blaite review

Blaite is a simple platformer game with the main gimmick being the difficulty.

PROS:
- Fun, for a few levels.
- Trading cards, achievements, and a +1 to your library.
CONS:
- The difficulty curve.
- It's not hard, it's unfair.
- Hitboxes are terrible! Seriously!
- Multiplayer is a mess.
- Little content.
- The cost.

ACHIEVEMENTS - The game has achievements. I managed to 100% the game in .2 hours, or about 12 minutes. Only 1 of these achievements are anything other than trivial, that being complete chapter 1. The multiplayer achievements are a joke! (see: multiplayer) If you are an achievement hunter, only get this game if you want a perfect game and free % points.

DIFFICULTY CURVE - You can graph the difficulty curve by putting paint in your nose, sneezing onto a piece of paper, and then connecting the dots. It starts off with some very easy levels, just introducing you to the game's mechanics. The moment it introduces every mechanic, it becomes hellish with how random it feels.

UNFAIR / OBSTACLES - The slime enemy has a randomly assigned path. There are levels that you have to retry over and over again just to get past the slime, and then you still have to beat the rest of the level. The bat enemy will awaken once you get near it, and it will fly through walls never never lose sight of you. Basically, once you get spotted by it, the round has a timer on it.

UNFAIR / MUNDANE - The game only uses 3 colors. Black, white, and gray. White is the color of the background, and gray is only used on the exit door. Since black is used for every single detail, it's not hard to confuse grass with spikes. You might have to die to the same thing several times to fully understand why you died in the first place.

UNFAIR / LADDERS - Oh my god, the ladders are terrible! You can not jump off of a ladder, but you can fall off of a ladder. You can not jump if a ladder is near you, you have to climb the ladder. The game has levels that are obviously trying to get you to use ladders, and boy oh boy is it infuriating. Ladders are so hard to use in this game, you have to spend time just learning how to use them.

UNFAIR / HITBOXES - Hitboxes. Your hitbox is way bigger than what it is made out to be. There's honestly not much more to say. Please fix them, developer.

MULTIPLAYER - Remember olden day flash game multiplayer, where two people would share the same keyboard? That is pretty much this game's multiplayer, except you both can't play at once! You have to take turns playing the same level, competing for times and completion. The achievements corresponding to beating multiplayer achievements is laughable! You don't have to beat level 30, you have to beat 30 levels. Meaning, you can play level 1 over and over again until you get the achievement.

CONTENT - The game is extremely limited in what you can do. There is 0 replay ability factor. Once you beat the game, you might as well uninstall it, as there's nothing else to do.

COST - I got this game for free, but based on what I played, the game would be better off on a flash gaming website. It took me 12 minutes to beat the game, and at the 3 dollar price, it is so not worth it. Spend your money on something better, like an apple or two.

OVERALL - The game, in it's current state, gets a 2/10 from me. If you are intrigued by the game, consider picking up the game "Just Get Through" as it does everything this game does, but better in pretty much every regard.
