  1. > staying up late one night
  2. > suddenly, there comes a flash from behind me
  3. > I turn around, it's princess Luna
  4. > I immediately drop to the floor, showing my respect for the princess
  5. > "rise, anon"
  6. what brings you to my house Princess?
  7. > "I have been searching for fellow night walkers"
  8. well, I suppose I do stay up later than most
  9. > "I wish to....make your acquaintance"
  10. > knowing what the others in ponyville have done, you imagine this is innuendo
  11. > but, on the other hand, you can't outright refuse the princess
  12. alright, your highness
  13.
  14. > she seems to detense at hearing your approval
  15. > "I am so glad to finally have someone to call my friend"
  16. were you really that lonely, your highness?
  17. > "yes, after spending so long on that barren land, then returning to find everyone asleep once more"
  18. I imagine it must be difficult to make friends with those who are asleep
  19. > "very much so"
  20. well, I'm here for you
  21. > "and I'm very grateful for it"
  22.
  23. (pt. 2)
  24.
  25. what's life like, being the princess of night?
  26. > "lonely. I'm constantly in the shadow of my sister, no one appreciates me quite as much as her, it's a bit upsetting at times"
  27. That's a shame, the night is so beautiful, really I find it much better than the day
  28. > she blushes at this
  29. > I can't imagine how long it must have been since she's had proper social contact
  30. > "what is it like, being the only human in Equestria"
  31. I'm alone. I have no one to share my feelings, to express my thoughts with, to connect to on a truly personal level.
  32. > "I understand your pain, anon. However, I feel tonight, we shall both find ourselves an end to our sufferings"
  33. > feel comforted by this
  34. Princess, would you like a seat?
  35. > "yes, please"
  36. > she sits down on a chair
  37. so...how old are you exactly?
  38. > "you should never ask a mare her age, anon"
  39. I know, I know, but I have to wonder
  40. > "1728"
  41. and your bigger sister?
  42. > "I believe she's somewhere around 2565"
  43. and you both look so young?
  44. > she blushes again
  45. > "well thank you anon"
  46. hmm....
  47. > "what's bothering you?"
  48. oh nothing.....I don't want to bother you
  49. > "no, it's fine anon, please, tell me"
  50. I wanted to ask you about the moon
  51. > "oh...."
  52. what was it like, being stuck there for a thousand years?
  53. > "well....at first it was amazing, the landscape is so beautiful, but slowly it looked less like the moon and more like a prison"
  54. yes, I would imagine it would lose it's luster over time
  55.
  56. (pt.3)
  57. > "then, I became so full of rage, I lost myself up there"
  58. > tears start to roll down her cheek
  59. > "all I wanted was revenge, revenge for not ever having someone to love me, the same way they loved my sister"
  60. > she's slightly sobbing as she speaks
  61. > wrap my arms around her
  62. now, now Luna, it's ok
  63. > "I'm so sorry"
  64. shhh, I know, I forgive you
  65. > her mane is brushing against me
  66. > it feels very wispy and soft
  67. > just like how I always imagined it would be
  68. > she's stopped sobbing now
  69. > I release my hug
  70. > "you've been so nice to me anon"
  71. well, why not? You're a nice person
  72. > her head and ears lower at this
  73. > "other people don't seem to think so"
  74. what do you mean?
  75. > "they always run in terror when they see me. They think I'm still going to harm them"
  76. I very sorry to hear that
  77. > "why don't you?"
  78. huh?
  79. > "why don't you think that I'm going to hurt you?"
  80. > you've always assumed the best in ponies, they hardly ever seem willing to do harm to eachother
  81. Because I love the night, the night has never harmed me, so I thought that you might be kind as well.
  82. > she seems taken aback by my admitting love for the night
  83. > "n-nopony has ever said they love the night"
  84. well, I do
  85. > "thank you"
  86. of course, princess
  87. > she gets up
  88. > "my time here is drawing to an end. Until we meet again, anon"
  89. farewell princess
  90.
