- I know I"m necroing this thread, but it"s _my_ thread and it beats making a new thread on it.
- Well... things have changed in my thinking of this. My main goal is to make each card more or less work in "real" Magic.
- So. There are 18 types right now and I have them divided up by color as well as possible. I might take inspiration from the Pokemon TCG sets for cards and the like and maybe even art.
- As for mechanics - I figured that I"d mine Magic"s extensive history to assign some kind of mechanic to each of the types if possible.
- A dual-type Pokemon will be each of its colors (which may mean 1- or 2-color.)
- White types are Fairy, Fighting, and Rock.
- Blue types are Ice, Psychic, and Water.
- Black types are Dark, Ghost, and Poison.
- Red types are Dragon, Electric, and Fire.
- Green types are Bug, Grass, and Ground.
- Flying is colorless. Tornadus would be the only purely-colorless creature in the set. Flying-type Aura will also be colorless.
- Steel, instead of being a color, will grant the artifact type. A pure steel or steel/flying will just be a regular artifact creature, but any dual-type steel will be a colored artifact.
- Normal can be any color, and will be assigned as needed for logic and to balance colors in the set.
- [mana]G[/mana] Bug-type. Bugs will be mostly Insect-, Spider-, or Scorpion-type. The Pokemon that are definitely spiders will have the reach keyword.
- [mana]B[/mana] Dark-type. Dark-types will be primarily Rogues and I may use the Prowl mechanic.
- [mana]R[/mana] Dragon-type. Dragon-types are all Dragons. The mechanic that comes in mind is Devour.
- [mana]R[/mana] Electric-type. Electric-types have no designated types. For those that don"t look like any animal (like Voltorb) I may use Construct. They will bear the Haste keyword.
- [mana]W[/mana] Fairy-type. I will use the Faerie creature type. No mechanic yet.
- [mana]W[/mana] Fighting-type. They will all be Warriors and use the Vigilance (or maybe Prowess) keyword.
- [mana]R[/mana] Fire-type. No designated creature types. Those that have obvious flames on them might use the Elemental creature type and will use the "firebreathing" mechanic.
- [mana]X[/mana] Flying-type. These will have the Flying mechanic, obviously, as will as Levitators.
- [mana]B[/mana] Ghost-type. These will be Spirits. Perhaps using Shadow.
- [mana]G[/mana] Grass-type. Mostly being Plants. Perhaps having mana acceleration.
- [mana]G[/mana] Ground-type. Elementals mostly - not sure about mechanic yet.
- [mana]U[/mana] Ice-type. Ice-types will bear the snow supertype, not sure about creature type. I"ll look through Coldsnap for inspiration on mechanics, perhaps using the [mana]S[/mana] mana.
- [mana]WUBRG[/mana] Normal-type. These cards are... normal. The colors can be anything as needed for set balance and will have the most varied creature types. (Note that Arceus will be a 5-color creature as makes sense.)
- [mana]B[/mana] Poison-type. Not sure about creature type - perhaps Ooze, and will use the wither mechanic.
- [mana]W[/mana] Rock-type. These cards will be primarily Elementals and will use the "holy armor" mechanic ([mana]W[/mana]: This creature gets +0/+1 until end of turn.)
- [mana]X[/mana] Steel-type. These will be artifacts, and will use the Construct type as needed. No mechanic chosen yet, perhaps some kind of metalcraft.
- [mana]W[/mana] Water-type. Will use watery-types as needed like Fish, Jellyfish, Serpent, etc. Perhaps islandwalk as their mechanic.
- Any "legendary" pokemon will bear the Legendary supertype.
- Mega evolutions will use double-faced cards. For mechanical reasons I will choose a designated type ("Avatar") for now that will only appear on the back face of a DFC. Charizard will be a red Creature - Salamander. It will have the trigger "At the beginning of your upkeep, if you control no Avatars, you may transform Charizard." The rear face will be named Charizard X and will be a "Creature - Dragon Salamander Avatar" and say "At the beginning of your upkeep, you may transform Charizard X", to change it back, though it"d require a short period (1 turn) in which you won"t have an Avatar. This reflects the flavor of only having one Mega Pokemon.
- Every evolved Pokemon will be playable by itself. But will also bear the Evolution mechanic. It will be described as "Evolution - (name)." And mean "You may cast this card by sacrificing a card named (name). If you do, the total cost to cast this card is reduced by the sacrificed permanent’s mana cost." This is like the Offering mechanic, except not Instant-speed and going by card name rather than creature type.
- Any thoughts on Pokemon-type mechanics, the creature type to use to represent Megas (and ONLY Megas)? Perhaps a supertype would be needed because you can mess with creature types easily using [card]Conspiracy[/card] or [card]Nameless Inversion[/card].
