A: You know , before I would probably argue with you that Philosophy decreases in value when it is taught. For the actual understanding comes when you discover ideas yourself.

More knowledge is ALWAYS better in my opinion.
You're a more well-rounded person if you have multiple perspectives and sources of information to draw upon.
Avoiding knowledge so you can learn it all by yourself is very closed-minded IMO.

That's why religious texts are not good sources of information.
They are "infallible" and forever outdated.

I always want to re-invent the wheel when I program.
Instead of building on an existing library that does just what I want.
It's not a bad metaphor.
In fact, it's a very common one in the US.
