　シルフィが妊娠した。
　二人目の子供である。

　出発直前のこの時期。
　以前なら、どうしようと頭を抱えた事である。
　しかしながら、こうして長期出張に出るときに子供ができるのは四度目である。
　心配な事に変わりは無いが、今までとくらべて余裕があった。

　実におめでたい事だ。
　名前は何にしよう。
　今度は男の子かな、女の子かな。
　ルーシー、弟か妹が出来るよ？
　またおねえちゃんになるね？
　と、俺は喜び勇んで庭駆け回ったのだが……。

「シルフィ奥様が……ど、どうしましょう……！？」

　リーリャは狼狽していた。
　いつもは冷静な彼女が、青い顔をして、迷っていた。

「ゼニス奥様の世話をするのは私しか……でも、家事が出来るのは身重のシルフィ奥様だけで……万が一があっては……」

Chapter 216 - And to Milishion...

Sylphy became pregnant.
It's our second child together.

This time just before the departure.
In the past when this happened, I was at my wit's end as to whether or not to leave.
However, this is the fourth child I've had while on a long business trip.

　そう思う面もあるのだが、妊婦を置いて数ヶ月も留守にするというのは、やはり不安が残るようだ。

　リーリャは迷っていた。
　ゼニスについていくべきか、残ってシルフィを見るべきか。
　こうしてリーリャが狼狽しているのを見ると、俺もオロオロしなければいけない気がしてくる。
　もしかして無邪気に喜んでいる場合ではないのだろうか。
　もともと、オルステッドの配下になると決めた時点で、妊婦を置いて出張に出る可能性については覚悟していた。
　だが、考えてみれば、それはアイシャかリーリャという、信頼できる世話係の存在を前提にしてのことだ。
　もしかして、今回はまずいのだろうか。
　おろおろ……。

「えっと、ボクは大丈夫だよ。二回目だし、ロキシーもエリスもいるし、お祖母ちゃんもいるから」

　悩むリーリャに、シルフィはそう言った。
　確かに、シルフィ自身も二度目だ。
　何をどうすべきかはわかっているだろう。
　頼れる人も多い。
　ロキシーは家にいないことも多いだろうが、エリナリーゼに定期的に見に来てもらえるなら、それが一番だろう。
　エリスだって、何かあれば積極的に動いてくれるはずだ。

「わたしは昼間いないので不安な所はありますが、でも周囲に常に人がいますので、そうそう危険な事はないかと思います」

　ロキシーとエリスもそう言う。
　でも、不安の種はつきない。
　リーリャは、ロキシーのローブの裾を掴んで立っているララをちらりと見下ろして言った。

「しかし、今は子供もいて、負担も増えています。何が起こるかわかりません……」

「どうかな、確かめてみないとわからないじゃないか」
　なんて言って、家族計画など考えずにオイタしちゃったのは俺だ。

　何にせよ、ミリスまでの移動時間を考えれば、一年や二年遅れた所で、向こうも文句は言うまい。
　クリフと同じだ。

　俺が何のためにオルステッドに協力しているかを考えろ。

　ゼニスが向かった先は、シルフィの所だった。

「えっと……ゼニス、さん？」

　戸惑うシルフィ。
　ゼニスはリーリャの手を、シルフィの肩の上に、そっと載せた。
　まるで、リーリャはこの子を見ていて、と言わんばかりに。
　自分は大丈夫だから、と言わんばかりに。

「私の代わりに、ゼニス奥様のお世話をし、無事にラトレイア家に送り届けなさい。ワガママは許しません！」
「………………はい！」

Lilia's eyes were moist.

　いつもなら、まだ不安が残る所だ。
　だが、シルフィの後ろにはリーリャがいる。
　頼れる二人目の母さんだ。

　その後、ロキシーとエリスにもそれぞれハグをしてから、俺達は出発した。

"Sylphy."

