  4. a conversation

  6. between high-ranking Turkish officials

  9. a plan that had been devised to use a

  13.
  14. as a pretext to start a war with Syria

  16. [Speaking in Turkish]
  17.
  18. (James:) The leak of the conversation
  19. was considered sensitive enough
  20.
  21. that the government of Turkish
  22. Prime Minister Erdoğan
  23.

  63.
  64. Based on mathematical calculations,
  65.

  141.

  168. Earlier this week, BoilingFrogsPost.com
  169. editor and founder Sibel Edmonds
  170.
  171. joined me on The Corbett Report
  172.
  173. to discuss the recording
  174.
  175. and what it means geopolitically.
  176.
  177. Well, as far as what it means,
  178.
  179. I don't think it means much.
  180.
  181. As far as what we have in our hands,
  182.
  183. we really don't know.
  184.
  185. Because the four most
  186. important questions
  187.
  188. are not answered with this tape.
  189.
  190. One is, who did the recording?
  191.
  192. Which: we have a pretty good guess.
  193.
  194. What was recorded?
  195.
  196. -- and I'll get to that in a second --
  197.
  198. and why it was recorded and released;
  199.
  200. and when it was recorded;
  201.
  202. and when it was released.
  203.
  204. Well, we know when it was released;
  205.
  206. it was recorded a long time ago;
  207.
  208. and as far as who recorded this:
  209.
  210. we have a pretty good idea that it is...
  211.
  212. it's going to be Gülen; Fethullah Gülen;
  213.
  214. imam Gülen-related network insiders.
  215.
  216. The ones who have penetrated
  217. the Turkish military, Turkish police --
  218.
  219. and of course, as we can see, the
  220. office of Prime Minister [laughs]
  221.
  222. very successfully.
  223.
  224. And also... the other important thing is,
  225. with this:
  226.
  227. authentication of the tape.
  228.
  229. Now, there are two ways of
  230. authenticating --
  231.
  232. -- or there are two grounds.
  233. One is the voice.
  234.
  235. And it hasn't been authenticated;
  236.
  237. but I would say they are authentic.
  238.
  239. It's pretty obvious there.
  240.
  241. But I listened to the tape several times
  242.
  243. and I Iooked at the transcripts as well.
  244.
  245. And to me, what...
  246.
  247. -- it seems very important, here --
  248. is the transcript.
  249.
  250. And when you listen to the tape
  251.
  252. you see a lot of inconsistencies, and...
  253.
  254. Which points to: that this
  255. was not recorded during one meeting,
  256.
  257. and with those individuals present.
  258.
  259. It looks and it sounds like a patchwork.
  260.
  261. Meaning, much of these conversations
  262.
  263. were taken from various contexts,
  264.
  265. during different times,
  266.
  267. and then they were connected together
  268. and put together in this tape.
  269.
  270. And they have done a pretty shoddy
  271. job with that, obviously. [laughs]
  272.
  273. They maybe rushed it? I don't know:
  274. they haven't done a good job.
  275.
  276. But this recording and the transcript,
  277.
  278. it's not coming from one
  279. particular meeting.
  280.
  281. And it's very easy to do:
  282.
  283. when you can take sentences
  284. out of different contexts
  285.
  286. from different times and put it together,
  287.
  288. you can arrive at a totally different,
  289.
  290. whole different meaning.
  291.
  292. So that hasn't happened.
  293.
  294. But again, from looking at it...
  295.
  296. I'm not a forensic expert, but I did
  297. work for the FBI
  298.
  299. and I did do translations
  300. on tapes like this
  301.
  302. live or pre-recorded
  303.
  304. and this does not sound authentic
  305.
  306. in terms of being recorded
  307. during the same time.
  308.
  309. And as far as why it was released?
  310.
  311. Again, that is pretty obvious here:
  312.
  313. it was not released to increase
  314. public awareness
  315.
  316. or for altruistic reasons.
  317.
  318. They released this tape a few days
  319. before the local elections
  320.
  321. very highly-strategic, sensitive
  322. elections in Turkey
  323.
  324. So the intent is extremely important:
  325.
  326. to see what was the intention
  327. behind releasing these tapes
  328.
  329. -- and the intentions are not good.
  330. [laughs]
  331.
  332. Or, it's not for the public knowledge,
  333.
  334. or because there are some people
  335.
  336. who are concerned about
  337. a war with Syria.
  338.
  339. It has nothing to do with
  340. any of these reasons.
  341.
  342. The intent is pure and simple:
  343.
  344. they wanted to affect the...
  345.
  346. influence the elections result.
  347.
  348. So: that's for that.
  349.
  350. And another important thing that,
  351. for me,
  352.
  353. shows that this has been highly edited
  354.
  355. and tampered with -- the recordings:
  356.
  357. Again: I'm very familiar with discussions
  358.
  359. that take place
  360.
  361. within the diplomatic communities
  362.
  363. and various governmental entities,
  364.
  365. as part of my work with the FBI.
  366.
  367. And -- especially with Turkey --
  368.
  369. there would never, ever be
  370. such a meeting -- long meeting --
  371.
  372. on this kind of a topic
  373.
  374. without the mentioning of
  375.
  376. -- minimum of 100 times --
  377.
  378. -- at least in every other sentence --
  379.
  380. mentioning of Pentagon;
  381.
  382. NATO; the United States.
  383.
  384. Because, as we know, Turkey is
  385. part of the NATO.
  386.
  387. Turkey is a member of NATO.
  388.
  389. And of course, Turkey was stopped
  390.
  391. later in this whole process with Syria
  392.
  393. from going -- even -- at it alone.
  394.
  395. Because they were already bogged down
  396.
  397. into this whole mess with Syria.
  398.
  399. That was completely crafted
  400.
  401. by the United States, of course:
  402. Pentagon.
  403.
  404. So, there is no mention:
  405.
  406. that, itself, will tell you that
  407. that was sanitized.
  408.
  409. And the tapes were heavily sanitized.
  410.
  411. And why would they sanitize
  412.
  413. the parts that have to do
  414.
  415. with the United States and NATO,
  416.
  417. and their positions?
  418.
  419. Well, of course, that's because the actors
  420. that are involved
  421.
  422. -- that did the recording
  423. and released it:
  424.
  425. this is Fethullah Gülen,
  426.
  427. which is completely under
  428. CIA's management.
  429.
  430. Fethullah Gülen has been
  431. with Langley -- CIA --
  432.
  433. since 1997 -- has been working.
  434.
  435. It's the operation of the CIA and NATO:
  436.
  437. Gladio B, that we have spoken about.
  438.
  439. So, as we see: they are,
  440. basically, protecting their masters
  441.
  442. by sanitizing the tapes
  443.
  444. from all the information,
  445.
  446. or conversations, or points made
  447.
  448. that would have had the Pentagon,
  449.
  450. or the United States, or NATO.
  451.
  452. But I can guarantee that:
  453.
  454. there would never be a meeting like this
  455.
  456. a topic like this
  457.
  458. where you won't hear several times,

