- "That's enough for now. Come. Speak with me for a moment."
- My eyes snapped open at my master's words. Taking a deep breath, I slowly rose to follow him. I noted, with mild satisfaction, that I did not shiver as I usually did upon leaving the cold stream of the waterfall. My focus must be improving.
- "What is it, Master?"
- "You have learned much since you've come here. Your discipline and strength of will is unmatched, among all my pupils. Well done."
- "Thank you...Master."
- I tried to conceal my puzzlement. Since I came here? Now that I think about it, I don't remember when I came here. I don't think I've ever been anywhere else.
- "Now, take what you've learned, my son. The time of your trial is upon you. You must awaken, my son! Awaken!"
- At this, the Master grasped my shoulders and began to firmly shake me. I didn't understand...I wanted to ask what he meant, but he started shaking me more violently, until my vision swam and reality seemed to shift-
- "Awaken, my son! I think the man next door is being attacked; we must help him! Grab what you can and follow me."
- With that, my father ran out the door.
- Remembering my training, I grabbed a broom and ran after him.
