  1. ==============================================================================
  2. Part 6 - Not procrastinating I swear
  3. ==============================================================================
  4.
  5.
  6.
  7. Histoire's voice is very official sounding, she calmly says:
  8.
  9. “Now, I will ask you two some questions.”
  10.
  11. Your eyes creep open.
  12.
  13. What.
  14.
  15. Your eyelids flicker, still heavy.
  16.
  17. Hand.
  18.
  19. You feel a hand connect with your face, making a terrifying thunderclap and jolting you out of sleep.
  20.
  21. You would jump up, but a weight is on your chest.
  22.
  23. Compa is there.
  24.
  25. She appears very upset, the determined look in her face is quickly overridden by the tears balling up in the corners of her eyes.
  26.
  27. “I- I tried to shake you awake but. You just wouldn’t wake up… then you started yelling and screaming and…”
  28.
  29. It was a dream. A glorious and beautiful dream turned to a horrible nightmare.
  30.
  31. “I didn’t want to slap you, I don’t ever ever wanna hurt you but it was too much for my heart to bear seeing you be tortured like that.”
  32.
  33. “You had been asleep since we got to the room and then just started going crazy PLEASE forgive me…”
  34.
  35. “Its fine…” you weakly get out, your throat aching and dry.
  36.
  37. Compa smothers you in a hug, nearly strangling you with her beloved warmer wrapped arms.
  38.
  39. The girl is sobbing, it doesn’t last long but as she pulls away she bears a giant smile. Her little nose is a bit flushed and pokes yours.
  40.
  41. “What was so scary onii-chan? I love you lots so you shouldn’t be afraid to tell me!”
  42.
  43. It takes a moment to gather your thoughts, a vortex of battle and insanity reverberates in your mind.
  44.
  45. It takes a while to describe the whole situation, but Compa looks increasingly concerned by the end of your tale.
  46.
  47. “...and Leanbox doesn’t even have a bridge, we flew here…” you note.
  48.
  49. Compa is trying her best to crush you in a hug.
  50.
  51. “You didn’t sleep at all on the plane! You’re probably trying to get sick on top of all that fatigue!”
  52.
  53. “...there’s no way you could fire my FAL in automatic either…” you absent-mindedly spout.
  54.
  55. Your love pauses. She looks more upbeat after a moment.
  56.
  57. “Worrying about it won’t help, I’ll just enjoy you the way you are!”
  58.
  59. Compa brushes her nose a couple times against yours, teasing into a kiss.
  60.
  61. Her right arm is still behind your neck as she slides into the nook of your arm, drawing loose circles and patterns on your breast. Her legs are their usual stocking clad beauties, one slenderly bowing over you with the tiny foot resting in between your thighs.
  62.
  63. “The air-conditioning is too cold for me sweetheart, don’t you think so too?” she asks.
  64.
  65. You barely get done nodding before Compa pulls the luxury comforter over both of you, taking the opportunity to push your shirt under your armpits. It’s an odd fit but her bare finger traces across your skin like an electrified soldering iron.
  66.
  67. Her soft cheek is as warm as sun rays on your shoulder, gently shaking as she giggles.
  68.
  69. “Onii-chan, I love you, I love you, I love you. I could never say it enough!”
  70.
  71. Wait what? Didn’t Iffy correct her in the dream?
  72.
  73. “Compa, you’re annunciating “Onii-chan” out now?”
  74.
  75. Compa tucks into your shoulder a bit more before speaking.
  76.
  77. “Yeah… I’m super sorry… I didn’t think at all about it. Iffy corrected me over the phone while you were knocked out-”
  78.
  79. “It's fine. I know you wouldn’t do anything like that on purpose.”
  80.
  81. You feel her chest rise expectantly, you respond in kind.
  82.
  83. “Even if you made a mistake, you’re still my sweetie. You’re the best and I love you too.”
  84.
  85. Compa squeezes your right cheek and kisses the other.
  86.
