	Much to her crushing dismay, the weeks that followed was more or less what Star expected. By the Monday, their first date at the concert was a thing of legend, everywhere Marco went he was getting asked for high fives and fist bumps from other guys. Jackie's life didn't seem to change much other than Brittney Wong giving her the stink eye, as she believed Jackie was dating someone so beneath her league like Marco, Jackie just waved her off though, she did not care. She was in love. A fact that she was not inclined to hide, they sat together at lunch, between classes they would make out in the halls, and Marco would walk her to and from school every day.
Star, on the other hand, now had to take the bus home. She really missed walking with Marco; in hindsight it then that they would joke about all the dumb things that happened during the day and make plans for fun things to do in the evening. That is, of course, when Marco was done with his homework...and done helping Star with her homework to the point that he just gave up and did it for her.


Granted, Marco and Jackie did tell Star to join them on their walk back to Jackie's house; at least Marco did, Jackie never said anything and just started walking, but as long as it wasn't a no Marco would insist. Star did a few times, but it wasn't exactly what she was expecting, or maybe it was exactly what she was expecting; Marco and Jackie were in their own little world, they hardly acknowledge Star and when Marco tried to include her into their conversation things would get boring or worse, really quiet really fast. Jackie was usually the first to get quiet, especially if Star and Marco somehow actually managed to get a good conversation going, during those times it almost felt like the days before Jackie. The good feelings wouldn't last though, Jackie would always cut in by doing something to distract Marco like jumping on his shoulders for a piggy back ride, surprise kissing session, or racing all the way to her house. Once Star had the pleasure of all three at once she hopped on his back, kissed him and told him to run the rest of the way...Star was left holding onto her skateboard for her.  She just spat on it and kept walking.


At home, Marco would always run to his computer or video game system to hang out with Jackie some more. Marco's new schedule was now wake up and be with Jackie, go to school and be with Jackie, take Jackie home (to be with her) and finally go home and be with Jackie, occasionally going to his karate classes and talking about Jackie. Star knew something like this was bound to happen and she thought she would be ready, but she was not; the changes had come fast and hard, it wouldn't be so bad if she weren’t still hurt over what Marco had said. Most evenings Star would just go to her bedroom and stay there, Jackie would usually come over and play video games with Marco, especially on weekends. On those days she'd be over all day, Star had better things to do then watch Marco cuddle with Jackie or watch them teach the laser puppies new tricks, even those traitors began to act like Star didn't exist. That is almost all of them; Marco's favorite "son" Marco Jr. always seemed to stick by Stars side. She would put him in her little Star purse and carry him around, she even used her wand to make him a little red puppy hoodie, and he freaking loved it. He may not be human Marco, but at least someone has a sense of loyalty.

Star continued to play fetch with Marco Jr. It was a Saturday night and Star was deciding whether to go explore some other dimension by herself, as she doubts Marco would want to go with her. It wasn't long before there was a knock on her door, Star told whomever it was to come in. It was Marco, Marco Jr. ran to his "daddy" with glee, Marco gladly picked him up and rubbed his belly.

"Hey Star I rented a movie, do you want to come see it with us?" he asked. "Its R-rated and has a lot of action with blood and stuff just how you like it," he added with a smile.

Star considered it. “…Nah.”

"Cmon, please? You've turned me down every time I ask you to do something with me for the past 3 weeks," Marco asked looking sad.

"You mean us, as in you and Jackie," Star corrected.

"Yeah sure I guess if you want to get technical," Marco commented.

"The point is, I feel like you have been ignoring me…us?" Marco said, he was somewhat unsure how to define it. "I'm so happy to have a girlfriend now, but then I end up losing my best friend? What gives, Star?"

Star said nothing, Marco Jr. leaped from Marco's arms and onto Stars lap.

"I know we haven't talked much lately, and granted a lot of that is my fault, but its not like I don't try to include you, but when I do you just...leave" Marco was looking directly at Star but she wouldn't make eye contact.

"Is your wife ok with me joining you two?" Star asked as she massaged Marco Jr.s head.

"And what's that suppose to mean? Jackie isn't even here yet! I don't have to ask for permission if I want my best friend to watch a movie with us...most of the time," Marco added jokingly.

Star almost smiled at that.

"Look Marco, you may want me around but she doesn't, and you either don't see it or don’t want to," Star replied, she had enough of pretending she didn't notice these things much less that they didn't bother her.

Marco sighed; he did sort of get the feeling that Jackie wasn’t too fond of Star hanging out with them. Not since she told him that little fact that she thought Marco and Star had been dating. Jackie had told him that everything is good and that she believes him when he said there is nothing between them romantically, and that she is okay with their friendship. But now, looking back at the past few weeks, Marco saw that maybe Jackie still had some trust issues. And, truth be told, maybe he had subconsciously been trying to make an effort to stay away from her to prove to Jackie that they were just friends, while at the same time trying to act like nothing had changed, and keep Star close like she's always been. Regardless, as far as Marco was concerned, Star's feelings were hurt and it was his fault for not being more honest with her. And possibly Jackie's, but Marco was not ready to open that can of worms just yet.

Marco sat next to her on the bed, Marco Jr. looked happy to have them both around. Marco came clean to Star, telling her what Jackie had said to him at the restaurant and that maybe he went too far with not including her because he was afraid of what Jackie may think. Star was stunned; so lots of people thought she and Marco were a couple? She found herself blushing at the thought.

"I'm sorry, Star. I never meant for you to feel neglected or like you don't mean anything to me, which I swear is not the case," Marco said to her. "I'm new to all this, I love Jackie a lot and would do anything for her, but the one thing I won't do is hurt my best friend" Marco put his arm around her shoulder giving her a quick hug.

"What if after the movie we all three have a awkward chat that we should have had since day one?" Marco asked Star.

"You two are the most important girls in my life, I'd like to think years after me and Jackie get married and you marry uhm...Oskar? No…yes…no? Uh, anyways after you do that that, both our families can always get together on weekends for BBQ's and stuff and like that. We’ll be best friends for life," Marco said trying to sound positive.

Star said nothing, this new information was a lot to process somehow knowing other people saw them so comfy together as to assume they were dating made her feel worse.

"Okay, okay, maybe I'm getting ahead of myself, but the point still stands, I do NOT want to lose either of you over what’s basically a misunderstanding. Please believe that Star," Marco pleaded.

Star turned and gave Marco a hug and he hugged her back. Marco Jr. laid down between them and shot off a few laser blasts.

"Come watch the movie with us, by this time tomorrow things will be better everyone I just know it" Marco said confidently.

Star was unsure of that, but Jackie or no Jackie she wasn't going to mope in her bedroom all night, she was going to spend some time with her best friend. Jackie is just going to have to deal with it, end of story. Star picked up Marco Jr. and followed Marco out of her room. Marco stopped and scratched his chin while Star rubbed his belly. "Who's a good boy?" they both said in unison. Marco Jr. barked his approval.

Marco Jr. was just glad to see his "parents" together again.
