  1. [03:11] <Roland> ==START!==
  2. [03:11] <Roland> Roll initiative if you didn't already.
  3. [03:11] <Susana_Orwell> !roll 1d20+2
  4. [03:11] <NOTTyche[Dice]> rolled 1d20+2 --> [ 1d20=12 ] | {14}
  5. [03:11] <Roland> !roll 3#d20-2
  6. [03:11] <NOTTyche[Dice]> Error: Invalid Expression
  7. [03:11] <Roland> !roll 3#1d20-2
  8. [03:11] <NOTTyche[Dice]> rolled 3#1d20-2 --> | [ 1d20=17 ]{15}, [ 1d20=3 ]{1}, [ 1d20=8 ]{6}
  9. [03:11] <Susana_Orwell> you need the "1"
  10. [03:12] <Roland> One of the dying trolls goes first, ambling up to you and attempting to slash you with overgrown nails that may very well serve as claws.
  11. [03:12] <Roland> !roll 1d20-2
  12. [03:12] <NOTTyche[Dice]> rolled 1d20-2 --> [ 1d20=19 ] | {17}
  13. [03:12] <Roland> Yeesh!
  14. [03:12] <Roland> !roll 1d4-2
  15. [03:12] <NOTTyche[Dice]> rolled 1d4-2 --> [ 1d4=1 ] | {-1}
  16. [03:12] <Roland> While the attack connects, the nails aren't terribly effective, and you take no damage.
  17. [03:13] <Roland> It is now your turn.
  18. [03:14] <Roland> (I'm going to up the damage dice size on subsequent attacks; with a -2 mod, the risk is too low)
  19. [03:14] <Susana_Orwell> "Not a very convincing way to ask for alms, tearing them from a grubslinger's flesh." I say, making some space, before shooting off a multistrike 2 at all three.
  20. [03:15] <Susana_Orwell> !roll 3#1d20+2
  21. [03:15] <NOTTyche[Dice]> rolled 3#1d20+2 --> | [ 1d20=12 ]{14}, [ 1d20=6 ]{8}, [ 1d20=5 ]{7}
  22. [03:15] <Roland> Your int mod is too low for multistrike 2
  23. [03:15] <Roland> However, since you have a second gun, I'll allow it
  24. [03:15] <Susana_Orwell> So it is, I completely forgot about that.
  25. [03:15] <Roland> All three shots connect
  26. [03:15] <Susana_Orwell> !roll 2#1d6+2
  27. [03:15] <NOTTyche[Dice]> rolled 2#1d6+2 --> | [ 1d6=6 ]{8}, [ 1d6=4 ]{6}
  28. [03:15] <Susana_Orwell> !roll 1d6
  29. [03:15] <NOTTyche[Dice]> rolled 1d6 --> [ 1d6=1 ] | {1}
  30. [03:16] <Roland> Baddies one and 2 die instant. Your shot with the second gun grazes the third.
  31. [03:16] <Roland> Do you move, or do you hold your ground? The remaining enemy is 20 feet from you.
  32. [03:17] <Susana_Orwell> Let him come, I'll put him down just like the other two.
  33. [03:17] <Susana_Orwell> I end my turn.
  34. [03:18] <Roland> The last troll (a highblood female, it would seem) limps up and attempts to rake the flesh from your face.
  35. [03:18] <Roland> !roll 1d20-2
  36. [03:18] <NOTTyche[Dice]> rolled 1d20-2 --> [ 1d20=2 ] | {0}
  37. [03:18] <Roland> Your face has an aura of "too pretty to be ruined, and she decides not to ruin it at the last second.
  38. [03:18] <Roland> She ends her turn with a groan appropriate to an obvious dead troll walking.
  39. [03:19] <Susana_Orwell> Wouldn't be the first time someone's made that mistake. I step back and fire.
  40. [03:20] <Susana_Orwell> !roll 1d20+2
  41. [03:20] <NOTTyche[Dice]> rolled 1d20+2 --> [ 1d20=9 ] | {11}
  42. [03:20] <Roland> A success
  43. [03:20] <Susana_Orwell> !roll 1d6+2
  44. [03:20] <Roland> Roll damage.
  45. [03:20] <NOTTyche[Dice]> rolled 1d6+2 --> [ 1d6=3 ] | {5}
  46. [03:20] <Roland> The third troll goes down with a scream.