  87. “You look all tough and serious but act like a giant teddy bear sometimes onii-chan~”
  88.
  89. “Anything else?” you barely whisper into her ear.
  90.
  91. Her sweet scented locks of hair distract you, letting you slowly twist them next to her ear, only to fall over her face.
  92.
  93. Compa pulls herself to your ear and whispers back:
  94.
  95. “Snuggles are the best, this is great on its own~”
  96.
  97. Your pinned arm soon finds the space between her shoulder blades resting there for a moment as she presses into your side. The girl feels her way around your muscles, massaging every little bit of stress out. You might’ve been there for hours, you can’t tell with the constant release Compa presses out of you.
  98. Your body is simply immobilized by Compa’s tender relief and she happily curls back up into your arm. At some point, you completely lost your shirt. A kiss to the top of her head grants a happy purring out of your beloved, letting her girly magic work its wonders on your soul.
  99.
  100. ==============================================================================
  101.
  102. Well damn it, you missed breakfast. Almost missed lunch too but that doesn’t matter. Compa has you on a string, or maybe… maybe you are doing just the same to her. She wears one of your plain shirts, loose over her short shorts. You end up under a tiki style bar, sitting on the edge of the rough wooden planking with Compa. Your beloved has a fruit smoothie made on the inside of a coconut with two straws, but insists on using yours. Sharing a cold drink right out of the sun but still in the wonderful heat feels so right today.
  103.
  104. You finally realized that the shirt Compa is wearing was the one you were wearing. She might seem slow sometimes but she also surprises you at a similar rate. The entire time, Compa bears a shining smile, one that just broadcasts to every single person that walks by who she loves. It's the sort of attitude that improves those of all around her, and you’re no exception. Vacation was a good idea.
  105.
  106. The sun is setting, and the people are slowly clearing out for dinner.
  107.
  108. You’ve relocated with Compa to a wooden chair that was obviously not designed for two people to the edge of the sea’s wash. The hot but cooling sand feels good in your toes just like the woman curled around your upper body. You’ve spent the day just chatting, being yourselves in great crowds of people, yet it felt like it was just the two of you the whole time. You can’t remember what you’ve been talking about but the both of you have gotten trapped many times throughout the day in the eye of the other for durations, broke by the soft blush of the other. It's gotten a bit harder to tell with the sun-kissed color of her cheeks.
  109.
  110. The ocean’s lapping drowns out thought, Compa’s lips are too tempting for you to not kiss.
  111.
  112. Over and over, for as long as you can stand before your lungs start to scream for air, you kiss.
  113.
  114. Compa spins around in the chair to face you.
  115.
  116. SMASH!
  117.
  118. You end up together on the sand in a pile, chair tipped over.
  119.
  120. Yet.
  121.
  122. Its still together. You can coax a few more kisses out of her on the ground.
  123.
  124. The sea kicks you two lovebirds into action after it sweeps your feet and steals your empty coconut.
  125.
  126. It feels exactly like the first date as you two shyly return the chair to its stack near the beach bar. The chillingly calm atmosphere returns well after your little kissing match on the beach. Your opposite arms make a bridge over the air in front of you two, hands grasping and feeling the beloved texture of the one they can’t live without. You’re so focused on your lover that the presence of another person is almost unnoticed until a familiar note calls out.
  127.
  128. “My My, you two are just absorbed in each other today.~”
  129.
  130. You stumble, the woman has somewhat regained her regality in your eyes since your first meeting.
  131.
  132. “Lady Vert!” You say as Compa nearly copies “Vert-sama!”
  133.
  134. Vert kindly giggles and follows with a smile before speaking.
  135.
  136. “I saw you two at the beach bar today, I wasn’t going to interrupt. Enjoying my resort?”
  137.
  138. “This is your resort ma’am?”
  139.
  140. “Well of course, it is in my great nation of Leanbox after all.” she says with a smug satisfaction, pressing a pristinely gloved hand to the center of her chest.
  141.
  142. Vert pauses for a moment.
  143.
