Failing at feels

You were sitting in comfortable silence, leaning up against the love of your life. You ran a hand through her mane as you enjoyed the warm, comfortable breeze that blew. Looking over the horizon towards the sunset, you both utter a silent sigh of content as you scoot closer to eachother, enjoying the warmth of eachother.

You broke the silence, rubbing one of her withers as you spoke.
"No time at all for a love life?"

She sighed softly before answering.
"No, I'm sorry. Princesshood is practically a life of celibacy."

"We'll miss you."

"So will I," she answered as she wrapped her wing around you. "And I'll miss these moments the most."

You let your hand wander upwards, scratching behind her ear as you began idly thinking.
"It'll be hard, raising her on my own. But I'll persevere. Just as I always have."

She giggled, squeezing you a bit with her wing.
"I know you will. We both knew this day would come. I'm just glad our practically last day together was like this."

You lean up against her.
"So am I."

You sit in comfortable silence, enjoying the dying rays of the sun with the new princess of Equestria.

You wake up, slowly getting up from the sofa as you curse yourself for falling asleep. You had to finish insulating the windows, fix the leak in the tree roof something, you have a cat to feed and a--
"Did you sleep on the sofa again, Dad?"

You look at the source of the voice, and smile apologetically.
"Yeah, I must have. Sorry Glimmer, but there's a lot to do before winter."

She sits down on the sofa as well before hugging you.
"Don't worry Dad. We'll make it again, even though Spike's moved to Canterlot as well."

You look down in your hands, having completely forgotten you were holding a photo frame. An image of you and Twilight hugging eachother like a cheesy lovey-dovey couple is displayed.

Glimmer leans her head against your arm.
"I miss her."

You cover your attempt at wiping your misty eyes by slinging an arm around Glimmer.
"All of Ponyville does. I was told she'd be coming next Summer Sun, though."

Glimmer immediately looks up at you.
"Really?! Are you sure?"

You nod softly as you rustle her hair.
"I'm sure. Spike even came down from the castle when you were in school a couple of days ago to discuss it. So let's keep it neat for when Twilight comes for a visit."

She gets up, heading for the kitchen.
"This morning was fine after all," she mumbles to herself as she begins to cook breakfast for the two, humming happily as she went along.