  91. (pt. 4)
  92. > morning strikes
  93. > knock on the door, it's the mailpony
  94. > she hands me a rather official looking envelope
  95. > my address is written on there in very beautiful calligraphy
  96. > a wax seal blocks me from opening it
  97. > the seal portrays the sun
  98. what would Celestia be mailing me about?
  99. > open the envelope carefully, so as to not destroy the seal
  100. > it reads:
  101. > "dear anon, Luna tells me you have befriended her while she was walking about at night. She has never been happier. Thank you, anon, for bringing her a happiness that has long been gone from her life.
  102. >Eternally yours,
  103. >Celestia
  104. > it's nice to know somebody cares for you
  105. > day goes off well, nothing to complain about
  106. > night rolls its head around again
  107. > Luna appears once more
  108. > I approach her, less formally than before
  109. > "hello again anon, it's nice to see you"
  110. it's nice to see you too Luna
  111. > she sits down on the chair again
  112. how was your day?
  113. > "I did a few things around the castle, met some diplomats from all over Equestria. I did talk to my sister about you."
  114. I know, she sent me a letter, thanking me for being your friend
  115. > she reads over the letter
  116. > she chuckles as she reads it
  117. > "Ah yes, Celestia was always one for the dramatic"
  118. I suppose "a happiness that has been long gone from her life" is a bit theatrical
  119. > "yes. So how was your day?"
  120. nothing too special I suppose, I met with Twilight, who recommended yet another book to me, helped Applejack at the farm.
  121. > "hmm, sounds....exciting"
  122. > she's feigning interest, at least she's trying to care
  123. yea, it wasn't all that bad I guess
  124. > "anon, can I ask you a question?"
  125. sure, ask away
  126.
  127.
  128. (part 5)
  129.
  130.
  131. > "why is the night so beautiful, to you?"
  132. > she turned away for a moment when asking that
  133. > is she embarrassed?
  134. well, I find the darkness, soothing. The sunlight is so harsh and direct. The sky is a bright blue. It overwhelms the senses. Whereas in the night, it's calm, I can observe every star in the sky with wonder, and stare at the moon, that wonderful moon.
  135. > "yes...wonderful"
  136. > damn, I forgot
  137. I'm sorry princess, I didn't mean to bring that up again
  138. > "no...no it's quite alright. I guess it is beautiful, even if I was trapped on it for 1000 years"
  139. > feeling bad now
  140. > "so, do you not like the day?"
  141. It has its functions, but no, I suppose I don't
  142. > "that's nice to hear"
  143. why's that?
  144. > "it means that I mean more to you than Celestia"
  145. well, I do know you better than her
  146. > " true, but my time here is at an end"
  147. bye Luna
  148. > she departs
  149.
  150. (pt.6)
  151. > morning once more
  152. > no mailpony this time, instead instantly teleported letter to my room
  153. > reads:
  154. > Dear anon, Luna informs me of her importance to you. In fact, that is what bothers me so. She seems to have adopted delusions of grandeur. While I am glad to see you making my sister happy, I cannot have you corrupting her mind. Henceforth, you shall be forbidden to meet with my sister.
  155. > eternally yours,
  156. > Celestia
  157. > Banned from seeing Luna?
  158. > this is all very upsetting
  159. > she was the only one who I connected with
  160. > she understood my plight, of being along in the world
  161. > I thought we were going to make a lasting connection
  162. > damn Celestia, thinking she can tell me that I can't make friends with people
  163. > I writhe in a rage all day
  164. > come night, it appears as if Celestia has followed through on her word
  165. > just before I go to bed, Luna arrives again
  166. > "anon, I can't stay long"
  167. I know Luna, I was worried about you
  168. > " fear not, for as long as we have our friendship, we can never be separated"
  169. > the notion that this could be true touches me deep inside
  170. > " I just had to check in and make sure you're alright"
  171. yes, I'm fine, I was just worried that Celestia had gotten to you
  172. > "I'm fine, I must leave though, before Celestia realizes I'm missing"
  173. > Luna teleports away, leaving me to go to bed
  174.
  175. (pt. 7)
  176. > next morning there is a hefty knock at the door
  177. who could that be this early in the morning?
