第二百二十八話「裏切り者に逃げられて」


 ギース・ヌーカディア。
　ヌカ族という種族の最後の生き残り。
　苦手な事は戦闘。
　得意なことはそれ以外。
　剣も魔術も使えないにも関わらず、ずっと冒険者を続けており、現在のランクはS級。

　それが、オルステッドの知るギースという人物だった。

『……ギースはこれまで、俺がどんな行動をしても、動きを変えた事はなかった。ゆえに、使徒ではないと思っていた』

Chapter 228 : The Traitor Escaped

Gisu Nukadia
The last survivor of the race called Nuka tribe.
Combat experience is weak.

　自分の介入する歴史、しない歴史。
　全てを知っている彼が通ってきたどのループの中でも、ギースの行動は一貫していたという。

　冒険者として生き、冒険者として死んだ。
　周囲で何が起きようとも、おかしな動きは一切しなかった。

　オルステッドは、隠れたヒトガミの使徒を探すのは得意だ。

Orsted. He understood how this world and people operated with his own actions,

　ギースのように、高い戦闘力を持たず、ヒトガミから龍神と戦っていると聞いている者の中には、オルステッドを見て黙秘しようとする者もいる。
　彼らは表立っては動かず、影のように動いて、要所要所で別の使徒の手助けをする。
　そうした使徒を、オルステッドは全て、殺してきた。
　彼にはループがあったから、見つけて殺すのは、容易だった。

　だが、ギースだけは違ったという。
　ギースだけは、別段怪しい所は無く、使徒だった事も一度もなかったという。
　何をしても、奴はヒトガミの使徒らしい行動を取らなかった。
　例え、殺される寸前であっても、だ。

Just like Gisu, people not having high combat strength, those who are going to keep secretly watching are also among those who have heard about the fight with Dragon God from Hitogami.

『そして俺は、それを、歴史通りだと錯覚していた……勝てないわけだ……』

　文章だけでやりとりすると、オルステッドがしょんぼりしているのがわかる。
　彼は今まで、ギースが使徒だった可能性に気づいていなかった。
　ヒトガミからすれば、笑いが止まらなかっただろう。
　あいつ、まだギースに気づいてないよ、って。
　まあ、最初は重要なコマとは思っていなかったかもしれないが。

『しかし、よくやった』

　ゆえに、ギースがヒトガミの切り札、最後の砦、である可能性は、十分にあると思う。
　ヒトガミが隠していた最後の使徒。
　それがギース……というと、あまりピンとは来ないがね。

　オルステッドは、これで勝ったと思っている。
　そうだろう。
　彼にはループがあるのだ。
　もし今回で負けたとしても、次はギースを殺せばいい。
　そうすれば、また一歩、勝利に近づく。

But, we cant imagine how many such apostles exists.
At any rate, Orsted can loop in time but Hitogami can't.
Even if he wants to create a similar apostle, it shouldn't go all too well.

『That guy is Hitogami's trump card. Next time there won't be any.』

　言い訳臭くて、ちょっと笑った。

　ミリス教団も、ラトレイア家も、積極的に協力してくれており、
　まだ捜索の手は伸ばしているが、恐らく、逃げ切られただろう。

　無論、ミリスだけではない。
　すぐにドルディア族へと連絡を取り、大森林でも指名手配してもらった。
　アリエルにも通告し、アスラ王国でも指名手配をしてもらった。
　ロキシーに頼み、ラノア王国への要請も回してもらった。

One month has passed since Gisu was detected as an apostle.

　広く、魔族の目立たない魔大陸。
　もし、ギースが俺の知らない転移魔法陣を使って移動したのなら、そのどちらでもない可能性もある。

　考えてみれば、ギースは今回、俺をあっさりと殺す事はできたはずだ。
　俺はあいつを信用してたし、無防備に背中を見せた事もある。
　でも、奴は手出ししなかった。
　あくまで知略で俺を罠にハメようとした。

Gisu is left at large.

