  2. Guide on how to raise Pokemon to become "competitively viable".
  3. > Goals
  4. The goals for your Pokemon to be competitively viable generally look like this:
  5. 1. Have the appropriate egg moves (moves passed down only by breeding) you want, if any.
  6. 2. Have the nature and ability you want.
  7. 3. Have perfect IVs ("genes" that determine stats) in the stats that you need. Obtained by breeding.
  8. 4. Have EVs (value that measures training in specific stats) in the stats you need. Obtained by battling.
  9. 5. Leveled far enough to gain the moves you want.
  10. You will generally meet each goal within that order too. You'll be spending the most time when hatching eggs because you're basically at the mercy of the RNG but it will become easier and shorter the more you breed and have overlapping fathers. EV training and level training on the other hand will probably take ~7 minutes and ~12 minutes respectively.
  11. > Prerequisites
  12. * Beat E4 and have access to Kiloude City.
  13. * Destiny Knot: Lets children inherit 5 IVs from parents opposed to 3 IVs
  14. * Everstone: Makes children retain the nature of the holder
  15. * Talonflame with Flame Body ability in party: Lessens hatch time and can use Fly
  16.
  17.
  18. > Obtaining the base pokemon you want
  19. If you want a hidden ability (HA):
  20. - Spam the GTS with a starter asking for the mon you want. Eventually, you'll get one with the ability you desire.

  22. Getting a specific nature:
  23. 1: Get a Pokemon with Synchronize. Use it in the lead position and catch the Pokemon you want until you get it.
  24. 2: Use a Ditto with the appropriate nature equipped with an Everstone and breed it with the intended mon.
  25. > Breeding for egg moves
  26. One of the parents has to have the egg move on them. As long as they have it, it will pass onto the children.
  27. > Breeding for IVs
  28. 1. Get a mother (outputs the intended Pokemon) and a father (just a Pokemon in the same egg group). Make sure they
  29. have IVs in different spots in which they will inherit from.
  30. 2. Equip an Everstone on the mon with the intended nature. Equip a Destiny Knot on the other.
  31. 3. Put both in daycare.
  32. 4. Bike around and collect eggs from NPC
  33. 5. When the party is full (Talonflame+5 eggs), fly to Lumiose city. In the center ring, equip your bike and shove a
  34. coin under the analog stick to infinitely bike around the ring.
  35. 6. When all eggs have hatched, go to the Kiloude City Pokemon center.
  36. 7. Have stat judge (looks like ace trainer) check the IVs of the newborn Pokemon.
  37. 8. If one of the newborn Pokemon has better IVs than one of the parents, then replace the appropriate parent in the
  38. daycare with the child. Then, get a new corresponding parent that has IVs that the other parent does not have.
  39. If not, ignore this step.
  40. 9. Take undesired Pokemon out of party.
  41. 10. Repeat steps 4-9 until you end up with intended Pokemon.
  42.
  43.
  44. > EV Training
  45. Checking EVs
  46. Use the super training menu. If you want to make sure that a stat is maxed, use the bag of the stat or train in that
  47. stat. If you can't use the bag or training says you're maxed, you're maxed.

  50. Resetting EVs
  51. In the super training menu, if your Pokemon has a smily face indication, tap on the mon until it gets a reset bag. It
  52. looks completely white. Then, use it on your Pokemon and have it beat on the bag.
  53. Using a Team Flare Bag will lead to smily face too, as will a "..." indication.
  54. > Level Training
  55. 1: http://www.reddit.com/r/pokemon/comments/1otm08/fastest_postgame_training_method_easy_money_too/
  56. 2: Leave the Pokemon in the daycare. Then, go to the center ring of Lumiose city, get on your bike, and leave a coin
  57. under the analog stick so it will infinitely bike around the ring. Your Pokemon will be leveled with time.
  58. > Relearning moves
  59. 1. Teach Thief to your Talonflame.
  60. 2. Fly to Cyllage City
  61. 3. Use Old Rod on water
  62. 4. Use Thief on every Luvdisc and collect Heart Scales.
  63. 5. Fly to Dendemille Town and talk to the move relearner.
