  14. [2014-12-03 13:11:47] <Kkat> 3CopyCat bites her lip as the mental recap flows from her friends. "Those tunnels we found under the obelisk, perhaps they offer us a way inside that temple without incurring the Empress' wrath."

  18. [2014-12-03 13:12:19] <Kkat> 3Mare-Do-Well thinks. "Soooo... we sneak our way into that temple... in order to get into the lava tubes. Then make our way under the Fortress!" She seems to be forgetting the 'get the Amulet' step, but at least she's got her enthusiasm back!

Why don't you sit up there in your floaty-boats and keep the Ahools company while we come to an internal agreement. We'll let you know when we want to speak further." He switches the radio off.

  34. [2014-12-03 13:18:24] <Kkat> 3A blazing silver-blue light erupts from the lock, enveloping the powder horn. The horn is pulled from Golden_Dream's grasp, spinning in the air. In a bright flash that casts stark shadows across the walls of the pit, the horn transforms into a key!
  35. [2014-12-03 13:18:31] <Kkat> 3The key is large, with an ornate handle shaped like a cascade of teardrops. The light from the lock focuses into a beam, drawing the key into itself.
  36. [2014-12-03 13:19:09] <Kkat> 3Get_Lost says, "well, another point to the try everything on everything solving method. take that, lucasarts!" Get_Lost nodnods approvingly.
  37. [2014-12-03 13:19:28] <Kkat> 3Noble_Heart looks up towards the thing, having just spotted the wisps of white light. "We should leave before we open the box. It was hidden for a reason."

  44. [2014-12-03 13:20:28] <Kkat> 3The chest pops open with a melodious sound. The silver-blue light fades down to a tiny pinprick of deep blue.
  45. [2014-12-03 13:20:38] <Kkat> 3That spark of light is emanating from the heart of a star sapphire set into the center of a dark metal amulet, surrounded by a motif of tears.

  47. [2014-12-03 13:21:09] <Kkat> 3Shatara's claws are more than sufficient for the job. In a moment, he is holding a bronze goblet the size of a griffin child, ringed with griffin writing.

  49. [2014-12-03 13:21:32] <Kkat> 3Get_Lost asks, "did we get everything we need? i think that a guided tour of tartarus ids now officially a bad idea and i'm okay if anypony wants to go back snd ask for a refund"

  51. [2014-12-03 13:21:43] <Kkat> 3Shatara beeps back at Parlay and tugs at it. "Hey, I'm the griffon here!"

  59. [2014-12-03 13:22:41] <Kkat> 3The Goblet's writing helpfully instructs in its use. The writing is very old griffin, but Shatara begins to translate.

  61. [2014-12-03 13:22:52] <Kkat> 3Golden_Dream gasps for air. "This... This were a helluva thing."
  62. [2014-12-03 13:23:11] <Kkat> 3Mare-Do-Well floats next to Golden_Dream and nods. Mare-Do-Well says softly, "h-hey... thanks for coming for me."
  63. [2014-12-03 13:23:16] <Kkat> 3Bookwright reloads Pew-Pew before he forgets. "Bleh, I feel awful. That spiderthing... It did something really bad. I feel like I've just galloped twenty miles."

  65. [2014-12-03 13:23:27] <Kkat> 3Golden_Dream points very assuredly at Mare-Do-Well. "You fuckin' /terrified/ me back there. You knew that we can only see y' when yer by us. I thought you were gone fer good! What would I have done if I'd never see you again?!" Her voice sounded like her mom's. She was uncomfortable with this in retrospect.

