Local Elections, 2018 (Polling Day: Thursday, 3rd May 2018).
Claire Perry MP on the BBC's Local Election 2018 coverage stated that after 8 years in power, Tony Blair had lost "over 4,000" councillors.
Here's the change in Labour Councillors from 1997 to 2006:
Year | Labour Councillor Change | Source |
---|---|---|
1997 | +28 | Local Government Chronicle website in archive.org |
1998 | -88 | Wikipedia |
1999 | -1,161 | Wikipedia |
2000 | -568 | Wikipedia |
2001 | 0 | Wikipedia |
2002 | -334 | Wikipedia |
2003 | -833 | Wikipedia |
2004 | -464 | Wikipedia |
2005 | -114 | Wikipedia |
2006 | -319 | Wikipedia |
- For the 8-year period 1997-2004 the total change was: -3,420.
- For 1998-2005 the total change was: -3,562.
- And for 1999-2006 the total change was: -3,793.
All three possible 8-year time windows that could conceivably be used are between -3,420 and -3,793 - none of them are "over 4,000". So Claire Perry MP was talking horseshit.
