rxTools Guide for FE:if Patch

What is rxTools?
rxTools is a custom firmware (CFW). It allows you the freedom to do a variety
of things you otherwise wouldn't be able to... In this case, playing patched
games. Since you landed on this page, it looks like rxTools is the right CFW
for you! You'll be launching into rxMode each time you want to play the game.

STILL ONLY WORKING ON 4.0-9.2.0 O3DS/2DS EDITION

Prerequisites:
Decently-sized SD card (preferably 8GB or more)

							Installing rxTools
							------------------

Step 0: !!DO NOT UPDATE YOUR FIRMWARE!!DO NOT!!UPDATE YOUR FIRMWARE!!
        Please don't update your firmware, even when prompted by the system.
        Take care in rejecting all the prompts that tell you to.
        You WILL be updating the firmware in this tutorial, but only while
        in rxMode.

STEPS:
1. Place Launcher.dat, rxTools.dat, firmware.bin, and slot0x25KeyX.bin pertaining to your region into the SD card root.
2. Back up your SD card's contents, new files included.
3. Go to http://go.gateway-3ds.com on the 3DS browser to launch Gateway Menu.
3a. If the browser exploit doesn't work at any point, go to Options and clear Cookies and History.
4. Using the D-Pad, navigate and select "Format emuNAND". !!!VERIFY THAT YOUR SD CARD IS BACKED UP!!!
5. After the process is completed, power off the 3DS.
        * Hold down the power button for 10 seconds.
        * Release it, then hold it down again for 3 seconds.
        * Release it, and hold it down once more until the 3DS shuts down.
5. Eject your SD card and restore the SD card backup files.
6. Reinsert the SD card into your 3DS.
6. Go to http://launch.rxTools.net on the 3DS browser to launch rxTools.
7. Go to System Settings, check that the Firmware version says RX3D. Run System Update if it does.
        * Note: !!Exiting System Settings on emuNAND will kick you out into sysNAND!!
                !!Make sure that you run System Update while ONLY IN emuNAND.      !!
8. Open the rxTools Menu by holding R while launching rxTools.
9. Go to Other Options -> Install FBI over Health&Safety App -> Install to emuNAND.
        * It will say an error occured. That's normal.
          Take note of the TMD version (v0, v1026, v2051) and console region (jp, usa, eur, twn, kor, etc.).
        * Power down your console, eject SD card.
        * Open the appropriate \release\fbi_injection\(region)\(version) folder.
        * Place the fbi_inject.app and .tmd with the appropriate version (found in the rxTools bundle)
          into the root directory of your SD card.
        * Try installing it again (step 6 - 9).
10. Go back to the rxTools main menu and launch rxMode.


							Installing the .cia
							-------------------

Now the Health & Safety app will be replaced with FBI whenever emuNAND is loaded. You'll be using FBI to install the .cia whenever a new patch is released. If you have the patched .cia ready on your SD card (and you're also in rxMode), use FBI to install the .cia.

It should be good to note that whenever you reinstall the .cia (in other words, whenever you patch the game again), the first page of saves get wiped unless you back it up with SaveDataFiler. However, if you have the FE:if Special Edition + third path, the saves on the second and third pages are preserved even if you reinstall the game.

If you get a database error upon trying to install, follow these steps:
1. Eject the SD card and open it up on your computer.
2. Open the "Nintendo 3DS" folder. Then open the folder inside of it. Then open the folder inside of that one. You should see an "extdata" folder.
3. Make a new folder in the same directory as the "extdata" folder (NOT inside of it), and name it "dbs". Then go into the folder and make two blank text files: "title.db" and "import.db".
4. Reinsert SD card into your 3DS and power it on.
5. Go into Settings -> Data Management -> Software.
6. It'll ask to repair software management info, select OK.
7. Launch rxMode, enter FBI and try installing the .cia again.

Once it's installed, exit FBI to the Home screen. You should see a new icon appear. That should be FE:if!


							Dumping the .3ds file
							  via  Gateway Menu
							---------------------

1. Make sure your game cartridge is inserted.
2. Go to http://go.gateway-3ds.com on the 3DS browser to launch Gateway Menu.
3. Using the D-Pad, navigate to the right and select "BACKUP 3DS GAME CARTRIDGE"
4. Press Start to dump the game. It should show >> GAME CODE: CTR-P-BF*J, depending on whether your game is Special Edition, Hoshido, Nohr.
	* BFZJ = Special Edition
	* BFXJ = Hoshido
	* BFYJ = Nohr
5. Press nothing and wait for the READING bar to fill up.
6. Once it's done, you'll be able to find a file simply called BF*J.3ds on your SD card. You'll be using this file to dump the Xorpads and patch up the game.

! If http://go.gateway-3ds.com or http://launch.rxTools.net are down or dead, you may use http://dukesrg.no-ip.org/3ds/go?Launcher.dat and http://dukesrg.no-ip.org/3ds/go?rxTools.dat , respectively
! Exiting System Settings on emuNAND will kick you out into sysNAND
! Bookmark the Browser exploit launchers for convenience
! Always update your emuNAND through System Update. Never update through ROMs/CIAs
! Keep a backup of your emuNAND by using the emuNAND Tool ( http://gbatemp.net/threads/emunand-tool-release-and-support-thread.359239/ )
