  20. -- FAQ (Most of these questions can be answered by simply looking at the Quick Start Guide in the album, or the translation below this section)
  21. What is WIXOSS?
  22. WIXOSS is a bishoujo card game by TAKARA TOMY that has yet to be released in Japan,
  23. so don't ask about if there are more scans yet or what the booster
  24. pull ratios are, we don't know.
  25. WIXOSS is short for "Wish Across", take that as you will.
  26.
  27. What is the game about?
  28. WIXOSS features an avatar that the player controls called a LRIG.
  29. The LRIG is central to WIXOSS' gameplay. The player must 'Grow' the LRIG steadily,
  30. which will give the player access to use higher level spells and creatures (SIGNIs).
  31. The objective of the game is to penetrate through the other player's Life Cloth,
  32. then finish them off with a final attacking blow. Players will summon SIGNIs in order
  33. to do so, as well as defend themselves from oncoming attacks.
  34.
  35. Resources that are (generally) extraneous from other card games
  36. include the EnerZone, the Life Cloth, and the LRIG Deck.
  37.
  38. What are the colors? What do they represent?
  39. Colors are probably the largest archetypes in WIXOSS currently.
  40. There are 5 in total, only 4 whose characteristics are known.
  41. Every card has a color, or is Colorless.
  42. >Red specializes in banshing your opponents monster
  43. >Blue specializes in drawing cards and discarding your opponents
  44. >Green specializes on building Ener and have special Ener related Abilities.
  45. >White specializes in searching, bouncing, and negating attacks
  46. >Black is UNKNOWN
  47.
  48. What is the EnerZone?
  49. EnerZone contains Main Deck cards that were banished, crashed, or were otherwise
  50. sent there. These cards are used by the player to pay the cost of certain Spells,
  51. Arts, and Abilities. The costs are specific as to what color is needed to pay.
  52. These specifications range from the 5 colors, to colorless, and [MultiEner] for now.
  53.
  54. What can pay colorless energy? What is [MultiEner]?
  55. Colorless energy costs may be paid with cards of any color, including colorless cards.
  56. [MultiEner] is a special property; cards with [MultiEner] property may be used to pay
  57. any cost, color-specific or not.
  58.
  59. What is banished? What happens when SIGNIs battle?
  60. Banished means the SIGNI is sent from the field to the EnerZone. Battling and
  61. successfully trumping an opposing SIGNI is one way to banish their card.
  62. When SIGNIs battle, the power is calculated between the two. When a SIGNI attacks,
  63. if its power is less than or equal to the opposing SIGNI, both cards remain on the
  64. field. Otherwise, the opposing SIGNI of lesser power is banished from the field.
  65.
  66. How many cards in a deck? How many copies of a card can I play?
  67. There are two decks:
  68. LRIG Deck (White Deck, size 10) is something like an extra deck.
  69. It contains higher-level versions of your LRIG, as well as Arts that
  70. the player may use according to the Timing listed. It is always viewable
  71. by the player. The LRIG deck must have at least one level 0 LRIG.
  72.
  73. Main Deck (Black Deck, size 40) contains Spells and SIGNIs. This is
  74. what the player draws from.
  75. You may play up to 4 cards maximum of the same name.
  76. The Main Deck must only contain 20 cards with Life Burst effects.
  77.
  78. What is Life Burst?
  79. Life Bursts are abilities that trigger when a Life Cloth is crashed (takes damage).
  80. They are denoted by a small symbol on the bottom of Main Deck cards, and have
  81. specifications as to what they do.
  82. When a Life Cloth is crashed, the card removed (representing damage taken) is moved
  83. to a Check Zone face-up. This is where the player may activate the Life Burst effect.
  84. If the player activates the effect, the effect must resolve. Afterward, the card is
  85. moved to the EnerZone.
  86.
  87. What is Guard?
  88. Guards are specific abilities reserved for specially marked Main Deck cards, similar
  89. to how Life Burst is symbolized. When an opposing LRIG attacks, the opposing player
  90. has a window of opportunity to discard a Guard card. This blocks the attack, leaving
  91. the player unharmed from the LRIG's attack. This mechanic is the same as to how SIGNIs
  92. guard attacks made by opposing SIGNIs so as to protect the Life Cloth/Player.
  93. Cards may have a Guard icon and a Life Burst icon at the same time.
  94.
  95. What happens when a player decks out?
  96. The player will shuffle his Trash pile, REMOVE (not crash) to EnerZone one Life Cloth
  97. and keep playing. Arts are placed in a separate LRIG Trash pile, so there
  98. is no mixing between the two. You do not lose if you have no Life Cloth to remove.
  99.

  101. -- Translation of WIXOSS Rulebook Vol. 1
  102.
