  1. When I first read about the announcement of the iPhone 5, I questioned it as I had owned the iPhone 4 for the previous 2 years and had a so-so experience with it. I promised myself that I would give Android the chance it deserved and for even a good week after the announcement of the iPhone 5, I believed I would get the Galaxy S3 or the rumored Nexus 4 (yet to be announced). Then later that week, I watched the video Apple had posted onto their Youtube channel, showing off the new iPhone and its best features. That video changed my view quite it bit. While I still wasn’t sure if I would stay on the Apple bandwagon for another trip, I definitely considered it. It wasn’t until a week before my contract expired, that I headed to the local Verizon store to check out the possible choices I had. First thing I see when I walk in, iPhone 5. It looked beautiful. I slowly walked up to it, in disbelief how gorgeous it looked and how much I desired owning one. I spent a good half hour testing out the new features, Siri (I owned an iPhone 4), 3D Maps, 4-inch screen, and all new aluminum backing. I spent a total of 5 minutes looking at the Galaxy S3 and decided I would join Apple for another 2 years.

  3. After receiving the device through the mail, approximately a week later, I spent the entire weekend playing around with it. The one thing that bothered me though was the battery life. I don’t expect to keep a live battery for a week while browsing the internet on 3G (4G is not available in my neighborhood), playing games, and constantly asking Siri “Where can I hide dead bodies?” But I do expect to keep it most of the day, now while at school, I’m not constantly using it and it will last through the night. On a weekend, I usually have to charge it by the early evening which surprised me at first as I expected it to be a bit longer of a battery life. You eventually get over it and get into the habit of carrying around your charger everywhere and rarely does it die on me. A great feature that definitely deserves the spotlight, is the combination between the 4-inch screen and stunning, spectacular, retina display. I think it has to be one of the most gorgeous displays on any electronic device I have ever seen. The colors on this device are very bright and compelling. I sometimes like to search high resolution images on my phone and look at them through the retina display. It’s truly unbelievable.

  5. Now we can’t forget whats powering this baby, a lightning fast, A6 chip. The phone all together takes maybe 15 seconds to boot up total and games and other applications load amazingly fast. I have never once encountered lag on any game or application I have played. Now there is the time to time app crash, but that is usually a bug or flaw in the application itself. Now after all the good, we can’t forget some of the flaws of this device. First, for many apps still, they are not optimized foer the 4-inch display. Most apps are now finally coming around. But some smaller apps, still feature the 3.5 inch display, which can be annoying if being used on a white model of the phone. Many reports came in around the release of the iPhone 5, black model, coming out of the box with scratches or chips in the black paint around the bezel, which for what you pay for this device, can be very disappointing or annoying. I have heard that if this does happen to you, you can return the device within 14 days of receiving it. I haven’t heard of any people having this recently and the blame was most likely caused to the Foxconn worker, factory where the iPhones are made, being on strike and being careless if the manufacturing of the device. The last and final flaw, that bothers me is new lightning connector. While this seems great because of the size and use of both sides to plug it in, this means that all your old devices must be thrown away or you muse buy the connector to use all these which costs $20 each, so every third-party device you have would cost $20 to use with your iPhone 5. Eventually new, products will be released especially since it’s the holidays, that will allow your device to be used with old connectors. This is all I have to say about the iPhone 5. Overall I rate this phone a 4/5 apple logos as it meets all the standards and raises the bar of the previous iPhones. Hope you enjoyed reading this, /r/apple.
