- I want you to take a look at this picture. This is an image Raymangame tweeted on twitter, for #TBT (Throwback Thursday). You might notice it is clearly
- a Raymanified version of Smash... We can even see the presence of characters in this (like Barbara).. and the character portaits at the bottom.
- At first glance this might not seem like much, but you have to look at the circumstances of this image. Why would Ubisoft go this route in supporting
- their character for the game? Why not just go right out and say they support Rayman in the game? Why do it in such a sly way?.. In fact... it kind of
- reminds you of a certain developer we all know.. doesn't it?
- See, I have a theory. If true, it could shake the entire point of the ballot...
- What if, Nintendo isn't planning on just implementing single characters.. but entire DLC packs? (Like with Rayman, Globox, and Barbara.. their trophies
- are already weirdly in the game, now that I think about it)
- Now I know what you're thinking! "Their third party characters! Why would they do something like that? Plus, there's only one character per company.."
- Well, I believe I have an explanation for all of this, so just hear me out..
- Lets not forget though, that this stuff is most likely "Paid" DLC... it could be very likely that Ubisoft and Nintendo came to some agreement to allow
- for more stuff to be put in. They have worked with each other in the past on Wii U stuff after all.. It could be some kinda profit split, or some sort
- of agreement to share the profits from the said DLC purchased.
- This could have ESPECIALLY been sparked by the likes of the Rayman leak, where both companies got to witness first hand just how much fans want Ray in
- the game.. (Ubisoft was even going to make a statement on it before Artsy came out a day before it was supposed to happen, and mention it was him) what
- better way to take advantage on such an opportunity..
- How do we know this isn't why the ballot was opened in the first place? We have all of these companies jumping in trying to get their characters in..If
- this is the case, Nintendo could easily be trying to set up similar hypothetical agreements... As the allure of profit could easily persuade both parties
- to a partnership in all of this.. as most of the characters being supported are VERY popular, and could net in a ton of profit for both parties involved.
- Lets also not forget about the possibility of extra DLC packs emerging for the other 3rd party characters already in the game as well. Even with Sonic and
- Megaman in the game, similar agreements could be made with the other companies to get more in.. (Like Tails and Knuckles to accompany Sonic, for example.
- (Dunno about Pac-man.. only thing I could think off on that end would be Mrs. Pac-man, and she seems more like she would be clone material..)
- All of this was also before the concept of such DLC was even considered for Smash as well.. Sakurai probably didn't even take any of that into account
- before the whole Ray leak fiasco, and... what ever Iwata and Sakurai probably talked about in that meeting they had.. where they discussed that smash
- ballot to begin with. It probably would have taken awhile for Sakurai to be convinced that the DLC packs could be worth it... (and the ray fans have shown
- it most certainly would be)
- I mean, getting in smash in general is one thing, as it seems like a fairly simple matter. But in terms of Paid DLC, its an entire different ballgame..
- The possibilities for agreements are much easier, since the packs would be purchased multiple times, generating profits for both parties..
- Just to add to this, it also gives Nintendo to have another method of getting profit for the game, even further into it's lifetime..
- I mean, I'm not gonna lie. It's a stretch. A very large stretch at that.. but it is very well possible.. only time will tell I suppose.
