  1. CURRENT centaursTribulation [CCT] RIGHT NOW responded to memo.
  2. CCT: shit I have no motivation right now
  3. CCT: can't even play a video game
  4. CURRENT frozenMeatpopsicle [CFM] RIGHT NOW responded to memo.
  5. CFM: ah
  6. CFM: odd days those ones
  7. CCT: can't draw, can't program
  8. CCT: man I can't wait to get a better laptop
  9. CCT: it should make all of those things less of a hassle, heh
  10. CCT: it'll be fun to throw pc games up on my big tv in my living room
  11. CFM: yes, it is pretty glorious
  12. CCT: I'd love to play legend of grimrock but need a new laptop
  13. CFM: played wind waker in full 1080p on a 56inch plasma
  14. CCT: oh shit yeah, that emulator
  15. CFM: shit looks unreal
  16. CCT: lets see. this paycheck will mostly get chewed up by expenses
  17. CCT: maybe I'll start shopping in two more weeks
  18. CFM: hmm
  19. CFM: homestrife should look real nice on a big screen
  20. CCT: yeah, it'll help with development too
  21. CCT: a computer that can actually process
  22. CFM: better than most 360/ps3 games, in that the resolution will actually be 1080
  23. CCT: I like our "do computers until next gen" plan
  24. CCT: it is good plan
  25. CFM: indeed
  26. CRS ceased responding to memo.
  27. CFM: with the trouble skullgirls had squeezing into the hardware limitations, it'd be porbably more difficult for us
  28. CCT: yeah
  29. CFM: so whats your take on jack?
  30. CFM: referencing the ot thread
  31. CCT: he's a teleporting furry
  32. CFM: well, chyea...
  33. CCT: I dunno I'm not super excited about him
  34. CFM: fair enough
  35. CCT: green sun meter sounds cool though
  36. CFM: yea, i cant remember who come up with it
  37. CFM: either way i think it fits perfectly
  38. CCT: somebody talked about potential mobility disparity between characters
  39. CCT: that is something we need to be careful of. but I don't think we have anybody ultra-slow
  40. CCT: so hopefully it won't be an isssue
  41. CFM: yea, shouldnt be
  42. CCT: slowest character is equius and/or gamzee
  43. CFM: yea, and even then not that far below average
  44. CCT: but equius isn't SLOW slow and gamzee is going to be a weird teleporter so technically not slow
  45. CFM: wheel!tavros would probably be slow
  46. CCT: unless we gave him the rocket chair
  47. CFM: i can kinda see aradia being on the slow side as well, but i dunno
  48. CCT: I kinda feel like the characters are reflecting their earlier times in sburb
  49. CCT: which would mean tavros would be crippled
  50. CFM: most will be, yes
  51. CFM: most of the trolls didnt really change much from the start of their session anyway
  52. CCT: of course going by this logic, aradia is kinda fiddly. since the moment she became a robot, she mauled vriska, who then went god tier
  53. CCT: and our vriska for this game isn't god tier
  54. CCT: so its like we're reflecting one very small slice of time, heh
  55. CFM: yea, that was the probelm with vriska
  56. CFM: i think we made the right choice though
  57. CCT: yeah me too
  58. CCT: the charactesr are better for it
  59. CCT: like with john we were getting kinda torn in two directions when we were making him god tier
  60. CFM: just didnt make sense to have her temporarily turn god tier, then ancesteral awakening screwed everything up
  61. CFM: yea
  62. CCT: like we couldn't decide between goofy physical shenanigans, and wind powers
  63. CFM: yea, its much better design wise to separate god tier to separate characters
  64. CCT: yeah. god tier john in my head is way different nw
  65. CCT: now*
  66. CFM: definitely
  67. CFM: vriska is the only tricky one in that apart from her complete control of luck, she didnt change much at all
  68. CCT: yeah
  69. CCT: of course, she kinda lost some of that control I think
  70. CFM: i imagine rose dave and jade will be quite different too
  71. CFM: oh?
  72. CCT: well, she doesn't have the luck steal anymore
  73. CFM: oh, yea, thought you meant in the comic
  74. CCT: so she can't just grab meter whenever, or put weird "bad luck" debuffs on people
  75. CFM: yea, all she lost was that and the god tier transformation
  76. CFM: ffo*
  77. CCT: I think a god tier version of her now, would have a lot more selective control over her chance-based attacks
  78. CCT: to the point where they're barely even chance based
  79. CCT: she just flat-out spends meter to do what she wants
  80. CFM: yea, a lot more dice based stuff
  81. CFM: as in, more variety in weapons since she can summon whatever she wants
  82. CCT: like, you do the dice special, and then do a second input to pick whatever you want, assuming you have the meter for it
  83. CCT: fuck I don't even know what rose and dave would be like
  84. CCT: jade at least we can imagine some serious spacial control
  85. CFM: i see god tier vriska like this: http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v194/BwdYeti/Homestrife/Anim%20Plans/Vriskanormals-2.gif