　相変わらず『二式改』を装備しての移動なので重量は問題ない。
　だが、どんな力持ちでも、手は二本しかなく、背中は一つしかない。
　人の大きさは変わらず、自分より大きな荷物を持てば動きにくくなる。
　一抱えもある、空のダンボールを持っているようなものだ。

「君の子供達が、僕の子供の良き友となってくれる事をミリス様に祈るよ」

　俺がどれだけミリス教的に悪いヤツでも、子供に罪はないのだ。
　まぁ、俺から生まれた子供が、将来的に相手をとっかえひっかえする可能性もあるけど……。
　その時は、またクリフが説教してくれるだろう。
　いや、俺が説教しなきゃいかんな。うん。

　結論から言うと「頑固で厳しい人物」だ。

　アイシャは「ノルン姉を立てろって怒られた」とため息混じりに言った。
　リーリャは「とにかく血筋と教義を重んじる方です」と答えてくれた。

　要するに、この三人は、ミリシオンに滞在している頃、かの家に厄介になりつつ、家柄や結婚のことについてだいぶネチネチとやられたらしい。

　もっとも、俺はクレアに対しては、あまり心配していない。
　確かに前情報だけ聞くと、会いに行くのが怖くなるが……。
　「頑固で厳しい人間」には俺も一人、心当たりがある。

"By the way, Cliff-senpai, do you know anything about the Latreia house?"
"The Latreia house..."

　教義を重んじる、という点は少し怖いので、重婚しているということは隠しておいた方がいいだろう。

　何にせよ、あの大声と暴力の支配するエリスの実家でも暮らしていけたのだ。
　クレアもサウロスの女バージョンあたりを想定していけば、多分大丈夫だろう。
　妹達も思い出補正で嫌なヤツだと断定しているが、会ってみたら、ちょっと頑固なだけで情に厚い好人物、って可能性も十分にありうる。
　ルイジェルドみたいにな。

　何にせよ、母親が娘に会いたいというのを止めるつもりは、俺にはない。
　一応、情報は集めておくけど。

　その流れで、かつてラトレイア家で、「出来の悪い子」の烙印を押されたということも話したようだ。
　アイシャと常に比べられ、妾の子に負ける出来損ない、と。

"They are members of the anti-Magic Race faction, and are a prominent family that has produced many excellent temple knights."

　あれ、でもそうなると、魔族排斥派のラトレイア家と、魔族迎合派のグリモル家がくっつくってことで。
　あ、いやいや。
　ノルンは違う。
　うちの子はグレイラット家だ。

　ミリス教団の派閥争いなんて関係ない。

　確かに、考えると面倒な形だな。

　ラトレイア家は神殿騎士団、魔族排斥派で、クリフの敵。
　その家と繋がりを持つのは、考えた方がいいのだろうか。

　いや、血がつながっているのは確かなのだ。
　だから、俺はあくまで魔法都市シャリーアのグレイラット家。
　オルステッド配下、『龍神の右腕』のルーデウス・グレイラット。
　クリフの友人のルーデウス、として立ち回ればいい。

I am of the Greyrat house in the Magic City Sharia.
I am Orsted's subordinate, [The Right Arm of the Dragon God] Rudeus Greyrat.
I am Rudeus, Cliff's friend, that is who I am.

「積極的にクリフ先輩の手伝いはしませんが、でもだからって敵に回る事はありません。嘘だったらクライブ君にうちの娘の一人をあげてもいいですよ」

　クリフはフッと笑って歩き出した。
　ホントに冗談だよな？
　でも、ルーシーもララも可愛いからなぁ……。
　きっと二人とも、将来は母親に似た美人に育つだろう。

　クライブ君は、そんな美人姉妹を見て育つ。
　きっと初恋の相手はルーシーとかだろう。
　クライブ君はエリナリーゼの息子だし、もしかすると早い段階で告って付き合いだすかもしれない。

　どこの馬の骨ともわからぬ輩ならまだしも、クリフの息子だ。
　クライブ君がどうしてもというのなら、お願いしますお義父さんと頭を下げて頼むなら、交際を認めてやらんでもない。
　もちろん、君にお義父さんと呼ばれる筋合いは無いのだが――。

