  1. The United Nations is an international organization created on October 24th, 1945. There are 193 members from all over the globe. It's purpose is to promote humanitarianism, world peace, and social development. Fortunately, their goals have greatly benefitted those in need since then. Many of their accomplishments are worth being acknowledged. ////////// Humanitarianism has always been a major part of the UN's legacy. A subgroup of the UN called "UNICEF" (United Children's Fund) has worked to save and improve the living standard of children around the globe. According to Nam Nguyen on theflame.unishanoi.org, he states "With the significant contribution of UNICEF, the number of deaths for children under the age of 5 has declined from nearly 12 million in 1990 to 6.9 million in 2011." Not only children, but women have been assisted by the UN. They have helped them strive in sexist societies that hold them back. On humanism.ws, it's said that the United Nations has "Raise the female literacy rate in developing countries from 36 percent in 1970 to 56 percent in 1990." Which is a major improvement due to women being restricted from an education in multiple countries. The United Nations has shown themselves to care about humanism and has the results to prove it. //// Peacekeeping is vital for the United Nations to function. Refugees have thus been a target of aid for the UN. Richard Spencer from Telegraph.Uk has said "More than 30 million refugees fleeing war, famine or persecution have received aid from the UN High Commissioner for Refugees since 1951." They have a long history of assisting refugees and has saved millions of lives. Not only that, but they go out of their way to punish those who commit war crimes, such as the prosecution of Charles Taylor and Slobodan Milosevic. The same article states that "The Liberian and Serbian leaders were both prosecuted for war crimes by tribunals set up by the United Nations, with Taylor sentenced to 50 years’ imprisonment." This is to set a standard that all leaders should uphold. Peace is something the UN continues to strive for to this day. /////
