  1. Greetings.
  2. This story is a request for advice, as I presently have no one I trust for an objective point of view. The startup world can be an odd place, and any advice, similar stories or encouragement is appreciated.
  3.
  4. -- Background
  5. I am the CTO of a development / business accelerator company based in the Midwest. I got this gig by successfully leading the development team of a prior startup which exited with decent success. (sub 10million, yeah... it's the Midwest.) My technical skill, leadership and professionalism impressed the owners enough to include me as the CTO in their next venture. It was the expectation of me, and the partners that this new venture would focus primarily on technology and product development. Given my passion was technology the chance to build a world class development team in my home city seemed like a dream come true.
  6.
  7. -- Present
  8. I am one of four partners within the current venture. (Also the only developer. ) Our first year has been phenomenal with several high profile tech companies accelerated and products launched. Despite our success on the development front, the majority of the partners no show little interest in building a "software development" type business and instead favor focusing on more on marketing/business analyst type services. It's a feeling that after killing myself for a year to launch these products and put the company on the map, a bright path of further building a development company has been pivoted out of the picture.
  9.
  10. Questions for the Internet at large:
  11. My startup choose to pivot into an area I am not passionate about. Is this acceptable reason to part ways ?
  12. Will resigning a CTO position forever spoil a development career ?
  13.
  14. (I know this account may seem terse and I can expand on any details which may seem unclear.)
  15.
  16. Thank you for your time and very much appreciate any advice rendered.