  47. [03:20] <Roland> This scream seems to echo throughout the city, and you hear screams from all around you
  48. [03:20] <Roland> More are coming, Grubslinger!
  49. [03:21] <Roland> They step out from the shadows of the ruins all around you.
  50. [03:21] <Roland> 10, 20, 50, then 100!
  51. [03:21] <Roland> By God, they never stop!
  52. [03:22] <Roland> To put your situation plainly, you are still standing with your back to the door.
  53. [03:22] <Susana_Orwell> Some might call what I'm about to do running away. I agree with them. I bolt straight into the skyscraper behind me.
  54. [03:22] <Roland> Ah. Good.
  55. [03:22] <Roland> The door is heavy, but you have so much time, given the pace and distance the suffering trolls have to cover, that it's easy to open it.
  56. [03:23] <Roland> There's a lock on the door, and a heavy iron bar.
  57. [03:24] <Susana_Orwell> I will gladly make use of them both.
  58. [03:24] <Roland> Will you wait until the trolls begin banging on it, or will you explore?
  59. [03:25] <Susana_Orwell> The options being, wait for the clamor of the masses to take my body, and look for a way to avoid that, I will take the latter.
  60. [03:26] <Roland> Very good.
  61. [03:26] <Roland> As with the station, this building is alarmingly clean.
  62. [03:26] <Roland> Again, perhaps out of some superstitious fear, or some sort of desire to preserve some memory of this city's former glory.
  63. [03:26] <Roland> There are a number of doors, one labeled stairs, and an elevator.
  64. [03:27] <Roland> There's still power to the building, as well.
  65. [03:27] <Roland> The lights are all lit, casting the room in a soft glow, like a fancy hotel lobby at night.
  66. [03:28] <Susana_Orwell> That door wasn't locked, meaning the trolls out there have stayed out of this place for some reason, or something let me in. I read the label of the stairs.
  67. [03:28] <Roland> It simply says "stairs". You have no reason to believe that it doesn't go all the way to the roof of the building.
  68. [03:29] <Roland> As you read it, you hear banging on the door behind you. It is a very weak banging, despite the dozens of trolls likely involved in the assault on it.
  69. [03:31] <Susana_Orwell> The trolls I fought were pathetically weak, but they should still be able to throw their weight into breaking down the door. That should be stronger, but that it exists means I'm on a clock. The doors down here will trap me as like as not, and the stairs might exhaust me. I call the elevator.
  70. [03:31] <Roland> The elevator begins coming down from floor 40.
  71. [03:31] <Roland> True to your suspicions, the trolls do begin simply pushing against the door.
  72. [03:31] <Roland> It creaks under the strain.
  73. [03:32] <Roland> !roll 1d20
  74. [03:32] <NOTTyche[Dice]> rolled 1d20 --> [ 1d20=7 ] | {7}
  75. [03:32] <Roland> Still, it holds.
  76. [03:32] <Roland> The elevator hits floor 20
  77. [03:32] <Roland> !roll 1d20
  78. [03:32] <NOTTyche[Dice]> rolled 1d20 --> [ 1d20=20 ] | {20}
  79. [03:32] <Susana_Orwell> WELP
  80. [03:32] <Roland> Don't worry. I'm rolling for the door
  81. [03:32] <Roland> Not the horde.
  82. [03:32] <Susana_Orwell> Oh, UNWELP
  83. [03:33] <Roland> Even then, you'd be fine.
  84. [03:33] <Roland> The elevator seems to slow as it reaches floor 5, in anticipation of stopping.
  85. [03:33] <Roland> !roll 1d20
  86. [03:33] <NOTTyche[Dice]> rolled 1d20 --> [ 1d20=10 ] | {10}
  87. [03:33] <Roland> Still the door holds, but you hear the hinges starting to come off
  88. [03:33] <Roland> Good fucking grief.
  89. [03:33] <Roland> The elevator doors open.
  90. [03:34] <Susana_Orwell> Good door, best friend. I get the fuck in the elevator and hit the button for the highest floor.
  91. [03:34] <Roland> Very well. The door promptly closes, and the elevator shoots to the top.
