- decended from the former captain of the Dragon Trial on Poni Island
- from Poni Island
- one of the things associated with their family is acquiring a dragon pokemon for a starter; generally done as a "trial by fire" kind of thing based on where you are (you literally go into an area teeming with Pokemon [dragon types, usually] and try and befriend one and that's how you get your starter)
- starter is Jangmo-o, nickname is Koali
- very brave and headstrong; stubborn; kind of reckless and tends to charge in without thinking
- likes Pokemon more than people and somehow gets along better with them; flies into a rage when he sees Pokemon being mistreated
- aspires to be a trial captain, wants to take over the dragon trial on Poni Island
- distantly related to Hapu (common ancestor)