　なら、あの手紙の内容を信じていいのではないか。
　ヒトガミの指示とはいえ、あくまで堂々と、というのがギースのやり方なのかもしれない。
　誰かを殺す時は、ちゃんと手段を選ばないと失敗する。
　ジンクスだ。

　もっとも、そう思わせておいて実際は逆。
　ギースはクリフ邸の戸棚にでも隠れていて、俺が寝た後に毒ナイフでブスリ、なんて可能性もある。

　考えても仕方がない。

　ひとまず、襲撃は無かった。
　ギースが予め戦力を集めておいた、という事は無い。
　今頃は、どこかで俺に勝てる戦力を集めているのだろう。

　そう考えたいが、いつ襲われるか分からない、という気持ちが消えない。
　怖い。

　ラトレイア家がゼニスの面倒を見てくれていた、というのもあるだろうが、圧倒的な効率だ。

　そんなアイシャが、気を利かせたのだろう。

　ギース失踪から一ヶ月が経過した頃。
　エリスがミリス神聖国へと派遣されてきたのだ。
　転移魔法陣を通って、俺を守りに来てくれたのだ。

Eris came here after being dispatched by the Holy Kingdom of Milis.
She came from the Teleportation Magic Encampment to protect me.


　彼女は完全武装だった。
　普段着ではなく、剣王が身に付けるコートに、剣を二本。
　誰が見ても名うての剣士とわかる格好で、堂々とやってきた。

「私がきたからには、もう大丈夫よ！　みんな真っ二つにしてやるわ！」

　エリスは俺を元気づけるようにそう言った。

「ギースも馬鹿ね！　ルーデウスに逆らうなんて！　センパイにゃあ敵わねぇ、敵わねぇってあんなに言ってたのに！」

She was perfectly armed.
Not in casual wear but two swords attached to the body coat of the sword king.
With an appearance to be identified as a notorious swordswoman when anyone looked, with a dignified look she came over.

　元気にそう言い放つエリスを見ていると、俺の恐怖も薄れた。
　少なくとも、数日中に戦闘が起こり、殺される事はないだろう。
　そう思えた。

「エリス……」

　安心した俺は、エリスを抱きしめた。
　そのまま胸を揉みしだき、殴り殺された。
　薄れゆく意識の中、俺は、悟った。
　これがギースの策略だったのだ、と。

That this was Gisu's strategy all along.

　落ち着いた所で、整理してみる。
　ひとまず、状況から『ギースが戦力を集めて、真正面から来る』というのを信じた場合、これからの俺の行動は三つだ。

　１、ギースの捜索
　２、魔導鎧（俺自身）の強化
　３、対抗戦力のスカウト

　並べてみると、今までとそうやることは変わりない。
　８０年後を見据えた戦力が、数年後ぐらいを見据えたものに変わるってだけだ。

　ただ、ギースも普通の奴ではない。
　正々堂々真正面からといっても、どういう形で来るかわからない。
　数を集めてくるのか、質でくるのか。

　そんなのが用意出来れば、俺に勝つぐらいは、容易だろう。
　なんちゃって。

　でも、そんな人材を集めるには、時間が掛かるはずだ。
　そして、数もそう多くは無い。
　一年か、二年。
　最低でもそれぐらいの期間は掛かると見ていいだろう。

　だが、集まってしまえば、負けると思う。
　そんな数年も掛けて周到に用意された罠に捕まって、俺が負けないはずがない。
　神殿騎士団だってあれだけやったのだ。
　ヒトガミの使徒が、それ以上のことをできないとは思えない。

According to Orsted, there are only a few people who can defeat me with a board of complete set. (TLN : Chess ref?)
But, I experienced the violence of numbers just the other day.
Temple Knight Party are able to fight like that, there are several people with the talent of being a major world power class.
If such a thing can be prepared, at least my victory will be simple.
Just kidding.

