  6. I am curious: do you watch a video all the way through before commenting on it - or is everything done on the fly? I would say that "Sam Harris" understands the arguments you are making but at the end of the day eating meat is a legal, convenient, and common practice. Of course, it is naïve to think that the exploitation of animals for our taste pleasure can ever be a "good" thing for them ("JF" is just a French-sounding troll), but there are laws in place to reduce wanton cruelty.
  7.
  8. Sure, there are many questionable practices that are perfectly legal and the sickening realities of eating meat is one of them. Although making an activity illegal does not necessarily stop it from happening, would you ever argue the case that eating meat ought to be illegal? Would you be happy if there were a limit on how much meat an individual could buy and consume?
  9.
  10. In my opinion, veganism cannot have a meaningful impact on the world's population until perfectly equivalent lab-grown meat (that's indistinguishable from the real thing) becomes a reality and is available to the consumer at no additional cost or hassle.
  11.
  12. Until such time, vegans are faced with a perpetual and unwinnable struggle. I have to wonder why an intelligent person would dedicate his or her life to a cause that simply cannot be won on intellectual grounds. Not even remotely. Most of the population will continue to apathetically eat farmed animals _until_ the advent of perfectly equivalent lab-grown meats.
  13.
  14. Many people are not bright enough, empathetic enough, or motivated enough to switch over to a lifetime of ethical eating. If it were the case, then more people would stop eating meat after listening to "Earthling Ed" or watching a 5-minute animal slaughter video.
  15.
  16. Do not get me wrong: I am not suggesting that no one should promote ethical eating. It is excellent that you do. But, would it not be wise to also focus some of your audience's time and attention onto practical solutions? (I.e., perfectly equivalent lab-grown meats.)
  17.
  18. For what it is worth, I too disagree with "Sam Harris" on some things. But all things considered he remains one of the more reasoned speakers in the public sphere. Certainly, he is a class above the many charlatans, hypocrites, and sophists that abound (such as "Matt Dillahunty", "Lawrence Krauss", and so forth).
  19.
  20. P.S. Anyone who has read this far and has something to say, go for it.
