  1. Andellousia pseudospoilers of what I had planned:
  2. After the night in the tent, Kafiq convinces Illeena to stay behind. That monstrous looking thing at the end is just some monster guy who turns out to be friendly, ends up becoming adventuring buddy. The quest is mostly a long journey across various cities and locales trying to reach the forgotten city Kafiq's people once fled from, to pick up the mantle of his ancestral responsibilities.
  3.
  4. Along the way he meets various characters who I'd only vaguely outlined in character sketches and who I won't go into very much because I may re-introduce them in another quest, like Dive, changed enough to fit the world. The whole thing was an odyssey/alice in wonderland sort of thing, stranger in a strange land, weird people and weird situations generally ramping up as he gets closer and closer to the fabled lost city.
  5.
  6. At one point Kafiq faces a villain using some sort of destructive force/construct/magic/whatever to attack a city, forcing his attention. Eventually he wrecks shit up and unmasks the villain only to find out it was Illeena. She lies wounded in the rubble and makes it apparent that she was jealous/desperate for his attention and turned to this. A very "the only thing you've managed to break so far is my heart" moment.
  7.
  8. At the end of the journey Kafiq arrives at the ruined city half-buried in the sand and grapples with the realization that he has no idea what to do here. There are no signs. Exploring further however he finds a sunken chamber with glowing ancient-tech and an unconscious young man in great pain sleeping beneath some sort of glowing device.
  9.
  10. Finally Kafiq uncovers the story of the ancient legend -- that his whole weird world is a dream. But not his dream. The young man's dream. And if the dreamer were ever to wake, the world would vanish. Kafiq and his people were charged with keeping the dreamer asleep. But keeping him unconscious causes him incredible pain -- and there are other implications of possible side effects in relation to his psyche as it affects the world. So the ultimate decision of the quest then is whether to let the tortured dreamer wake or keep him in eternal slumber.
