  12.
  13. What: Mass march on Chicago City Hall demanding community
  14. control of police.
  15.
  16. When: Saturday, August 29, 2015 at Noon.
  17. Where: Kick-off from Federal Plaza, Adams and Dearborn
  18. Who: Thousands of people from communities most affected by police
  19. murders and other police crimes, together with unions and
  20. religious organizations.
  21.
  22. Why:
  23. • Because over 120 people have been murdered by police in Chicago since 2007, and not a single officer has been held to account.
  24. • Because torture and coercion are still practiced by police to extract confessions from suspects.
  25. • Because over 100 Black men are still in prison after being tortured by Chicago Police.
  26. • Because the Independent Police Review Authority and the Chicago Police Board have never taken action against a police officer for an unjustified shooting.
  27.
  28. The marchers are demanding that the Mayor and City Council pass an ordinance creating and empowering an all-elected Civilian Police Accountability Council (CPAC). Organized by the Chicago Alliance Against Racist and Political Repression, the coalition for CPAC has gathered over 20,000 signatures on a petition demanding its passage.