  103. http://www.takaratomy.co.jp/products/wixoss/column/play_140314/
  104.
  105. You have two decks, Black and White. Your White deck holds your LRIG and Arts cards, and your Black deck holds SIGNI and Spells.
  106.
  107. You may have a maximum of 10 White cards. Though it's called a "deck", you don't draw from it. You may look at your LRIG deck at any point you wish without showing your opponent.
  108.
  109. You must have exactly 40 Black cards, of which no more than 20 may have the Life Burst ability. This is the deck that is shuffled and you draw from.
  110.
  111. Using both the free control of the LRIG deck and the randomness of the SIGNI deck, aim to win.
  112.
  113. Win Condition: Deplete all 7 of your opponent's Life Cloth cards and stike the final blow!
  114.
  115. When a card is placed in the Check Zone from the Life Cloth, check if it has a Burst Mark (a six sided star at the bottom). If it does, you may use it's effect. This is your chance for a turnabout!
  116.
  117. >Up Phase
  118. In WIXOSS, the tapped/untapped conditions are called "Down" and "Up" respectively
  119.
  120. >Enephase
  121. Move a card from your hand or the SIGNI Zone to the Enerzone. You may skip this phase
  122.
  123. >Grow Phase
  124. This Phase is unique to WIXOSS!
  125. You may level up your LRIG with a card from the LRIG deck. However, you must pay the Grow Cost. This often has a color requirement. Move cards from the Enerzone to the Trash to pay the cost.
  126.
  127. >Main Phase
  128. You may summon SIGNI, cast Spells, or use Arts
  129.
  130. >SIGNI
  131. There is no cost to summon SIGNI. You can place cards of any color but they must be [equal to(?) or] below the level of your current LRIG.
  132. Each LRIG has a limit number under its level. The total level of your SIGNI Power cannot exceed this limit. For example, if your level 4 LRIG has a limit of 11, then you may only play 4, 4, 3 SIGNI cards (as in, you may NOT play three level 4 SIGNI). The stronger your LRIG's power is, the lower it's limit is.
  133.
  134. >Spells
  135. Play spells from your hand. The cost is written in the upper left corner, and you pay the same way as you normally Grow.
  136.
  137. >Arts
  138. You may play cards from your LRIG deck that have the phrase "Main Phase". Again, pay the cost in the same way as Grow (Trash cards from Enerzone). The three types of Arts are "Main Phase", "Attack Phase", and "Spell Cut-in". The latter two are used during the opponent's turn.
  139. Because you can choose the cards in your LRIG deck, one strategy is to have only up to level 2 LRIG and 7 Arts cards. Choose carefully!
  140.
  141. >Attack Phase
  142. Attack with your SIGNI before using your LRIG. This allows for a maximum of 4 attacks per turn. There is no downside to attacking with all your cards (depending on the game)(TL Note: This means that you don't have to pay for each attack or anything, and it doesn't matter if your cards are Up or Down during your opponent's turn)
  143.
  144. >SIGNI attack
  145. You attempt to attack the opponent's LRIG (Life Cloth is considered part of the LRIG). If there is an opposing SIGNI, they will battle. If your Power is higher, they are Banished to the Enerzone. Even if your Power is lower, your card does not get Banished.
  146. Remember, the cards aren't destroyed, they're Banished!
  147.
  148. >LRIG attack
  149. These attacks ignore enemy SIGNI. However, if the opponent Trashes a card with the "Guard" phrase, the attack is nullified.
  150.
  151. >Crashes and Life Cloth
  152. When a card is Crashed, place it in the Check zone before the Enerzone. If that card has a Burst Mark, you may use its ability.
  153. For example, you may place a card from your deck into the Enerzone. You may also draw cards, Down the opponent's SIGNI, or return cards to the owner's hand.
  154.
  155. >Turn End
  156. If you did not meet the win condition, then your turn ends and the opponent gets to go.
  157.
  158. >End notes
  159. What cards you put in your LRIG deck and how you Grow, what Arts you use, what cards end up in the Life Cloth, and how many cards to use. Deciding exactly how to build your deck. WIXOSS has an endless number of play possibilities, so please pick your favorite LRIG and SIGNI and have fun playing!

  161. -- TRANSLATION OF CAPTIONS IN LINKED VIDEO
  162. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dAameBJIf8o
  163. 1) Place a level 1 LRIG in the LRIG zone, and the LRIG deck in the correct place
  164. 2) Decide who goes first with rock-paper-scissors
  165. 3) Draw 5 cards from the main deck
  166. *** You may return any number of to the cards before beginning. Shuffle and draw the same amount
  167. 4) Place 7 cards from the top of your deck in the Life Cloth
  168. 5) Flip your level 0 LRIG card, "Open", and begin the game
  169. >Draw Phase
  170. First player draws one card. Every turn thereafter draw two cards
  171. >Enerphase
  172. You may place one card from your hand in the Enezone
  173. >Grow phase
  174. If you pay the appropriate cost, you may increase the level of your LRIG by 1 (It looks like you search the LRIG deck and pick whatever card you want)
  175. >Main phase
  176. Place SIGNIs or cast Spells or Arts
  177. You may not attack in the very first turn of the game (though whoever goes second may)
  178.