  144. “I don’t mean to be rude or take too much of your time, but I would most enjoy it if you would join me in the Executive suite for a fine dinner.”
  145.
  146. A bizarre foreboding looms over Vert as she finishes, handing over a keycard.
  147.
  148. “Use this in the elevator, it will take you directly to the top.” she explains.
  149.
  150. Vert disappears as quickly as she appeared, leaving you standing and staring with a keycard in hand. Compa pokes you.
  151.
  152. “Sweetie I don’t have any fancy clothes to wear…”
  153.
  154. “Same, I bet Vert wouldn’t mind if we showed up in our usual as long as it was clean.”
  155.
  156. Compa smiles, she sort of meanders back to the room, the slowly trading lead makes the walk almost like a slow dance. She stumbles occasionally, but with you there to catch her, you suspect that she might be doing it on purpose.
  157.
  158. Compa quickly changes to her usual plush woolen outfit, her white slip-ons click on the floor as you duck in for a final kiss before you look for Vert.
  159.
  160. It was supposed to be a quick little nip, but you linger, spending time savoring the taste of Compa’s strawberry lip gloss with your hands in the warm fields of her wooly sweater. Your hands soon find her lower back, resting right about your beloved’s generous hips. Her tongue tickles yours and the roof of your mouth before you part, she looks a bit embarrassed and wipes her mouth from the errant strand of saliva.
  161.
  162. The elevator isn’t stuffy like most, the whole resort is filled with beautiful stonework and hardwoods, brass metal trim and vast expanses of glass. This elevator is no exception to that standard. The bare brass handrail around the almost dimly light cabin is cold to the touch, Compa’s clothes make a swiping sound as she tucks into your side.
  163.
  164. “I wonder what Vert put together for us.”
  165.
  166. “Me too sweetie.” You respond, staring into the void of night over the ocean. The elevator is quick, but Vert’s resort is absurdly tall.
  167.
  168. Ding.
  169.
  170. The doors slide open to a tastefully carpeted and decorated lobby, no signs of people besides a sign made of printer paper written on with permanent marker.
  171.
  172. “Come on in :)” the sign says.
  173.
  174. You look at Compa, you can feel you’re imitating her soft, warm smile.
  175.
  176. Confetti explodes in your face and someone tackles you two.
  177.
  178. “HAPPY HOLIDAYS!” shouts a collection of girls led by Vert.
  179.
  180. There are even more here than when you went to the beach, you even spy MAGES and Cave working together to harass 5pb. Iffy soon appears in front of you two, her usual coat missing and a pair of black cat ears on. Everyone wears all variety of costumes, there are tables filled so heavily with food that they bow and everything is setup like an impromptu mash of Halloween,Thanksgiving and some bits of Christmas.
  181.
  182. “Hey, I didn’t know we were all going to get together here, Histoire told me something was wrong and I was supposed to investigate.”
  183.
  184. “Iffy you’re cute with the kitty ears on!” chimes Compa’s sweet voice.
  185.
  186. Iffy looks flattered but grabs your hand.
  187.
  188. “Congratulations on keeping my girl safe, it means a lot to me.” Iffy is choking back her emotions, but can’t help cracking a glorious smile as a few tears stream.
  189.
  190. “Compa’s easy to take care of, I think you might overestimate how much work she is Iffy.” you respond.
  191.
  192. You pause. IF is usually concerned about Compa, is something special about today?
  193.
  194. “Is something wrong Iffy?”
  195.
  196. Compa clasps over both of your hands.
  197.
  198. “Iffy if you want help dating, adventuring or having fun I’m sure we have can help!” Compa cheerily says.
  199.
  200. She continues: “It’s not good to be serious all the time and Onii-chan says that there are guys who prefer ladies with no boobies you know?”
  201.
  202. IF quickly regains her sternness,
  203.
  204. “DAMNIT YOU TWO!”
  205.
  206. IF angrily wipes her face, soon assuming a signature IF angry pose.
  207.