  92. [03:34] <Roland> Despite the fact that you are climbing the tower alarmingly fast, the elevator ride is pleasant and smooth.
  93. [03:35] <Roland> Faint muzak plays through the speakers, but it is so garbled and crackled, you have a feeling that it'd be better if it weren't there at all.
  94. [03:35] <Roland> Eventually, the elevator reaches the top floor.
  95. [03:35] <Susana_Orwell> That assumes that any muzak wouldn't be better not being there at all.
  96. [03:35] <Roland> You exit into a room, full of cubicles.
  97. [03:36] <Susana_Orwell> I check to see if the stairs lead up to this floor, I also check to see which floor I'm on, and if there's a way onto the roof from here. Alternatively, if there are windows that would face the front.
  98. [03:37] <Roland> The floor you're on is 99. The stairs do lead up to the top (you can see a door not far off labeled "stairs," even though you'd have to be a madman to climb more than ten flights), and there are windows lining the outside of the building in side offices, if that's what you mean.
  99. [03:38] <Roland> Don't make a rookie mistake here, Susana.
  100. [03:38] <Susana_Orwell> It'll take the horde a while to reach me, I head to the windows to check how large it is.
  101. [03:39] <Roland> How large what is?
  102. [03:39] <Susana_Orwell> The horde.
  103. [03:39] <Roland> Oh! Oh!
  104. [03:39] <Roland> The horde appears to still be stuck at the door, which is now on plot strength.
  105. [03:39] <Roland> There may be about 200 of them now, but more seem to be flooding in with every passing second.
  106. [03:40] <Roland> You hear a faint beeping from a computer in the office.
  107. [03:40] <Susana_Orwell> I go to the computer, my mind racing as I try to come up with plans that will allow me to survive this.
  108. [03:40] <Roland> You see... Sharni's tower.
  109. [03:41] <Roland> The computer appears to be a pair of screens (LCD), with a laptop on a platform next to it.
  110. [03:41] <Susana_Orwell> I'd much rather be there than here, but why is there here?
  111. [03:41] <Roland> Your master's teachings come back to you:
  112. [03:42] <Roland> "Remember, Susana, when pailing, it's important to-" NO! NOT THAT ONE!
  113. [03:42] <Roland> This one: "Ka, Susana. It guides all things, and all things serve its purpose."
  114. [03:43] <Susana_Orwell> I sigh at the memory of sex ed with him, but I'm damned certain ka has some explaining to do here. I look closer at the computers, trying to see what their purpose was.
  115. [03:43] <Roland> You see what looks like an "eject" button on the platform with the laptop.
  116. [03:44] <Roland> It appears that this was once a busy accounting firm.
  117. [03:44] <Roland> Or, at least, this floor housed one. Lord knows what other things were housed here.
  118. [03:44] <Roland> Hence, the need for three screens (counting the laptop.)
  119. [03:44] <Susana_Orwell> Well, I have been meaning to get something to replace my tablet since I gave it to Sharni. I eject the laptop. And continue to fail to see how any of this is going to help me not get eaten.
  120. [03:46] <Roland> As you take the laptop, the dying ones begin pouring in through the now shattered door. A voice comes over the PA system:
  121. [03:46] <Roland> "Catastrophic breach confirmed in lobby. Initiating riot protocols.
  122. [03:46] <Roland> "
  123. [03:46] <Roland> The elevator begins making a sound as though it were being held. Shutters come down over each door.
  124. [03:46] <Roland> ...including yours.
  125. [03:47] <Susana_Orwell> Well, there went any hopes of escape. Why did a place this advanced only have a metal bar and a lock at its front door?
  126. [03:48] <Roland> Good question. Perhaps preliminary riot protocols were meant to be initiated? It doesn't matter. You're *probably* safe, for the moment, but as you look out the window, you see a meteor crash in the outskirts of the city.
  127. [03:48] <Roland> Now is actually an excellent stopping point, if it pleases ye.
  128. [03:49] <Susana_Orwell> Alright.
  129. [03:49] <Susana_Orwell> Everything's going to shit, and we'll pause now, I like it.
  130. [03:49] <Roland> We can't go much further without Sharni
  131. [03:49] <Roland> And I'm thinking of a way around Taniel
  132. [03:49] <Roland> So...
  133. [03:49] <Roland> ==END!==