  179. Place Spells you use in the Trash
  180. You may use shiguri(? might be error in video for SIGNI) or LRIG powers in the main phase
  181.
  182. >Attack Phase
  183. SIGNIs attack the opponent's SIGNI only if it is directly in front. Otherwise attack passes and Crashes one of opponents Life Cloth (move card in Life Cloth to Enezone)(Also, they don't say this, but you put the Crashed cards in the Check Zone to see if anything happens first)
  184. If the Crashed cards have a Life Burst, you may use its effect
  185. If a LRIG attacks, you may discard a card from your hand that has the effect "Card Power" to negate the attack (Trash afterwards)
  186.
  187. >Grow Phase
  188. You may Trash cards from the Enezone to pay the cost of Grow
  189.
  190. >Attack Phase
  191. If your attacking SIGNI is across from an enemy SIGNI, they will do battle
  192. If your Power (i.e. attack power) is higher than the opponent's, then the opposing SIGNI is Banished (sent to Enezone)
  193.
  194. >Up Phase
  195. Basically the untap phase. Put all of your cards upright. This occurs before the Draw Phase.
  196.
  197. >Main Phase
  198. Any Arts (these are in your white deck) that say "Main Phase" may be used during this phase
  199.
  200. >Enerphase
  201. You may Enercharge: move your own SIGNI into the Enezone
  202.
  203. >Attack Phase
  204. Any Arts cards that have the phrase "Attack Phase" on them may be used at the start of your opponent's Attack Phase
  205. Here, an Arts that makes one of your opponent's SIGNI or LRIG cards unable to attack was used
  206. If you are able to attack when your opponent's Life Cloth is exhausted, you win
  207.
  208. -- NOTES ON VIDEO AFOREMENTIONED
  209.
  210. >Tama's Level 0 -> 1 Grow is costless
  211. @1:35
  212. we can probably assume for every LRIG that this is the same.
  213.
  214. >you may not attack in the very first turn of the game
  215. then either hitoe was an exception to show how attacking earlygame is shit, or the show has skipped both their turn 1s.
  216.
  217. >Place Spells you use in trash
  218. @2:13 looks like he's placing it in SIGNI zone beforehand, either to show player that he is playing spell, or to show us that playing spells requires a free SIGNI zone
  219.
  220. >Crashed cards go to check zone to check for Life Burst effects
  221. this is cool, so lifecloth cards aren't rendered useless simply by being the first 7 cards of your deck after drawing
  222.
  223. >sphere from life cloth to EnerZone on tama's side had a Life Burst effect of placing the top card into EnerZone
  224. @ 2:35 -- adamasphere?
  225.
  226. >Tama's Level 2 Grow costs 1 Energy
  227. @3:00
  228.
  229. >Adamasphere is a costless cantrip
  230. @3:06
  231.
  232. >Hanayo's Level 2 Grow costs 1 Energy
  233. @3:58
  234.
  235. >Hanayo's Art destroys Tama's SIGNI, costs 2 Energy
  236. @4:15
  237.
  238. >Tama's Level 3 Grow costs 2 energy, Hanayo's Level 3 Grow costs 2 energy
  239. @4:48 @6:00
  240.
  241. Note: Throughout the entirety of the game, both players have avoided using cards with "LifeBurst: Topcard goes to EnerZone" effects as energy. Either it is advantageous to not use them as energy and player has free choice, or they cannot be used as energy.
  242.
  243. >Tama's player summons SIGNI and searches. Either summoning that SIGNI costs 1 Energy, or the search effect costs 1 Energy.
  244. @5:00
  245.
  246. >Life Burst: topcard goes to EnerZone is not unique to Adamasphere
  247. @6:53
  248.
  249. >Tama's Level 4 Grow costs 3 Energy, as does Hanayo's
  250. @7:15 @8:00
  251.
  252. >Hanayo's Art of nuking the entire field costs 2 Energy and 3 discards
  253. @8:15
  254.
  255. >Tama's player plays an Attack Phase Art, costs 2 Energy, and it LOOKS like it stuns a SIGNI, not sure though.
  256. @8:42
  257.
  258. Winning means attacking the other player with NO life cloth
  259. So just being able to attack doesn't win you the game, and destroying all the life cloth doesn't win you the game either.
