 AM) Syd: I think Cheeseness was moving at the time, so he wasn't able to join.
  177. (07:53:57 AM) Syd: Didn't have much of a turnout. I actually wouldn't mind revisiting it someday
  178. (07:54:02 AM) flesk: Yeah, I remember struggling so hard to get to the restaurant on the top of the ball of twine.
  179. (07:54:08 AM) Cheeseness: Yeah, that would have been around the time I was moving, I think
  180. (07:56:33 AM) Syd: He's a fast eater
  181. (07:56:38 AM) Permafry_42: i love this puzzle
  182. (07:56:59 AM) Permafry_42: besides finding the stones
  183. (07:57:01 AM) Cheeseness: I found this sequence to be the most contrived of Zellner's stuff
  184. (08:00:34 AM) ion: <Cheeseness> I love the S&M minigames
  185. (08:00:50 AM) Peder left the room (quit: Client exited).
  186. (08:01:04 AM) Permafry_42: this shot was a pixel hunt for me
  187. (08:01:06 AM) Cheeseness: That sounds worse than it is
  188. (08:02:49 AM) Permafry_42: another strange angle imo
  189. (08:03:15 AM) ion: This cutscene had a video glitch for me.
  190. (08:03:31 AM) ion: And others like that with the close camera position.
  191. (08:03:42 AM) Cheeseness: ion: Are you on Linux?
  192. (08:03:43 AM) Cheeseness: I had the same
  193. (08:03:45 AM) ion: yeah
  194. (08:03:49 AM) Cheeseness: I thought it was shadowed scenes
  195. (08:07:43 AM) SirSlade: Blah, had to work. But where did you guys get a copy of S&M Hit and Run?
  196. (08:08:23 AM) Syd: Hit the Road isn't too expensive on Amazon
  197. (08:08:53 AM) Permafry_42: i found mine at at thrift store
  198. (08:09:01 AM) Cheeseness: I got mine in the first LucasArts Archive set, I think
  199. (08:09:18 AM) Cheeseness: The forensics kit stuff is interesting
  200. (08:09:26 AM) Syd: I'm jealous of the people that have lucked out and found great classic adventure games at thrift shops
  201. (08:09:30 AM) Cheeseness: I sort of wish that that sequence of the game were a bit more expanded upon
  202. (08:09:40 AM) Permafry_42: i also found zork too
  203. (08:09:51 AM) SirSlade: Cool. Do you all just virtualize to run it? It is a DOS game, right?
  204. (08:10:01 AM) Syd: ScummVM
  205. (08:10:13 AM) Cheeseness: Yeah, ScummVM
  206. (08:10:36 AM) Syd: Extract the game's data off of the disc to a folder, point ScummVM to that folder, and you're good to go.
  207. (08:11:14 AM) Cheeseness: Or run it off the disc if you're feeling silly
  208. (08:11:27 AM) Cheeseness: This lock picking puzzle was kinda neat as well
  209. (08:11:30 AM) flesk: The ScummVM site has very good instructions on how to get the games to run.
  210. (08:11:57 AM) SirSlade: Interesting. Looks like a neat program
  211. (08:12:11 AM) flesk: I think I got my copy in -95 or something.
  212. (08:12:38 AM) flesk: ScummVM works really well on tablets.
  213. (08:12:59 AM) medacris: The thrift stores I've been in usually only have clothes and maybe a couple toys, nothing else
  214. (08:13:04 AM) flesk: Not so good on Nintendo DS.
  215. (08:13:26 AM) SirSlade: Yeah. I was considering just making a VM and installing windows 95 or something on it. How would you rate Scumm for lag/usability?
  216. (08:13:44 AM) Permafry_42: it's awesome
  217. (08:13:50 AM) Permafry_42: tim uses it
  218. (08:13:54 AM) Syd: I'm impressed that ScummVM runs on some of the platforms it's compatible with
  219. (08:13:58 AM) flesk: Yeah, it's very solid.
  220. (08:14:07 AM) Permafry_42: go to rural areas is my trick'
  221. (08:14:22 AM) Permafry_42: they have a lot of old electronics
  222. (08:14:46 AM) SirSlade: It runs on the Dreamcast? That's pretty awesome.
  223. (08:14:47 AM) flesk: It even works well on a smart phone. The Android version has this push pointer that gives you very good precision on small screens.
  224. (08:14:48 AM) Permafry_42: i found huge 1980s speakers for 4 bucks
  225. (08:14:49 AM) Syd: For most adventure games that are compatible with ScummVM, they run flawlessly, or at least nearly flawlessly, and it beats going through the trouble of installing a VM
  226. (08:15:10 AM) Syd: You can also set ScummVM to emulate various sound cards, like Adlib or MT-32
  227. (08:17:18 AM) Permafry_42: it can also emulate the kids humongous games
  228. (08:17:40 AM) Permafry_42: i used it for the pj sam games
  229. (08:20:17 AM) Permafry_42: oh yeah i also found a copy of full throttle if we ever want to do stream for it
  230. (08:20:35 AM) Cheeseness: Good lord
  231. (08:20:47 AM) Syd: That was streamed waaaay back in the early days, when Double Fine still ran the game club
  232. (08:21:09 AM) Permafry_42: oh alrighty then
  233. (08:21:15 AM) Syd: Pretty sure it was Greg Rice that streamed it
  234. (08:23:01 AM) SirSlade: I was thinking The Longest Journey would be a cool game to see streamed