  461.
  462. "Pentagon..."
  463.
  464. "Well, NATO..."
  465.
  466. Or, particular people within the NATO.
  467.
  468. It just doesn't take place.
  469.
  470. Because... it doesn't.
  471.
  472. It hasn't, and it won't, and it doesn't.
  473.
  474. (James): Although the leaked recording
  475. makes a brief mention
  476.
  477. of the US Secretary of State John Kerry
  478. and the US government,
  479.
  480. this latest development, like so many
  481. other developments in Turkish politics,
  482.
  483. seems to studiously avoid
  484.
  485. -- or to have been studiously
  486. edited --
  487.
  488. to remove more substantial revelations
  489. of US State Department

  503.
  504. and Prime Minister Erdoğan,

  514.

  518.
  519. with the AKP claiming a landslide victory
  520. in the contest.
  521.
  522. In fact, this conversation leak is just
  523. one of a number of similar operations
  524.
  525. in recent months, including the leak of a
  526. conversation implicating Erdogan
  527.
  528. in the release of a sex tape

  531. and a video of the Prime Minister
  532.
  533. telling his son

  569. Many are reportedly using
  570.
  571. a service provided by Google
  572.
  573. to get around the block.
  574.
  575. Twitter users in Turkey
  576.
  577. may have actually increased
  578.
  579. since the government crackdown.
  580.
  581. On Thursday...
  582.
  583. -- have a look at the numbers --
  584.
  585. On Thursday, there were 138%
  586. more tweets from Turkey
  587.
  588. than on the day before,
  589.
  590. according to the analytics firm
  591. Brand Watch.
  592.
  593. (James): As Edmonds explains, however,
  594.
  595. just because the most recent tape
  596. was not leaked
  597.
  598. for the purpose of derailing any
  599. false-flag operation,
  600.
  601. it does have that
  602. unintended consequence.
  603.
  604. (James): Very interesting, indeed.
  605.
  606. And I think one of the most interesting
  607. parts of this
  608.
  609. is that even though it wasn't released
  610. for altruistic purposes;
  611.
  612. and even though it was heavily redacted,
  613.
  614. it could still have a good effect
  615. on at least getting people to question
  616.
  617. in the event of... the wake of
  618. whatever tragedy comes along.
  619.
  620. So, hopefully we can use
  621. something of this.
  622.
  623. (Sibel): Absolutely!
  624. I would call it a "positive externality."
  625.
  626. You know, you have negative?
  627. This is positive externality.
  628.
  629. No matter what, it has nothing
  630. to do with elections or anything.
  631.
  632. It put it within people's consciousness
  633.
  634. both at home in Turkey, but also abroad.
  635.
  636. So, that's a good thing.
  637.
  638. And saying that, even if
  639. that was going to take place,
  640.
  641. it's not going to:
  642. just for the fact that this was released.
  643.
  644. Though that was not the intention
  645. of releasing these tapes,
  646.
  647. because of... "Uh, that scenario's
  648. not gonna work."
  649.
  650. [laughs] "That hand was played before."
  651.
  652. (James): As to what will happen
  653. in the future,
  654.
  655. pieces continue to be moved around
  656. on the Turkish chessboard.