  86. CFM: i see rose being a lot like terezi at the moment
  87. CFM: but with magic
  88. CCT: oh I see
  89. CCT: yeah that is pretty cool
  90. CFM: dave i see abusing the hell out of time clones
  91. CCT: also yeah I can't think of what else to do with rose
  92. CFM: jade will probably be similar to jack i guess
  93. CCT: yeah
  94. CCT: then there's aradia. she's just have huge control over immediate time
  95. CCT: speeding up, slowing down, and freezing
  96. CFM: im seeing her as a support kind of character
  97. CFM: yea
  98. CCT: ... reversing?
  99. CCT: that'd be funny
  100. CFM: lots of time stasus
  101. CCT: yeah. basically more of what the Fear No Anvil hints at
  102. CFM: that would be, though somewhat tricky to program
  103. CCT: indeed. I'd have to save previous states and shit
  104. CCT: for everyone at all times
  105. CFM: yea
  106. CFM: a lot of data to track
  107. CFM: be worse online
  108. CCT: maybe she just rewinds herself
  109. CCT: I dunno
  110. CFM: if you're adding replays as a feature, the stuff would be there already
  111. CCT: even in games with replays you typically can't rewind
  112. CFM: true, but that data would be there
  113. CCT: all it really does is run through a series of input commands
  114. CFM: oh right, hmm
  115. CFM: yea, while it would be cool, i think reversing time is probably too much of a hassle to implement at this point
  116. CCT: well, we are talking about a far future point here
  117. CCT: since this is god tier and all
  118. CFM: yea, of course
  119. CFM: but even still, i think the core would have to be there to begin with
  120. CCT: well, one thing to consider
  121. CCT: I've been recently thinking about how I might have to implement scripting
  122. CCT: considering all the weird things every individual attack and projectile might do
  123. CCT: and the fact that I want all of this to be designable through an editor
  124. CFM: true
  125. CFM: but something as complex as recording all movement/frame data and then reversing it?
  126. CCT: yeah I dunno
  127. CCT: so today I was throwing down the groundwork for attack/hurtboxes
  128. CFM: cool
  129. CCT: for some reason I'm putting it in physics objects, when I could just as easily put it in terrain objects (which physics objects inherit from)
  130. CCT: meaning terrain objects could easily do or take damage
  131. CCT: which is completely separate from doing actual physics
  132. CAP: spiked floor.
  133. CCT: yeah, of course
  134. CCT: I mean I know we'll need to have stage hazards
  135. CCT: I was kinda thinking maybe they'd just be physics objects that count as terrain but that's dumb
  136. CCT: I was tying up physics and attacks in my head earlier, I guess
  137. CFM: wouldnt it just be neater if hit/hurt boxes were separate from terrain boxes since theres not reall physical collisions involved?
  138. CCT: well they are
  139. CFM: i know collisions still need to be calculated, what i mean is that they dont react physically, ie, not bouncing off each other etc
  140. CCT: yeah that's the idea already
  141. CCT: nevermind I'm just saying confusing things
  142. CCT: one thing I will say though
  143. CFM: what you mean is adding a terrain flag that would start calculating the physicalness of the box?
  144. CCT: what?
  145. CCT: oh, yeah
  146. CCT: right now I have a flag on terrain and physics objects that determines whether or not it counts as terrain
  147. CFM: ah k
  148. CFM: that makes sense
  149. CFM: just a single multi purpose box
  150. CCT: if its true, then it doesn't move or have physics interactions
  151. CCT: its like
  152. CCT: both terrain and non terrain objects have terrain boxes
  153. CCT: the flag determines how they're used
  154. CCT: if its terrain, it passively sits there
  155. CFM: yea
  156. CCT: if its not terrain, it does collision detection between its own terrain boxes, and the terrain boxes of terrain-flagged objects