「お兄ちゃん、置いてくよー」

　ゼニスの手を引くアイシャに呼ばれ、我に返った。

「ああ、すまんすまん」

　何にせよ、まだまだ先の話だ。
　そう思いつつ、俺たちはクリフの後を追った。

"I don't know how much I can help Cliff-senpai, but I certainly won't act as an enemy. If you think this is a lie then we could always betroth one of my daughters to Clive."
"Oh, that might be good. The engagement of your daughter and my son... Yeah, not bad..."
"Ah, please wait a minute. After all, a parent deciding their child's marriage is..."
"I know, I know. It's a joke, it's far too early."

Cliff began to walk with a smile.

But I wonder, because Lucy and Lara are cute...

　その後、地下に移動し、転移魔法陣に乗った。

　ミリス側の転移魔法陣は、以前この付近に来た時に作った。
　ミリス首都からそう遠く離れていない森の奥。
　そこにある廃屋敷の地下だ。

　なぜ森に廃屋敷があるのか、と思うだろうが、
　この世界では森の近くにあった村が、唐突に侵食してきた森に飲み込まれる事がある。
　ここも、そんな村の一つなのだ。

　苔むして、蔦だらけになった屋敷の地下。
　そんな場所に、ボンヤリと光る魔法陣。
　屋敷自体は管理されていないが、木々に支えられているせいか、すぐに潰れる事はあるまい。

I stopped by the office to greet Orsted.
Then went through the basement to use the magic teleportation circle.

We had previously established a teleportation circle near Milis.
We were teleported into the depths of a forest a little ways away from Milishion.
We're in the basement of an abandoned mansion.

Even if I ask myself why there's an abandoned mansion in the forest,
it seems that in this world villages are frequently built near forests and then swallowed up.
This is one of those villages.

It's mossy, and the mansion's basement is full of ivy.
In such a place, the magic formation glows dimly.
The mansion is neglected, but perhaps because it's supported by the trees it won't collapse soon.

　たまに近所の町から冒険者がやってくるが、魔法陣のある部屋は隠し通路でつながっており、その通路への入口のある部屋には、宝箱を置いておいた。
　中には、どうでもいい魔力付与品が入っているだけだが、大抵のヤツはそれで満足して帰るだろう。

　そこからは徒歩での移動だ。

　廃人状態であるゼニスを連れての旅であるため、少々時間も掛かる。
　ミリスの近くであるため、強い魔物はいないが、ゆっくり進む必要があるだろう。

　そうそう、魔物と言えば。
　魔法陣を設置するためにオルステッドとこの森に訪れた時、
　初めてあの魔物に出会ったのを思い出した。

　ゴブリンだ。
　緑色の肌をして、人間の半分程度の大きさを持つあいつだ。
　好色で好戦的、世界でも最弱クラスの個体。
　群れで生活し、時折他の種族を捕まえてきて交配し、妊娠させる。
　話は通じないし、人を敵として見ており、見かけると襲い掛かってくる。

Although occasionally adventurers come from neighboring towns, so I hid the room to the magic formation with a secret passageway, and I left a treasure chest in the room with the entrance to the passage.
I leave some minor magic items in the chest, most adventurers are satisfied with that and return. // Fake end. Smart. //

We're moving on foot from here.

Because Zenith is essentially disabled, traveling is slow.
There aren't any strong demons in the vicinity of Milis, but it's still necessary to advance slowly.

Oh yeah, thinking of demons.
When I visited this forest with Orsted to install the magic formation,
I remembered the first time I met a certain demon.

A goblin.
Green skin, about half the size of a human.
Lewd and belligerent, they are in the world's weakest class of monster.
Living in tribes, they occasionally capture other races to impregnate. // ? //
That's not all, they view people as the enemy, and attack on sight.