　つまり、これからの仕事では、全て敵がいると想定して動く事になる。
　少なくとも、ギースがいる可能性が高いのは、王竜王国と、魔大陸だ。

　特に、魔大陸の確率が高そうだな。
　アトーフェとか、俺を倒すと聞けば、喜んで力を貸しそうだしな。
　魔大陸は最後にする予定だったが、早めに行かねばなるまい。

　でも、優先順位としては、王竜王国が先でいいだろう。
　あそこにいる死神ランドルフは、『二式改』に身を包んだ俺に勝利している。
　確実な駒だ。
　先んじて、抑えておきたい。

But, as order of preference goes, KDK should be good first.
There lives God of Death Randolf who won against me wearing the 『Mk. II』.
He's a reliable chess piece.
I want to control it first.


　方向性は決まった。
　傭兵団はまだ軌道には乗りきっていないが、ラトレイア家と教団の後援もある。
　二つのお偉いさんから仕事をもらっているうちは、立ち行かなくなる事もあるまい。
　最低限の事はできた。

　一度、本部(シャリーア)に戻ろう。
　そこで、改めて、今後の動きについて、オルステッドと詰めるのだ。

　だが、その前に各所への挨拶はしておかなければなるまい。

The Mercenary Group is not on track yet but I have the support of the Latreia and the Religious Organization.
While receiving work from two big-shots, I intent not to keep the matter to maintain itself. //
I was able to do the bare minimum.

For once, let's return to headquarters(Sharia).
Thereupon, once again, concerning the movement hereafter, move closer to Orsted. //

But, before that I intend to go to various place and address them.

　ラトレイア家へと赴き、エリスを紹介すると同時に、帰還を告げた。

「そうですか」

　クレアはあまり礼儀のなっていないエリスを見ても顔をしかめる事はなかった。
　俺が言ったことを守ってくれているのだろう。
　ただ彼女は、ただただ残念な顔をしていた。

「ゼニスは無論、連れて帰るのですね？」
「はい。俺が責任を持って、世話をします」
「わかりました」

I proceeded to go towards the Latreia House, while introducing Eris I announced my repatriation.

　彼女はラトレイア家が懐かしいのか、よく動いていたと言う。
　屋敷内を散策したり、庭を見て回ったり。
　事ある毎に、お手伝いさんを連れて、外に散歩にも出ていこうとしたり。
　相変わらず、ボーっとしたままだったが、久しぶりの故郷を満喫していたのは、よくわかった。

　そんな彼女を見て、ラトレイア家の紳士淑女の皆さんは、悲しそうな顔をしていたという。
　長男のエドガーに、長女のアニス……ギースのせいで、彼らには挨拶もできなかった。
　だが、一応「またくる時には必ず挨拶を」と、言伝を頼んでおいた。

Zenith has been looked after by the Latreia for this one month.
Since then Zenith has been looked after by the Latreia House in place of the busy me and Aisha.

「最後に、ノルンの顔を見れなかったのが、心残りですが」
「また来ますよ、今度はノルンや、俺の子供も連れてね」

　紆余曲折あったが……。
　クレアも悪い人間ではない。
　嫌な人ではあるが、悪くはない。
　妻や子供を顔見せするぐらいなら、何の問題もない。
　今度こそ、挨拶だけで済ませるのだ。

「いいえ、恐らく、私の年齢から言って、これが今生の別れとなってもおかしくありません」

　今生の別れ。
　彼女の年齢は、すでに60を超えている。
　この世界の平均寿命は知らないが、彼女はまだまだ頑健だ。

　だが、シャリーアまでの往復の距離は約4年。
　近い距離ではない。
　行ってすぐ戻ってくるわけもなし、次に会うのは、軽く10年以上先。
　その頃、クレアは70歳以上。
　何があっても、おかしくない歳ではある。

"Finally, I just regret not being able to see Norn's face."
"I'll come again and bring Norn and my children as well."

There were some twists and turns but....
Claire is not a bad person.
She is an unpleasant person but she is not evil.
There is no problem if I just have to show her my wives' or children's faces.