  208. “Yesterday, FOUR YEARS ago, was the day your husband told me he wanted to marry YOU Compa!”
  209.
  210. Compa froze.
  211.
  212. You interject with “Why four years? Wouldn’t 5 or 10 be a more normal time?”
  213.
  214. Compa doesn’t start to speak until she hugs her friend. You can hear a faint whisper, a simple thank you.
  215.
  216. The emotion doesn’t dampen the cheerful mood around you, and it's heartwarming to see IF care so much about a relationship that isn’t even her’s. When Iffy smiles, it seems like there’s a whole new person around.
  217.
  218. Vert snatches you from the crowd with impressive skill, her feet pivot as the finest of dancers would around and through the girls. At some point she linked your arm in hers, yet there was a cold, professional feel to her emotions. Vert’s elegance is somewhat off put by the black silken witch dress which does its best to lay her tremendous endowments in everyone’s eye. A soft, yet royal smile creeps into the corner of her mouth as she explains herself in a side room, the muffled laughter next door barely registers in your mind.
  219.
  220. “Sorry for the lack of notice and information, it's surprisingly difficult to get all of you together~”
  221.
  222. “Wha’dya pull me aside for?”
  223.
  224. “Well Mr Man-Of-The-Night, you get to help me with the presents~”
  225. “Wait what?” Your previous dealings with Vert make you suspect something is awry.
  226.
  227. Vert looks shocked at your facial expression.
  228.
  229. “Oh my, not anything lewd, I just didn’t have any time after my last raid to move all the stuff.”
  230.
  231. “Really?”
  232.
  233. “Really! I’m a very important guild member!~”
  234.
  235. It’s impossible to suppress the urge to sigh, but you help Vert nonetheless.
  236.
  237. It’s no wonder that the leader of a nation could afford so many gifts, the entire walk-in closet is filled to the brim with all manner of packaging.
  238.
  239. “All of this is for the girls? You bought all of this?”
  240.
  241. “Well uh…”
  242.
  243. Vert fidgets a moment.
  244.
  245. “I wasn’t supposed to say, but Noire has been quite adept in helping me plan all this….”
  246.
  247. “If Noire helped so much, why isn’t she out there with the others?”
  248.
  249. “I don’t know…”
  250.
  251. “Well, these boxes won’t move themselves, we’re putting these in the massive entry where the food is right?”
  252.
  253. “Yes.”
  254.
  255. ==============================================================================
  256.
  257. The work is easy compared to what you usually do, the closet is nearly empty when you hear a soft bump.
  258.
  259. In the dim, you peek into the empty shelving.
  260.
  261. A girl in a thin Lastation logoed windbreaker lies asleep, a… Twin ponytail over her face?
  262.
  263. You poke her:
  264.
  265. “Wake up!”
  266.
  267. The girl nearly jumps through the wall.
  268.
  269. Who was that?
  270.
  271. The girl turns and looks at you with a shocked expression.
  272.
  273. You recognize that face instantly.
  274.
  275. “Noire!”
  276.
  277. Noire offers no response.
  278.
  279. “Why were you asleep back here?”
  280.
  281. “I-I was tired, No matter! Are the girls about to start arriving?”
  282.
  283. The situation takes a moment for the tsundere to grasp.
  284.
  285. “WAIT! You’re here that mean!”
  286.
  287. “Yeah, I wondered why Neptune wasn’t trying to start a video game tournament against you.”
  288.
  289. Noire looks serious.
  290.
  291. “Like hell I’d let her stomp all over the others!”
  292.
  293. Noire disappears, you feel the urge to follow.
  294.
  295. ==============================================================================
  296.
  297. Being crammed into a couch of Maryo Party playing girls is a terrifying venture, even more so when they’re superpowered and varying degrees of immortal. Compa is able to get out of the game rotation by offering her controller up, starting a Planeptune versus Lastation competition immediately with the recently revived Noire. You and Compa get pushed over the minute amount of space you had on the arm of the sofa by Neptune bowling over her sister in a triumphant cheer as they both get 1st and 2nd in turn rotation.
