  5.
  6. Spidershark!
  7.
  8.
  9. Even a month in, you still find yourself surprised by your new body. The strength, the power, the ability to hang upside down without concern- They're all new. Exciting.
  10.
  11. And today, you found another for the list!
  12. You can hold your breathe.
  13.
  14. Not human 'hold your breath'. 'I can spend hours underwater' hold your breath.
  15.
  16. And what better way to put it into practice than to prank the people around you?
  17.
  18. It's a simple plan. You enjoy a solid breakfast with your family, give Sheszka a neat scratch behind her ears, then you head to bathe. You make sure to tell her where you'll be.
  19.
  20. That was the set-up, anyway.
  21.
  22. So here you are now, sitting idly on the bottom of the bath, six eyes watching the surface. Waiting. It's only a matter of time. YOu stay still, silent. No bubbles, no ripples. No evidence.
  23.
  24. Sheszka is reliable, of course. In more ways than one. A little time without you, and she starts looking. You see her pass by the bath a few times, leaning to the nest and sniffing. That she can pick your scent out from your family is more than a little impressive.
  25.
  26. She winds her way around the nest, searching high and low. And eventually, there's only one place she hasn't checked.
  27.
  28. She trots up to the edge of the bath, nose sniffing the air. Her paws firmly planted in the ledge, she leans out over the water, looking every which way.
  29.
  30. And then she looks down. There's a split second of confusion, the beginning of realization, her eyes widening, her paws starting to scramble backwards-
  31.
  32. And you erupt from the pool, water exploding all around you like a demented fountain, roaring all the while. Sheszka yelps, trying to reverse away from her inevitable destiny, but there is no escape. Your hands snap out, catching her neatly, and she freezes in your grasp as gravity returns, dragging you both into the frothy water.
  33.
  34. Mom looks on with a vaguely amused smile.
  35.
  36. The aftermath is you washing a soggy wolfgirl, warming the water around as you brush out her hair, scrub her all over. She relaxes eventually, leaning back into your arms and letting herself float. It's a good start to a morning, all in all.
  37.
  38.
  39.
  40.
  41. The (Non)Adventures of Elle the Spider
  42.
  43.
  44. The rustling wakes you first.
  45. The click-clack of chitin keeps you there.
  46.
  47. You don't bother opening your eyes, though. It's too early, and that means that it's Lyra. Probably buried in her friends. Maybe Sara too.
  48.
  49. Keeping your eyes shut isn't any real effort, even with the noise and the rising sun. You relax in the slow heat, savouring the morning. Wonderful.
  50.
  51. The boys are next, moving so close in time to each other that they sound like a single person. After that is- Hmmmm. Leaving the nest, no kissy noises. Aria is going out then?
  52.
  53. Mom always shares a kiss with Dad before she leaves. You made her explain it- You tried, anyway. She said it was a kiss, and that you were too young, and then she threw herself out of the nest.
  54.
  55. Literally.
  56.
  57. Dad just laughed, and went back to his books.
  58.
  59. Ignoring your mother's gravity assisted escape tactics, If Aria is leaving this early, she's going hunting. And if Aria is hunting, then that means that you don't have to.
  60.
  61. And if you don't have to-
  62. You crack your eyes, just a little, and stretch luxuriously over the nest floor, letting out a little hum of pleasure.
  63.
  64. With Ari's constant training-till-she-drops, you've been picking up the slack with hunting. Sara is always busy with Dad, and Lyra... Well, Lyra is kind of all over the place. Ruins, village, Moths. If she goes hunting, she'll feed half the family or more.
  65.
  66. You just, y'know, can't really count on her to do that. Half the time she doesn't come home, even. And when she does, she's adopted something else.
  67.
  68. At this point, you're just waiting for her to turn up with a dragon in tow, a silk leash wrapped around it's neck.
  69.
  70. You push yourself up till you're sitting. Kind of. Your spider half is on the ground, and your human half (elf half?) is lying lazily across your shell.
  71.
  72. A few moments sees you switch from a light silk blouse- It was a real trick thinning it out without leaving it too weak, but now you can reliably make delicate little pieces of clothing. You switch to a sun-dress. Which is apparently a dress you wear in the sun? You're fairly certain you where all your clothing in the sun, but you're not one to argue.
  73.
  74. When you get to making something new, though, you'll name it better.
  75.
  76. Your hands have already started, drawing silk, weaving another thin sheet to work with. It's a good base, but you had plans for your next day off.
  77.
  78. Lace. Lots and lots of lace. Maybe a pattern in it over the dress? Ooh, or just the shoulders, a little lace shawl. Dying the dress? A night deep blue, leave the lace white over it. Yes, yes. This sounds good.
  79.
  80. A stop by the bath- Who knew Lyra had any brains for luxury at all? Let along something like this? If you could weave in it, you'd never leave. Anyway, You've got a nonstop source of water. A bit of this, a bit of that- And you've blue thread and shimmering blue silk.
  81. Perfect.
  82.
  83. Your hands slice and sew, working thread and needle through the cloth easily. You barely need designs anymore. You hum as you work, piecing together your visions into reality.
  84.
  85. The thread bugs you, though. It just doesn't cut it. You read a few things- You think you could make it, given the things they use, anyway. You can probably poke Lyra for it. Pass her a dress or two before she goes into the village. What was it? A spindle? You could just tell her to get 'the thing that makes thread' you think with a giggle.
  86.
  87. She gets all sorts of embarrassed about things, but she does them anyway.
  88.
  89. The lace is coming together nicely. You kind of want to try it out, but you have to divide your projects between Human shaped and giant spider shaped- You did make that one dress that covered your shell, but you felt a little silly wearing it.
  90.
  91. Everything, everything, though-
  92. Well, you've got a plan.
  93.
  94. You're going to move to the city. You'll set up shop and you'll make clothing. All sorts of clothing, for all sorts of people. The trader in town said that it'd be a bit of a shock for people to see an arachne in town, but that doesn't matter. Maybe you'll start in the village, or something.
  95.
  96. The sun is starting to set by the time you hold up the glimmering dress- The stark difference between the lace and the dress, the loose, billowing cut.
  97.
  98. Perfect. The whole day was perfect. You didn't even move.
  99. And here comes food!
  100.
  101. And here comes Lyra.
  102. With a new girl in her arms. A moth, this time.
  103.
  104. Slim, wings on her back, nice accents with puffs of fur. The blue would be a bit much with her, maybe. But against her pale skin... Hmm.
  105. Maybe tomorrow then.
  106. It'd be nice to have another free day.