  178. > I open the door to find two Equestrian Royal Guards
  179. > one of them hands me a letter
  180. > reads:
  181. > "Dear anon, I know of your and Luna's meeting. You have directly disobeyed my orders. You are to meet me at the royal court immediately to decide your punishment.
  182. > eternally yours,
  183. > Celestia
  184. > the two guards grab me, sling me over their backs and fly to Canterlot Palace
  185. > I'm thrown in the dungeon to await my sentence.
  186. > the room is dark, and dank. It smells of mildew and rotting meat
  187. > I hear a faint voice from the other side of the cell
  188. > "a-anon?"
  189. Luna? Is that you?
  190. > "yes"
  191. What's going on here?
  192. > "treason"
  193. what?
  194. > "we're being tried for treason"
  195. (pt. 8)
  196.
  197. how can we be tried for treason?
  198. > "you've corrupted me"
  199. but I haven't
  200. > "Celestia seems to think you have"
  201. All I did was befriend you, is that so much of a crime?
  202. > she heaves a sigh
  203. > "I suppose it is"
  204. We need to do something about this
  205. > "what can we do?"
  206. I'm not sure yet, but I'll think of something
  207. > a guard approaches the gate, and frees me
  208. > "you're trial awaits, criminal"
  209. > he shoves me to a large courtroom, very well lit
  210. > Celestia stands as judge
  211. > "Anon, you are tried for treasonous actions in corrupting Princess Luna to perform actions that are disloyal to the Equestrian Monarchy. How do you plead?
  212. Not guilty, your honor
  213. > "very well, state your plea"
  214. Your honor, I have done nothing wrong. I have only befriended Luna, your sister. I have not talked about rebellion, I have not convinced her that you are evil. I have done nothing treasonous.
  215. > "have you any evidence to support your claim?"
  216. n-no your honor
  217. > "and what of the decree that forbade your from meeting with the Princess?
  218. I-I broke that....
  219. > she's using the Royal Canterlot voice
  220. > "then We, of the Celestial Court, find you, guilty of treasonous action against the Equestrian Monarchy. You are sentenced to be held in the dungeon, until such a time as We can banish you back to your home world."
  221.
  222. (pt. 9)
  223.
  224. > I'm dragged back into my cell by the guards
  225. > I'm shocked beyond belief.
  226. > "how did it go?"
  227. I've been banished, back to my homeworld
  228. > "oh...."
  229. we have to do something
  230. > "what can we do?"
  231. > the shackles are a little too big for human hands
  232. > I wriggle free a hand
  233. Luna, can you use magic?
  234. > "no, Celestia is suppressing it with a ring"
  235. > I free my other hand
  236. hold on Luna, I'll be there in a second
  237. > I pick up a rock and shatter my leg braces
  238. > I've attracted the guards attention, he's looking in
  239. > I grab hold of chains and act like I'm still bound
  240. > He's stopped paying attention
  241. > I run over to Luna
  242. > She's pinned to the wall, with a ring on her horn
  243. > I carefully slide the ring off, to avoid making noise
  244. > Luna frees herself with her magic
  245. > We embrace quickly
  246. > Luna teleports us out of the Dungeon
  247. > We are in the Everfree forest
  248. > "they'll be searching for us, but we'll be safe here for a while"
  249. > we find a place that's reasonably hidden from any paths
  250. Luna, thanks for saving my skin
  251. > "thanks for saving mine"
  252. > we fall asleep
  253.
  254. (pt. 10)
  255.
  256. > wake up
  257. > Luna isn't Luna
  258. > She's Nightmare Moon
  259. Luna? What happened to you?
  260. > "who does Celestia think she is? Kidnapping my only friend? She thinks she's so important!"
  261. Luna!
  262. > "oh, hello anon, glad to see you're up"
  263. Luna, what's going on, why do you look like that?
  264. > "no time to explain, hop on"
  265. > she motions for me to get on her back
  266. > I climb on, she immediately takes off
  267. > I notice as we're flying, what's behind us is suddenly night
  268. Where are we going?
  269. > "to confront our problems"
  270. What!? We can't do that!
  271. > "Sure we can, we have to teach Celestia a lesson"
  272. > "get ready!"
