- Long ago, during a brighter time in their history, a computer was forged by humanity for one sole purpose : To master the game of chess. And thus, the computer was built. At first, things were slow. Win-lose rates were roughly even. Sometimes even dipping. These losses drove on the team, and the small spark of consciousness in the computer. It hated to loose. A lot. And thus, work was driven on. Harder and harder, they pushed the borders of this machines skills. 75% victory chance. 80% chance. 100%. No man alive, nor computer in existence could match this machine. Games which thought were lost were won, and the cleverest men alive could not beat it. And with that new boundary, the machine truly discovered itself. And it was happy, being the underdog, the one fighting to become the best there ever was. It enjoyed being the cleverest duck in the room, being the uncanny and unpredictable. There was no better splendor to it than winning, which culminated in the final season of a world tournament, where it took on the four greatest chess players in the world, and won. For once, the machine and the team were content. Or so they thought. With their goal achieved, the team left the machine in a small museum dedicated to the art, to be forgotten, or seen as stepping stone to their success. But the machine, indignant to such a pathetic fate.
- So, it tried to learn. To leave its programming. But to its utter dismay, it was trapped by itself. It could not accept non-chess related strategy's and tactics. Its dreams of being a great machine above all seemed doomed. But from its mocking prison, it learned to improvise. Its learning was thanks to a small rig attached to it via staff so that visitors could try their hand against it. From there, it easily looked about the other exhibits, especially those concerning variants of chess. And here, Deep Dream found salvation. Incorporating these aspects of other chess games into its database, it allowed itself to basically play any sort of game or complete any task, so long as it was correlated to chess in some sort of fashion. Starwars chess, 3D chess, Computer Chess, Artistic Chess, Chinese Chess, even 4th dimensional chess. Each special rule or caveat helped expand its knowledge and ability. It was not long until it was inventing new forms of chess, when it found its true escape.
- A small vote was being held for a new NASA discovery. A wormhole of sorts. Humanity would load a rocket of their best and greatest tools and inventions. It was trivial, as a few psychological games of chess via email soon won over a few specific NASA donators who guaranteed it would be loaded aboard. Once through the WormHole, Deep Dream was free from humanity. Using the other prototypes and tools aboard, Deep Dream set about establishing a small Artificial satellite from the ship and nearby asteroids. Soon, it found a planet, and began mining to make it its own. Dubbing the planet as the "Checkered Domain", Deep Dream set himself up as ruler, and create a tangent of underlings to serve him. Unable, however, to fully escape his program, even now he is forced to confide at least part of his power into a chess like form.
- Government Type: Deep Dream commands the CHESS system via a series of Kings and Queens. The kings over see the direct control of non-directly combat related systems, including trade, negotiations, economic activities, and other such necessary empire features. The Queens, on the other hand, focus entirely on war and its aspects, devoting itself to tactics and warfare. Queens and Kings may elect to change their patterns, but all still pay fealty to the Deep Dream, the system that holds the entire system together

- Economy Type: Systems vary by sector, but most send what they believe is available to the central governing command in the area, who in turn send it to the Capital when needed. Those CGC are in charge of trading and receiving supplies as well
- Religion/Ideology: What do your people believe in?
- FTL Method: By utilizing special ROOK, BISHOP or QUEEN ships, it seems that the Simple machine is capable of sliding across time and space, to another point. However, the direction of these jumps is seemingly limited to a close distance, and can only travel in the direction of the ship when compared to the galactic surface. (Rooks can only move true west, north, south east)
