- As Spitfire, Ponybro and I walked into General Dan's capitol building we met no resistance.
- I closed the door behind the three of us, leaving behind the abyss that was Danland.
- There were no guards, no security, nothing. This was peculiar to say the least.
- We silently made our way through the corridor, not a single word was uttered.
- A single glance at Spit's face told me something was abnormal.
- We approached a large, oak double-door.
- We stopped, took a look at each other, gave a nod, and Spitfire opened the door.
- Following behind Our ally, Ponybro and I took our positions on either side of him.
- All three of us quickly stopped, almost in unison.
- He was just sitting there, lifeless in his chair behind his desk.
- There was a note sitting in front of him.
- Spitfire began to approach it, but was quickly stopped by Ponybro.
- This was his old ally, after all.
- Spits stooped his advances and Ponybro picked up the small piece of paper.
- "Fuck all of you."
- Ponybro swiftly ripped up the note and dropped it on the ground.
- We didn't dare ask what it said.
- Ponybro walked past both Spitfire and I, his face as staern as that of a dead man.
- We had come here to finish the job and kill Dan, but it was already done.
- I figured we could just leave and return to our respectful nations right then.
- I was wrong.
- As Ponybro was approaching the door, Spitfire unsheathed a dagger from her waist.
- My eyes went as wide as ever.
- Spits started following him. She started walking at an alarming pace.
- I followed quickly. I could still stop this.
- Ponybro stopped to open the doors and Spitfire's arm lunged back, dagger-in-hoof.
- I grabbed her arm as fast as I could, she looked back at me with a grimace.
- Ponybro exited, un-alarmed, and Spitfire closed the door as he left.
- She turned to me and re-holstered the dagger.
- Before she could say anything, I broke the silence.
- >"Spits look, this has gone on lo-"
- >"No, you're right. I don't know what came over me."
- I was relieved to hear this.
- I didn't want anymore fighting, that's why I stopped her.
- A smile crossed Spitfire's face and I returned my own.
- We started approaching each other, ready for an embrace.
- As her arms gripped my body, I closed my eyes.
- This was the most peaceful moment since before the war started.
- ...And then I felt a sharp pain in my back.
- I gasped for air and lost my balence.
- Spitfire kept me elevated with her arms and whispered into my ear one last time.
- >"I planned it all."
- My life flashed before my eyes as Spitty let me down to the ground in her arms.
- She placed me on my side and walked out of the room after glancing at me over her shoulder.
- The door closed.
- In the movies they always said that your life flashes before your eyes at this part.
- My life didn't flash before mye yes or anything cool like that, but something else 'happened'.
- The doors creaked, and I look over to them.
- They slowly opened, and I couldn't believe what I saw.
- It was him. He ws alive. He was here.
- One last smile streaked across my face.
- He slowly approached me, fixing his tie.
- I looked up at him in admiration.
- He then crouched down and said the last thing I ever heard.
- >"You could have chosen me. You could have listened. You could have lived."
- I coughed up a bit of blood just in front of his shoes and uttered my last words.
- >"I-It happened.."
- I coughed up even more blood now.
- He waited patiently.
- >"It happened...Long ago."
- With that, I closed my eyes and slowly let the gift of death embrace me.
- I could have sworn I heard him say:
- >"It hasn't even begun happening yet."
- I felt him pick me up and carry me over to Dan's desk.
- >"Most don't know I'm a doctor."
- I fell into a deep slumber with a sliver of hope that I would live to see another day.