  298.
  299. The deck of the penthouse is chilly in the night, but Compa keeps you warm, sitting against the half wall that overlooks the pool.
  300.
  301. Compa smiles as she leans into your shoulder. Her eyes flutter, resting closed for a moment.
  302.
  303. “I hope lots that Iffy finds some guy like you sweetie desu~”
  304.
  305. Compa turns to face you after you kiss the top of her head.
  306.
  307. “I was kinda worried when Vert-san stole you away, she texted me what you were doing so I’m not mad.”
  308.
  309. “I don’t think even a CPU would try their luck against you sweetie.”
  310.
  311. Compa’s vibrant smile transforms into confusion and a semblance of anger.
  312.
  313. “What do you mean!? I’m not a meanie or anything!”
  314.
  315. You take a moment to consider the options for response, it wasn’t the brightest comment to make on your part.
  316.
  317. “Well, I think they know quite well how close we are, and even a sneaky lady like Vert couldn’t wedge us apart.”
  318.
  319. Compa looks a lovely mixture of embarrassed and flattered.
  320.
  321. “W-Well, I don’t want EVERYONE to know how much I love you… that’s uh...”
  322.
  323. Compa’s arms shift to press her skirt to the ground.
  324.
  325. You initially wait for a follow-up but see the nervousness in her eyes.
  326.
  327. “Mind a little dirty tonight sweetie?”
  328.
  329. Compa squeezes you with all her strength.
  330.
  331. “Vert-sama cut our afternoon off…”
  332.
  333. “...You had plans sweetie?”
  334.
  335. “Well… I wanna do a lot of… stuff with you… our day date was just so perfect...”
  336.
  337. The way Compa fidgets tells you much more as a cheer resounds from the trailing lights of the penthouse.
  338.
  339. You stand up against the half wall, bringing your heavily blushing wife with.
  340.
  341. “I’ll make your day even better, lets keep our girls company.”
  342.
  343. Compa's full smile returns like the tide, you pull her towards the balcony door. The woman stops you before you enter, wrapping her arms as deeply around you as she can. Compa's slender arms warm your heart and soul.
  344.
  345. “Couldn't you have waited until we were inside?”
  346.
  347. Compa looks both spooked and confused for a heartbeat.
  348.
  349. “I didn't think of that…”
  350.
  351. You two tuck inside, Compa is too short to put an arm over your shoulder as you have for her. Compa settles for your lower back, temptingly tugging at your belt for a kiss before finding a chair to share.
  352.
  353. The chair you find makes a horrible cracking noise after your wife’s lack of tact crushes both of you into the cushions. The lengthy loveseat has a surprising amount of space left after Compa presses you as deep as possible into the corner. Your love’s soft cheek presses into your chest, her sleek legs folded over the other. Compa always has such immaculate legs, well kept in their little heart trimmed stockings. Your beloved’s toes curl a bit as your hand meets the back of her head, calmly massaging her scalp. You can see her eyes peeking into yours from the brim of her brow.
  354.
  355. The haphazardly decorated tree in the corner of the room, barely visible past a mountain of gifts draws your attention for a moment.
  356.
  357. Creak.
  358.
  359. The door barely perks open an inch or so.
  360.
  361. Compa turns her head as well, her hair sweeps your upper arm.
  362.
  363. You recognize the blush that barely greets you.
  364.
  365. “Come on in Uni, we’re decent!”
  366.
  367. Uni’s cowgirl outfit is cute as a button, her little flannel top shows off a slender belly through the unbuttoned and untucked bottom of the shirt.
  368.
  369. The door softly clicks as Uni shuts it behind herself.
  370.
  371. “Oi Uncle, you gonna-”
  372.
  373. Uni nearly gets bowled over by the door she just shut.
  374.
  375. “HEY! Watch where-”
  376.