  157. CFM: what about something like one way, or possibly destructable boxes?
  158. CCT: well we need one-way terrain to have jump-through platforms, so that's a must
  159. CCT: but yeah, I'm thinking I'll just ditch the terrain flag
  160. CCT: and have it so terrain objects are always counted as terrain and non-terrain objects always aren't
  161. CFM: k
  162. CCT: and then make it so terrain can have attack and hurt boxes
  163. CFM: one little nuance i want to bring up regarding that
  164. CCT: which means it can do damage, or be damaged (and destroyed)
  165. CFM: single direction hitboxes
  166. CCT: what would that be
  167. CFM: for instance, spikes only damaging if you actually landing on them
  168. CCT: oh. well that could simply check if your airborn or not
  169. CFM: ie. hitting the actual pointy bits
  170. CCT: yeah I get what you mean
  171. CCT: but honestly that feels like more fidelity than a fighting game needs
  172. CFM: i think i came up with a solution while typing that anyway
  173. CFM: give spikes a regular terrain box, then adding a smaller damage box at the tip of the spikes
  174. CCT: oh, so you just can't move through them from the sides
  175. CCT: yeah in that case that would word
  176. CCT: work
  177. CFM: always bugs me when you hit spikes from the side but clearly should not be taking damage
  178. CFM: but yea
  179. CCT: heh
  180. CCT: so, like sonic the hedgehog spikes
  181. CFM: yea
  182. CAP: or I wanna be the guy.
  183. CCT: there's something in IWBTG that doesn't kill you?
  184. CCT: heavens
  185. CAP: there are plenty of safe things. like the ground, the air, and... um... uh...
  186. CFM: i imagine the ground isnt always safe either
  187. CCT: I'm pretty certain it isn't
  188. CAP: there is actually no point in which the ground directally kills you.
  189. CAP: there are a few cases where the ground will move to reveal spikes, but thats about it.
  190. CCT: it never rises up and smashes you?
  191. CAP: never.
  192. CCT: surprising
  193. CAP: I know.
  194. CFM: something has done that though, i guess just no iwbtg
  195. CAP: Going back to homestrife, will there be scratch damage?
  196. CCT: doc scratch won't be playable
  197. -- CURRENT centaursTribulation [CCT] rimshot --
  198. CAP: me/ groans
  199. -- CURRENT archivePeruser [CAP] groans --
  200. CCT: but yes I believe there will be
  201. CCT: though one caveat I'd like to implement is that it can't KO
  202. CAP: then a possible idea: have terezi take less scratch damage than other players.
  203. CCT: so if you block you can't get knocked below 1 point of health
  204. CCT: and no I don't think we'll do that
  205. CCT: its too weirdly out of the ordinary, system-wise
  206. CAP: understandable.
  207. CCT: unless we were to vary the amount of shave damage from character to character
  208. CCT: which I don't think we'll be doing
  209. CAP: although it always seems weird when everyone takes the same scratch damage, even when one is using their arms and another is using a shield.
  210. CCT: though it is kind of an interesting idea. like, it'd make sense that, say, equius would take more shave damage since he doesn't have a weapon or energy barrier or whatever else to defend with
  211. CCT: it'd definitely make certain characters feel more "naked" than others
  212. CCT: maybe its something to consider. could add in some interesting balancing considerations
  213. CCT: and encourange dodging/reversals/counters/super armor even more
  214. CCT: "best defense is a good offense" and all that
  215. CAP: it would certainly help force equius players to stay on the offencive.
  216. CCT: well, equius is also all about taking hits and not giving a shit
  217. CCT: he'd have the health to offset it
  218. CCT: another character without much to block with would be Nepeta
  219. CCT: maybe also rose, sollux, and aradia assuming they can't just put up some kind of magic/psychic barrier
  220. CCT: maybe jade and eridan since blocking with a gun is kinda weird
  221. CCT: oh and vriska
  222. CAP: aradia would probably take low damage as she's made of metal though.
  223. CCT: or just have plenty of health
  224. CCT: there's not really raw "defense" in this game
  225. CCT: just more or less health
  226. CAP: I was talking about scratch damage.
  227. CAP: but aradia having more health does make sense.
  228. CCT: well, technically you're still hitting her body just the same as if she wasn't blocking
  229. CCT: so I'd say she'd take more scratch damage
  230. CCT: but have health to offset it
  231. CAP: tav might take more, as blocking with a lance while sitting down sounds rather awkward.
  232. CCT: heh, probably
  233. CCT: a lance is a pretty shitty weapon really
  234. CAP: quite.
  235. CFM: hmm
  236. CFM: one thing i will say: dont count scratch out as a playable character
  237. CCT: I kinda imagine a balanced version of him just doing the fisticuffs thing he did to Spades
  238. CCT: almost like a classic SF shoto character
  239. CFM: id also say hed be the slowest character
  240. CFM: but yea, we might round the roster to an even number
  241. CFM: and if any character is gonna be added, itll be scratch or hussie himself
  242. CFM: big ifs at the moment though
  243. CCT: why would scratch be slow?
  244. CFM: hes got all the time in the world, so for some reason i imagine him just casually strolling around
  245. CAP: It's hard to imagine scratch running.
  246. CCT: yeah, its kinda like gamzee
  247. CCT: I guess he'd be Slayer, lol
  248. CCT: slayer is to this day the classiest fighting game character
  249. CCT: sorry dudley
  250. CFM: ah, him
  251. CFM: i knew he was from guilty gear, just couldnt put a face
  252. CCT: he even has a classy theme
  253. CCT: but yeah ever since he beat the shit out of Spades, I kinda imagine him being the only character with a really CLASSIC shoryuken
  254. CCT: rising uppercut
  255. CCT: wreathed in green flame
  256. CFM: yea
  257. CCT: thing is, would he teleport or something? he need some way to be mobile
  258. CFM: even though he only did a regular uppercut, i can definitely see him doing a rising one
  259. CCT: kinda feel like thats getting reduntant with gamzee though
  260. CFM: he is definitely known for teleporting
  261. CCT: slow guy with teleport dashes
  262. CFM: but itd be a move as well
  263. CFM: he have flash step and a teleport move
  264. CFM: or maybe not have a dash at all, that would be different
