  1. I have attended for four years a school with fewer than one percent minority to caucasian student enrollment. However, i do not believe that this negatively affects my ability to form logical opinions on the subject of race relations in the united states. The most controversial issue in America right now seems to be a racial conflict between african americans and caucasians. In my mind, violence and argument are pointless and will only escalate the issue. It is important for humans to see each other as humans, and in this case i personally believe that no particular group of humans is at fault for the conflict in america today. Often, i feel that caucasian individuals today are blamed for the actions of men who lived hundreds of years ago. I know for a fact that i have never raped, murdered, beaten, enslaved, or otherwise wronged any other human simply because i felt superior to them. Nevertheless, i am indirectly put down in educational settings and by the media for being a caucasian male. For example, last year during AP English language and composition about sixty percent of the works we read were written by women, and about eighty percent of those were articles promoting feminism and the female identity. Another approximately sixty five percent of the works we read in the class were articles, modern and antiquated, written promoting the black american and his struggle. Males were occasionally singled out explicitly in the works, but i could feel the weight of others (including those who are members of my own race and even social status) criticizing me indirectly for the color of my skin. This may be my white privilege talking, but it is absolutely ridiculous to pay for persecution that happened in previous generations with more persecution today. I am also of the somewhat unpopular opinion that so-called “reverse racism” does in fact exist, and feel that in such a time of equality and technological advance race shouldn’t even be an issue. Personally, I believe that any clause mentioning race in law should be removed, as our political obsession with the subject only perpetuates racism in both directions.