  377. Iffy realizes she’s within kissing distance of Uni and tries to retreat, yet being getting off another person tactfully is quite difficult. While Uni and Iffy recover during a short argument, you and Compa share a soft laugh.
  378.
  379. Iffy finally comes over, Uni in tow.
  380.
  381. “Hey! It's the holidays, Uni and I want a picture together!”
  382.
  383. Compa reacts far too quickly.
  384.
  385. “Aiefu, you could have told me you had a crush on Uni, of course I’ll take your picture together!”
  386.
  387. You stop Compa with a hand.
  388.
  389. “I think she means all of us-” ...but the damage was already done.
  390.
  391. Iffy and Uni are both bickering and fighting, yet it doesn’t seem actually angry in anyway. The battling duo is adorable, especially when so flustered.
  392.
  393. Compa doesn’t even open her eyes while bearing a tremendous smile, despite the verbal tirade against her by the two tomboyish girls. It makes you wonder if Compa did it on purpose. Even with the bickering, the girls magnetize to your arms, Uni and Iffy as far from each other as possible while remaining under your wingspan. Even over the wonderful festive scents, you can make out the familiar aura of those you love. The lighted timer on the phone flashes, capturing your favorite people in the world, just like your mind did. It may have been a different perspective, but the impact was if anything; far more weighted. Uni’s oil and bore solvent hints, Iffy’s leather and outdoors, and Compa’s baking and hospital reminded you of the incidents that made your life whole.
  394.
  395. You talk to them with focus, it's been too long since you took care of these wonderful girls like the man you are.
  396.
  397. “You wanna go on a quest sometimes girls? We can start it off with a picnic so we don’t have to eat rations the whole time.”
  398.
  399. Uni picks up first, a glimmer in her eyes.
  400.
  401. “W-With GUNS and YOU?”
  402.
  403. “Well of course-”
  404.
  405. Compa interjects:
  406.
  407. “It’d be like a family trip right?”
  408.
  409. “Of course.”
  410.
  411. Iffy sighs, leading into a smile.
  412.
  413. “I mean, if you guys want to. Wouldn’t want to leave you weirdos alone in the wilderness...”
  414.
  415. Compa crushes Iffy in a hug.
  416.
  417. “Adventure time with Aiefu!”
  418.
  419. Iffy blushes, soon retorting:
  420.
  421. “You didn’t miss me or anything did you?”
  422.
  423. Iffy’s sarcasm flies right over Compa’s sweet head.
  424.
  425. “IF, don’t even joke, I always miss you! You too Uni!”
  426.
  427. Compa has wrangled both of the girls clamped into her grasp, nearly choking them in a very one-sided group hug. Compa doesn’t even realize that she’s also smothering them with her breasts.
  428.
  429. Uni somehow creeps out of Compa’s grasp long enough to wheeze for your help. You substitute for the girls, letting Compa calm down for a bit.
  430.
  431. “DINNER!” Someone yells from a few rooms over.
  432. Both of your arms are taken while you’re sitting on the floor, but Uni immediately breaks away upon standing, insisting that she was only helping you up.
  433.
  434. The turkey, potatoes, stuffing, any and all vegetables together take up two whole tables, the desserts and snacks take up another two. Describing everything would take far too long, so summed up: this was prepared by Vert’s finest chefs who could make Compa’s wholesome art look like fast food.
  435.
  436. Even though there’s a crowd, Uni somehow grabs her plate and is back at your side in an instant. The girl has coated her plate in nothing but finely crusted barbecued meats, nearly drooling just getting ready to tear into them. In between bites of beef, the girl starts to talk.
  437.
  438. “Hey! So what are you gonna bring old man?”
  439.
  440. “To where? The camping trip?”
  441.
  442. “Duh!”
  443.
  444. “Well, I’ve got a few options. It’s been awhile since my FAL ate some monsters.”
  445.
  446. “That old thing? Aww come on! I’ve got some super cool new guns to show you! For sure you’ve got something new too!”
  447.