  273. > she dives
  274. > she breaks through large stained glass window
  275. > We're now in the Throne Room
  276. > Celestia looks shocked, and caught off guard
  277. > I dismount Luna
  278. > "Celestia! I've got a score to settle!"
  279.
  280. (pt. 11)
  281.
  282. > "Nightmare Moon!"
  283. > Luna's horn glows, and Celestia is thrown across the room
  284. > Celestia projects a beam of light at Luna
  285. > Luna projects a beam of dark at Celestia
  286. > beams are evenly matched
  287. > "Nightmare Moon, why have you returned?"
  288. > " You tried to take away the only friend that I have, the only one to ever love me the way everyone loves you"
  289. > Luna pushes and the beams shift toward Celestia
  290. > "I was worried this would happen if I kept him too long"
  291. Kept me too long? What am I? Some sort of pet?
  292. > "Luna thrusts again, and again the beams move more toward Celestia"
  293. > "Yes, Celestia, does he mean nothing to you?"
  294. > The beams contact Celestia
  295. > A blinding flash erupts from the beam hitting Celestia
  296. > Luna then brings down a statue on Celestia
  297. Ok Luna, that's enough
  298. > Luna slowly approaches a severely weakened Celestia
  299. > "You will pay for what you have done"
  300. > Celestia can barely lift a hoof
  301. > Luna brings a hoof up, ready to stomp Celestia
  302. Luna no!
  303. > she pauses
  304. > looks over at me
  305.
  306. (pt. 12)
  307. Luna please. Do you know what will happen if you do that?
  308. > she looks over at Celestia, who's helpless with the weight of a statue on her
  309. > I run over to Celestia, and inspect the damage
  310. > Luna puts her hoof down
  311. Luna, if you kill her, nobody will ever love you. You'd strike fear into all their hearts
  312. > my voice trembles as I confront her
  313. > she looks as if the significance of what she's done has dawned on her
  314. > She morphs back into regular Luna
  315. > She lifts the statue off of her sister
  316. > the Royal Guard rushes her off to a hospital
  317. > Luna sits on the floor and cries
  318. Luna, I know your intentions were good
  319. > She can't even face me
  320. Luna, look at me
  321. > she reluctantly looks at me
  322. > never have I seen a more dejected, downtrodden expression in my life
  323. > "why anon? So I can hurt you too?
  324. You would never do that
  325. > "wouldn't I? Look what I did to my own sister!"
  326. Luna, you were protecting me
  327. > "and look what happened because of it"
  328. You had the best of intentions for me, you just got a little carried away
  329. > she turns her head away again
  330. Come on Luna, I think we need to visit your sister in the hospital
  331. > the Royal Guard, in fear of what might happen, let us go
  332.
  333. (pt. 13)
  334.
  335. > we fly to the hospital
  336. > I never let go of the hug I have on her
  337. > we land at the hospital
  338. > we enter, and find Celestia's room.
  339. > she's conscious
  340. > Luna approaches Celestia's bedside
  341. > "Sis, I'm really sorry about what happened"
  342. > Celestia doesn't seem to accept
  343. Celestia, she means it, she was just protecting me, she didn't want to lose her only friend
  344. > Celestia's eyes seem to convey understanding
  345. > she weakly responds
  346. > "You are forgiven"
  347. > Celestia then falls asleep
  348. > Luna drops me off at my house
  349. Goodbye Luna, I hope we see each other again
  350. > "goodbye anon, I hope we can too"
  351. > She flies away
  352. > I hear nothing from either of them for a few weeks
  353. > suddenly, a message comes in the mail
  354. > it has the same wax seal Celestia had used before
  355. > it reads:
  356. > Dear anon, Today I learned an important lesson about friendship. I learned that friendship really can conquer all. Even if someone tries to stop you from having friends, you can count on your friends to be there, and support you. Friends can help you through the hardest of times, and even when you show your worst self, friends will help you make the right decisions, and will always drive you to show your best self.
  357. > Eternally yours,
  358. > Celestia