  74. [2014-12-03 13:30:49] <Mare-Do-Well> 3Translating is going slowly, although Shatara is sure he can figure it out given time. Already, he can tell that the writing is instructions on the Goblet's purpose and use. But the extremely archaic language is making translation difficult.
  75. [2014-12-03 13:33:17] * Bookwright loosens his shoulders. Flying is /hard./ "Hey, I have an idea!" he says brightly, "We should just let Shatara keep the goblet. It is /the griffin's goblet/ after all!"
  76. [2014-12-03 13:36:07] * Get_Lost "shatara, can i try something? i have an idea that could work..."
  77. [2014-12-03 13:36:41] * CopyCat tilts her head. That goblet was /big/. "We could keep it. It's what the pirates wanted though, isn't it? And they're watching the entrance with guns... We'd have to find another way out of here and sneak back to our wagon."
  78. [2014-12-03 13:37:47] * Shatara blinks at Get_Lost. "Does it involve turning the goblet into a 30 foot walking tank?"
  79. [2014-12-03 13:38:07] * Bookwright "Don't forget that the wagon is effectively invisible thanks to Shatara. And we could teleport out and make a run for it if we are careful. But we still have to find the Element of Laughter."

  82. [2014-12-03 13:39:43] * CopyCat looks at Shatara with such alarm that an exclamation mark appears above her head. "!" It only lasts a second, then she giggles.
  83. [2014-12-03 13:41:06] <Mare-Do-Well> 3Golden_Dream recalls that finding the Element of Laughter involves turning the Amulet of Atonement over to the Faceless. At least, that was the bargain.

  88. [2014-12-03 13:44:48] * Bookwright nods. "I think we should keep some reserve of our power for just such a case though. It doesn't hurt to have a backup plan."
  89. [2014-12-03 13:48:30] * Golden_Dream perks up. They can just teleport out? It's honestly been so long since they've done that, that she completely forgot that's a thing they can do.
  90. [2014-12-03 13:50:56] * CopyCat blinks at Noble_Heart and Bookwright, then she turns to Golden_Dream and smiles. "Our friends are magic!"
  91. [2014-12-03 13:51:36] * Mare-Do-Well 3offers weakly, "I... could scout?"
  92. [2014-12-03 13:52:21] * Bookwright shakes his head. "Magic is just applied science. It would take a lot of power, and I think we should save it for a last resort."
  93. [2014-12-03 13:52:58] * Bookwright tries to take his mind off the cannons above. He goes over to check on their captives, giving Kifaa a special cheerful smile as he does so.
  94. [2014-12-03 13:54:42] * Golden_Dream clops her hoof down. "You peek up there, and th' moment you know if it's clear or not, you get right back down, you hear me, RD?"
  95. [2014-12-03 13:55:31] * Noble_Heart frowns and looks downward. "We are still concerned about Mare-Do-Well getting too far from the seeds."
  96. [2014-12-03 13:57:33] * Golden_Dream shrugs. "Well, apparently, she don't fade fer good when she goes off by herself, as real scientific and safe experimentation can tell." You better bet those were the most pointed words she could muster.
  97. [2014-12-03 13:57:38] * Bookwright doesn't turn from his inspection of the hostages, but responds to Noble_Heart anyways, "It's a valid concern. She could get stuck on more ghost webs or something. It was pure luck that we ran into her down there. If she goes off and gets stuck somewhere, there's very little chance of us ever being able to find her again. It's just too dangerous."
  98. [2014-12-03 13:59:24] <Mare-Do-Well> 3Kifaa cringes back from Bookwright, staring at him balefully. Jugeote has woken up, and is watching Shatara shrewdly.

  110. [2014-12-03 14:12:11] * Golden_Dream gives a cheerful smirk, a little surprised when Jugeote screams. "What's their problem?" She asks. And then it dawns on her. "Wait, you can see her?"
  111. [2014-12-03 14:12:27] * Shatara looks beetween Jugeote and goastdashie. "Oh! Her!...no, we found her in an energy shield and helped her out so she followed us and helped us with stuff and...wait...you can see her?"

  116. [2014-12-03 14:18:14] * Noble_Heart looks down towards the exit, then back towards the zebras. She couldn't understand what they were saying, so it wasn't really that useful to her. "It seems then that our ability to leave is somewhat curtailed." She pulled the zebra transmitter from her bags. "But perhaps they are still willing to bargain."

