  1. World Lore Overview
  2.
  3. Dalphine
  4.
  5. Dalphine lies far to the west. It is a slimly shaped continent that narrows into a strait in the middle. Its southern half is dotted with wild jungles, many of which are rumored to have ancient secrets and treasures lying somewhere within their hearts.
  6.
  7. Gannima
  8.
  9. Considered Dalphine’s “twin” for their close proximity and interlocking shapes, Gannima is only separated from its neighbor by the Raieth’s Strait and the Gulf of Seelie.
  10.
  11. Gannima consists of vast plains roamed by the Ronden Horse tribes, while a small desert lies behind mountains to the southeast. It is here that the mercenary nation of Ferrian keeps its base, a home to warriors and outcasts, where order is enforced by its fierce leader Khanvic Strom and his Iron Army, a mysterious force of metal warriors.
  12.
  13. Arien
  14.
  15. The Eastern Continent, Arien is the largest known landmass in Median. The continent is nicknamed the Land of Dragon, and for good reason. Not only is it known for having a vaguely dragonlike shape, it is also the native homeland of the wyvern species, and Dragons feature prominently in the local religions.
  16.
  17. Arien is currently in a state of turmoil, as the Forlorsi Empire is has embarked on a march of conquest, annexing huge swaths of land and trampling all the smaller states that stands in its way. Many have begun to fear that they may be unstoppable, and the formerly aloof northern nations have begun forming a coalition to defend themselves from the inevitable collision with the power-hungry empire.
  18.
  19. Cibrenia
  20.
  21. A continent to the South. The ancient Cibrenian Empire once controlled the entire landmass, but fractured into pieces a thousand years ago. The depths of Cibrenian soil contains the stones known as Xibrite which enhance a mage’s ability to channel their magical power.
  22.
  23. Since the fall of the empire barely a shadow of its former majesty remains, having fractured into several squabbling states ruled by mage kings and warlords that rise and fall in a state of constant flux and unrest. Despite the danger of the region travelers, merchants, and adventurers continue to come to the continent, allured by the riches held within.
  24.
  25. The Southern Isles
  26.
  27. A series of island stretching off from the southern tip of Dalphine and trailing down to the southwest. The Southern Isles are a warm region of many separate states and small kingdoms. While the islands squabble amongst themselves often, old pacts and shared heritage means they’ll snap themselves into an alliance the moment a larger threat makes itself known.
  28.
  29. Yenn
  30.
  31. In the North is the small continent of Yenn. A land with green springs and long freezing winters, in the past its people would raid and pillage the northern coast of Arien.
  32.
  33. However, they were eventually stopped by the hero Urziel the Wanderer, and have settled down into a new order. Not all accepted this though, and there remain a few tribes on its eastern coast who continue to follow the old ways.
  34.
  35. Selvis
  36.
  37. A small nation-continent, it is a prosperous center of trade thanks to being situated between the landmasses of Arien and Gennima. It and the surrounding islands are called the “Dragon’s Breath Line” as together they form a chain that begins at the “mouth” of the Arien and ends at the Limark Peninsula on the eastern coast of Gannima.
  38.
  39. Selvis’s warm climate and wealth have given the country the moniker of “The Land of Eternal Summer”, and is a common destination for travelers and sight seers. Every hundred years the grand Solar Festival is held at the city of Honem in the heart of the nation, a famous event in which visitors from all over the world come to enjoy the festivities.
  40.
  41.
  42.
  43. Monsters and the Cursed Lands
  44.
  45. While the term monster can refer to many things in the languages of man, there is a class of creature for which the term “monster” is specifically used to refer to. These beings come in many shapes and forms, with varieties such as floating eyes, mauthe doog, gargoyles, deathworms, giant spiders, and countless others. A rare few types can co-exist with man, but the majority are hostile and dangerous to the common folk.
  46.
  47. As different as they are however, these monsters share a common origin. It is the locations known as the cursed lands. While most of the lesser breeds of monsters are capable of reproducing through natural means, it is in these lands that all monster populations are born, born from the vile muck from which they crawl out to wreak havoc upon the world.
  48.
  49. The cursed lands can be found all throughout the world, and vary in size, from some being merely a few miles in diameter, to the largest regions being big enough to cover a small country. They can be identified by the dark clouds that seem to loom over them at all times, their twisted and wild terrain, and the propensity for vegetation within them to grow into strange and twisted varieties.
  50.
  51. Throughout the world there are many people who have made their living as monster hunters, and several organizations exist to combat the threats of monsters that venture out into the greater world. Most attempts at settling the cursed lands end in horrific failure, be it from the constant flow of threats, or the fact that within them lurk the worst and most powerful monsters, who rarely venture far out from their domain. This has not dissuaded the worst of criminals and bandits from attempting to use the cursed lands as havens and hideouts, being a place where the hand of the law would find it difficult to reach them.