　でも正直、ゴブリンという生物は、魔物ではなく魔族なのではないか、と思う部分もあった。
　彼らは、森の奥にある洞窟で非常に原始的な生活をしている。
　横穴式の住居で、集団による狩りで生計を立てている。
　工作レベルは低いにしても、棍棒や石包丁といった道具も使っている。
　また、チラリと見ただけだが、親のゴブリンは子供のゴブリンに対して、愛情のようなものを見せていた。
　単に知能が低すぎるため魔物扱いされている、というだけで、原始時代の人間とそう変わりはしないのだと思う。

　これで言葉を理解出来れば、もう少し違ったのかもしれない。
　でも、ここはミリス大陸。
　ミリス神聖国ではあの手の生物は認められていない。
　もしかすると、ゴブリンが人を見ると問答無用で襲いかかってくるのも、
　そうした過去のしがらみがあったからかもしれない。
　きっと、ゴブリンとミリス神聖国には、俺の知らない闘争の歴史があったのだろう。

　思えばゴブリンもかわいそうな生物だ。
　せめて生息していたのが中央大陸だったら、話は違ったかもしれない。
　完全な魔物ではなく、最下級の魔族として認識されていたかもしれない……。

But in truth, these creatures called goblins, might not be simple demons, there was a part of me that thought that.
They live primitive lives in caves in the depths of the forest.
Living in cave-type dwellings, they survive as groups of hunters.
Although their intelligence is low, they use simple tools like clubs and stone knives.
Also, although I only caught a glimpse, it looked like goblin parents show something like love for their children.
I don't think they're that different from primitive humans, they're simply treated as demons because of their low intelligence.

If we could understand their words, they might not be that different.
But, this is Milis Continent.
Such a creature is not permitted in the country of Holy Milis. // Where would a short, rape-y, green man be permitted? //
Possibly, Goblins might choose to attack people with no questions asked,
maybe because of past conflicts and generations of bad blood. // Added to clarify. //
Surely, the goblins share a history of struggle with Milis.

If I think about it Goblins are a pitiable creature.
Maybe it would be a different story if they inhabited the Central Continent.
Rather than a demon, they might have been recognized as a low-class Magic race...

　そんな事を考えながら、俺は道中で襲い掛かってくるゴブリンを難なく排除して、ミリシオンへと向かった。
　いや、俺はゴブリン愛護団体じゃないしね。
　可哀想だからって襲ってきたら容赦はしないよ。


　森を抜けてから、ミリシオンまでは７日程度の距離がある。
　途中で村に寄って、馬車を購入した。
　馬車といっても荷車のような粗末なものだが、歩くよりはマシだろう。
　石版も重いしな。

　馬車を操りながら街道を行く。
　この国はアスラ王国よりも平原が多く、畑作より放牧をしている農家が多い。

While thinking that, I effortlessly eliminated any Goblins that came to attack us along our route to Milishion.
No, I'm not about to start a Goblin Welfare Organization.
I won't forgive goblins for attacking me even if they're pitiable.


After exiting the forest, we're about 7 days from Milishion.
We stopped in a village to buy a horse-drawn carriage.
Even if I said carriage, it's more like a poorly constructed cart, but it will be better than walking.
The lithograph is also heavy.

We followed the highway on the carriage.
The countryside is barren compared to Asura Kingdom, many farmers here maintain grazing fields rather than crops.

　アスラ王国はアメリカの麦畑的な風景が多いが、
　こちらはアルプスの放牧地のような風景が多い。

　アスラは黄と緑。
　ミリスは青と緑。
　どちらも緑が多いという点では一致している。
　緑の多さは豊かな証拠だ。

　道中における魔物の多さは、一応ミリスの方が多いが、その程度だ。
　魔大陸や北方大地に比べれば、ぬるま湯のような環境と言える。

Asura Kingdom has scenery like America's fields of wheat,

Asura is green and yellow.
Milis is green and blue.
Both are consistent in terms of greenery.
The abundant plant-life is rich evidence.  // ? Potential for obscure ref //

We encountered a number of monsters along the way, but that's normal for Milis.
Compared to the Magic Continent and Begaritto Continent, Milis Continent is lukewarm. // No  real danger //

A beautiful city surrounded by rich nature and protected by seven towers.
