I hate driving tanks in BF1, but overall for close combat the Heavy tank is the best as it can take the most punishment, has the most machineguns covering 360º around it and it's tracks are almost impossible to disable.
The Light Support Tank is actually the worst of all light tanks as it's laughably small ammo pool severely limits it, if you want to fight infantry use the flanker tank, general purpose fighting use the mortar tank instead. Mortar tank has a huge advantage over everything except arty truck in operations and rush, in conquest you're better off using the flanker tank in maps like Amiens, St Quentin or Monte Grappa.

I don't like Landships all that much because your firepower as a driver is laughable at best, pathetic at worst, even when using the tankgewher variant, Only use landship with a squad of coordinated players on VOIP.

Learn how to minimally expose yourself by using cover and peaking for killshots instead of being out in the open, as when you do that you're anti tank rifle and sniper fire bait.

Other than that, just learn how to spot infantry and learn to priorities targets, use third person cam regularly to scout your surroundings and make sure nobody sneaks up on you, etc.

I'm not a fan of the arty truck, but I'd say it's overall better than the mortar tank at doing it's job, which is sad considering how strong the light mortar tank was in the beta but whatever.
