  1. His father was a hunter by trade, just like his father before him, and his father before him. He'd spend days, sometimes weeks out there finding and tracking game, sleeping under the stars, cooking anything and everything they could find, skin, and put over a fire. Luke learned everything from his dad, how to fish, how to find wild vegetables and mushrooms to eat without puking out your innards, how to track, how to hunt (a lot of "listening and waiting"), and how to prepare meat and take care of their family heirloom and firearm "Old Bess" that's been handed down and upgraded from generation to generation. In another time, had they wanted, the Jakobsen's might have been great gunsmiths if they ever moved into town to sell their wares.
  2. There's an old saying among the family "If it took more than one shot, it ain't a Jakobsen that done it." When asked if this was referring to their handcrafted guns or the accuracy shooter, the answer is always "Yes."
  3. And that's what happened to Luke as he came into town, to get some actual parts to repair and get some retrofitting to Old Bess, in preparation for this seasons hunt.
  4. Now though, there's a new type of hunt and a new kind of game. And it ain't man that might be the hunter this time.
  5. But not if Luke has anything to say about it.
