  1. >Day...you've lost count in Equestria
  2. >You've been here a long time
  3. >Far, far too long
  4. >You're old and tired
  5. >Time hasn't been kind to your health.
  6. >Equestrian medicine was geared towards ponies, not humans, and even though they could use magic, you still aged as you normally would
  7. >Even Celestia could do nothing for you; and as your cells followed their programming, dividing, functioning, dividing, and dying, the errors in your DNA continued to pile up and the aging process continued naturally
  8. >You still could perform easy tasks that required more brains than muscle
  9. >You had become something of a tinker in your time in Equestria; you had a successful shop for many years as Ponyville's mechanic and machinist
  10. >But that didn't matter anymore; the shop had burned down years ago, and along with it, your tools
  11. >You never had the time nor inclination to rebuild
  12. >Especially not as your friends began dying of old age
  13. >Celestia rarely gave the gift of immortality
  14. >To the best of your knowledge, only she and Luna were immortal
  15. >She always were genuinely sad when one of her subjects died, however, and attended the funerals
  16. >Sometimes, if it were a pony she knew especially well, she would give a eulogy
  17. >If the pony were the bread-winner of the family, she would give the widow a pension so the family wouldn't have financial trouble
  18. >It never was easy, though, to say goodbye to a friend
  19. >The worst part was that humans had a longer lifespan than ponies
  20.
  21. >Twilight, your best friend, had passed on a decade ago
  22. >It still felt like yesterday
  23. >You were playing a card game with her, and she was winning (as usual; you often thought she was somehow using magic to cheat), and she just collapsed
  24. >The hospital said there was nothing they could do; her heart had given out because of her age
  25. >The funeral was the next day
  26. >Celestia, who looked the same as when you first met her, said a few words about her most faithful student
  27. >There wasn't a dry eye in the room; even Celestia had a few tears running down her face
  28. >When you got home, you hit the booze, hard.
  29. >The next month was a blur; you think that's where your liver problems started
  30.
  31. >And here you are, ten years later.
  32. >The card game is still on the table, unfinished and unmoved
  33. >You never had it in you to clean it up; it felt too final
  34. >You couldn't bring yourself to admit that you, Anonymous, were alone in Equestria
  35. >Just like you were when you arrived in the Everfree
  36. >You roll out of bed
  37. >Fumbling in the darkness, you find your cane and slowly hobble to your bedroom window
  38. >Light floods your room, a mist of dust floating in the rays when you open your curtains
  39. >Ponies went about their daily lives
  40. >Scootaloo, Appleboom, and Sweetie Belle had all found their cutie marks, grown up, and now had families
  41. >Appleboom was already a grandmother
  42. >You had gotten pretty close with them...until Twilight died
  43. >After she died, you just stayed inside
  44. >There was nothing for you in Ponyville anymore
  45. >You awaited death, and still do
  46. >You carefully descend your stairs and into your kitchen
  47. >It's a struggle, and you're out of breath when you reach the ground floor
  48. >And a pain surges through your left arm
  49. >Looks like today is your lucky day
  50. >It spreads to your chest
  51. >It feels like discord himself it hitting your heart with a sledgehammer on each beat
  52. >You collapse to the floor, and darkness overtakes your vision as you drift into unconsciousness
  53. >You suddenly remember everything, and your blinded eyes open in a complete understanding
  54. >You remember how you got here, and...
  55. >And...
  56. >You're falling
  57.
  58. >Fucking hell, you're falling
  59. >Blinding flash of pain
  60. >'Captain, we seem to have hit something!'
  61. >FUCK YOU BRAIN OH GOD PAIN
  62. >The system has experienced a critical error, and Mind.exe has been shut down in order to prevent further damage to the system. Press any key to continue.
  63. >[ENTER]
  64. >You wake up in a forest
  65. >Why the fuck are you in a forest?
  66. >How the fuck did you even get here?
  67. >You can't even remember what you were doing before this started
  68. >You assume you're just dreaming, that you just had a lot to drink last night
  69. >Must've been a hell of a party
  70. >You think you see a town in the distance
  71. >A...pink town?
  72. >A town is a town. Besides, beats this forest. Maybe you can take a bus home from there...wherever there is.
  73. >You enter a clearing
  74. >There are two pastel-colored horses in the middle
  75. >The yellow one looks scared out of its mind
  76. >There's a purple one...with a horn?
  77. >A sense of deja vut washes over you