  448. “Well you can tell me all about your new guns right now you little nerd!”
  449.
  450. “Its nothing like holding and shooti- HEY!”
  451.
  452. Your smile stops Uni’s outburst, she looks almost frustrated for a second.
  453.
  454. Uni closes her eyes and sighs, regaining her grin.
  455.
  456. “I’ve gotten my hands on some super super rare stuff, did you know Leanbox has handheld railguns?”
  457.
  458. “Well that would be quite the weapon-”
  459.
  460. Uni’s eyes are like stars, she interrupts you almost immediately.
  461. “Mine fires a 15 gram projectile at 950 meters a second! The built-in counterbalance system makes the recoil non-existent!”
  462.
  463. A familiar, somewhat serious voice calls to you during Uni’s fangirling. Iffy soon emerges with a plate of food and Compa in tow.
  464.
  465. “Don’t talk his ear off now Uni, I’m leaving your wife with you because she tried killing me with dijon mustard.”
  466.
  467. “Compa? What?”
  468.
  469. Compa looks slightly upset but also terribly sorry.
  470.
  471. “I thought it was hollandaise sauce!”
  472.
  473. Compa takes your side, handing you a plate filled with the same stuff as hers.
  474.
  475. “We like a lot of the same stuff! It makes it easy to get you dinner!”
  476.
  477. “Thanks hun.”
  478.
  479. The turkey is perfect, not dry, not over-seasoned, but deeply flavored.
  480.
  481. The chime of a crystal glass pulls your attention over the hubbub of the girl mob.
  482.
  483. Vert is standing on her own, a bare hand retreating after pinging the fine champagne fluke.
  484.
  485. “Attention! Please find a glass, we’re going to toast!”
  486.
  487. Iffy barely smiles and whispers:
  488.
  489. “It's really just sparkling apple cider, Vert didn’t trust Ram to stay out of whatever she bought.”
  490.
  491. Vert continues after most have retrieved a glass.
  492.
  493. “We’ve got a lot of be thankful for, and a lot to hope for! So, to another great year! Cheers!”
  494.
  495. The regal blonde sips the top off her drink, soon scanning the small crowd again. She brushes a strand of hair behind her ear before singling you out. Vert’s gesture beckons you to rise.
  496.
  497. You clear your voice before starting. There was a million things you could say.
  498.
  499. Keep it simple.
  500.
  501. “For all of you. Each and every one of you are what make the years worth it. No matter how we fight or bicker.”
  502.
  503. The faces watching you are priceless, but you know that time has numbered your days. The picture fades as the defibrillator pulls you back.
  504.
  505. In the burning wreck of a formerly jet black 1986 Camaro, the gouges of the same pattern you had scarring in are waterfalls of your life. Your heart renews its attempt to pump the life out of you, this time, a paramedic uniform blots out the fires and lights as a desperate attempt at clotting and bandages is applied.
  506.
  507. The silence in your mind is filled for a moment.
  508.
  509. Compa has returned. She speaks in monotone this time, a stiff departure from what you had known for what felt like years.
  510.
  511. “You were out for 4 minutes and some change.”
  512.
  513. Her expression fails to change for the next statement.
  514.
  515. “I am not sure if you will thrive or perish, after all, I am still part of you.”
  516.
  517. There is no reason to be afraid of either outcome. You have to go sometime.
  518.
  519. While you wish to ask questions, you remember the strawberry blonde hair of the paramedic that saved you.
  520.
  521. “Are you the paramedic that saved me?”
  522.
  523. “Find that out for yourself.”
  524.
  525. As you wake in the emergency room, the smile that greets you seems all too familiar. You barely lift your hand, yet you feel something inside your grasp.
  526.
  527. A slip of paper, with a string of numbers on it and… a name?
  528.
  529. “Call me~” it says.
  530.
  531. The newspaper on the end table showed a whole montage of pictures. You were a civilian hero, and that was all you could make out before passing out again.
  532.
  533.
  534.
  535.
  536. The End.