  128. [2014-12-03 14:31:51] * Mare-Do-Well 3looks at Bookwright in mild disbelief. "Weren't you supposed to be a historian or something?" That was like an archeologist, right? Could you imagine Daring Do confusing the Razor of Dreams with the Ring of Destiny?

  134. [2014-12-03 14:38:25] * Noble_Heart chuckles at Bookwright's complaint. "Perhaps more notes are necessary then. Shall we search for those little yellow ones with sticky stuff on the back?"
  135. [2014-12-03 14:39:29] * Bookwright scowls at Noble_Heart before getting out a notebook and starts scratching in it with a stubby pencil.
  136. [2014-12-03 14:40:09] * CopyCat smiles at Noble_Heart. "Oh! Those sound so useful. I could stick them to me to remember things!"
  137. [2014-12-03 14:40:35] * Golden_Dream rubs her mane. "Alright, here's what's gonna happen. If this thing says something like 'sacrifice a bunch o' foals and drink th' blood outta this here cup fer ultimate power', then we're pitchin' it to faceless and bolting. If it's relatively harmless for them to have, we're leavin' this with one of them there zebras and then teleportin' back to th' wagon. We can prolly work with them t' find th' element."
  138. [2014-12-03 14:41:53] * Noble_Heart frowns. "We do not think that the zebra ship will be interested in working with us after we threatened their employees, knocked them out, tied them up, then held them hostage. Doing such things tends to burn bridges, not build them."
  139. [2014-12-03 14:42:22] * Mare-Do-Well 3asks Golden_Dream, "Do you think the Faceless will take the Griffin's Goblet for the location of the Element of Laughter instead of the Amulet of Atonement?"
  140. [2014-12-03 14:43:22] * Noble_Heart contemplates that as well. "We are uncertain. The value of something is based on how many know of it, yes? The amulet is apparently unknown. But these zebras sought the goblet. It is likely that our group are the only ones who even know the amulet exists in this era."
  141. [2014-12-03 14:43:40] * Golden_Dream shrugs. "I 'unno. Gotta hope, right?"
  142. [2014-12-03 14:47:17] * Golden_Dream points at the rest of the crew. "Regardless. From there, we go back to th' steam vent tunnels, try'ta get to th' underground part of th' Radiant Shield o' Rasdon, and then... Do somethin' that'll get th' Quetzlcoatl Queen t' go back down there."

  146. [2014-12-03 14:48:15] * Bookwright nods as he shades a part of the sketch. "Sounds as good as any of our other plans."
  147. [2014-12-03 14:48:18] * Mare-Do-Well 3points out, "You gals better act on a plan quickly. It didn't look like those pirates were going to wait much longer."
  148. [2014-12-03 14:52:00] * Golden_Dream taps her hoof. "Alright. Now, I think we should leave them zebras here and 'port back to th' firewagon. We sneak off while they're stormin' th' place. From there, we set up a deal location a bit more in our favor."
  149. [2014-12-03 14:53:12] * Bookwright "I'm not in favor of teleporting, if we can avoid it. What about... We just give them the Griffin's Goblet?"
  150. [2014-12-03 14:58:13] * Golden_Dream hums. "I dunno. I jus' really don't want this t' backfire. I jus' have th' worst feelin' about it."
  151. [2014-12-03 15:01:26] * CopyCat ponders aloud. "If we don't give the zebra the goblet then they will pursue us. They were willing to send in three of their own to their probable deaths to get it in the first place. If we trade it here then what else could they want from us?"

Using it is ritualistic, and requires the heart's blood of a sacrifice, poured out of it over the threshold of the portal.

They get it, and bring it here for a ritual. But Daring Do shows up, kicks all their flanks, and the Griffin's Goblet falls into a bottomless chasm under the temple."

  192. [2014-12-03 16:30:34] * Bookwright "Which is all true, because we just found the goblet and it definitely can let the Empress free. Crud. I was hoping that Daring Do had fictionalized it a little bit."