　一応、世界的に禁忌とされているものだしな。

　アスラ王国でも、王竜王国でも、おそらくミリスの王家でも、万が一に備えて使われてはいるんだろうけど。
　でも、世界三大国家たる彼らですら隠してるんだよなぁ。

「ルーデウス様。ゼニスを連れてきてくれて。本当にありがとうございました」

　クレアはそう言って、頭を下げた。
　彼女は先日、ゼニスと一緒に馬車に乗って、劇なんか見に行ったりしていたそう

　おみやげは二つ。
　俺の腕輪とよく似た装飾を持つ腕輪と、オルステッドから送られてきた守護魔獣召喚のスクロールだ。

　この腕輪、アイシャがこの一ヶ月の間に、ミリスの職人に頼んで作っておいたものだ。
　本来なら宝石がはめ込まれる台座には、石が埋め込まれている。
　これは俺が土魔術で作った黒く光沢を持つ石で、龍神の紋章が刻まれている。
　誰が見ても、龍神配下の証とわかるだろう。

　そんなものを持って神子を呼び出してもらうと、取り巻き連中が出てきた。

　彼女は、左遷を免れた。
　俺の名前が書かれた嘆願書が役に立ったらしい。

　まあ、左遷の代わりに降格したらしく、隊長ではなかった。
　新しく派遣されてきた隊長の下で、副隊長的な位置に落ち着いていた。

　ちなみに、新隊長はあまり柔軟な人ではないようだった。
　腕輪はともかく、教団内で怪しげな召喚魔術を使うなど言語道断と拒否された。
　もっとも、「これなるは龍神オルステッド様が、部下（ルーデウス）を守ってくれた神子に対する贈り物！　一介の隊長ごときに拒否する権限なんてねぇ！！」なんて感じで無理に押し通したが……。
　この隊長さん、こんなんじゃきっと出世できないな。

　体長は１メートルぐらい。
　レオに比べると小さいが、それでも存在感があり、金色の瞳には神々しさがあった。

　ペルギウスの精霊シリーズは出てこなかった。
　あれはウルトラレアだから、そうそう出てはこないだろう。
　今回は神子専用ってことで、パックも違うだろうしな。

　何にせよ、聖獣っぽいのが出てよかった。
　これで黒光りするでっかいクモとか出てきたら、隊長さんの拒否を押し通せない所だったかもしれない

「大切にしますね！」


The animal that came out of the scroll was a silver colored owl.
Probably around 1 meter long.
It's small compared to Leo but it's existence is still there, with golden colored pupil it felt like divinity.

No one came out from Pergius' spirit series. //
Those are ultra rare so they would probably not come.
This time it's gonna be dedicated to Miko so the pack would also be different.

In any case, it was nice that a sacred beast-like animal came out.
It could be that Mr. Captain would have been persistent in denying it on the spot if a thing like a huge spider with a black lustre had come out.

　最後に、テレーズ以下、『聖墳墓の守り人(アナスタシア・キープ)』にも頭を下げておいた。
　彼らとも、また会うことがあるだろう。

「教皇、枢機卿の争う中で正義を語り、正道を通した」
「ミリス教徒の鑑。あっぱれな男」

　なんて噂がまことしやかに流れている。

　面白いのは噂の出処だ。
　聞く所によると、神殿騎士団の大隊長、聖堂騎士団の副団長といった面々が噂を流したらしい。
　ゆえに下っ端の騎士や神父たちは信憑性の高いものとして、教皇が何やら凄い懐刀を手に入れたのだ、と認識しているようだ。

　そんなのと結婚したって話は……まだしないほうがいいだろう。
　後ろ指を刺されても大丈夫なぐらいビッグになったら公表する、って形でも悪くはあるまい。

　と、俺が憮然とした顔を作っていると、クリフがフッと視線を落とした。

　俺は笑いながら答えた。

「これがクリフ先輩の力じゃなかったら、一体なんなんですか」

　ルイジェルド人形の販売は……ちょっとまだ難しそうだ。
　現状で進めていけば販売までは行けるだろうが、買う人が少なそうだ。
　傭兵団の方もまだ安定してないから問題も多そうだが……。
　何、問題が起きたら、それをクリフの出世の足しにでもしてもらえばいい。

The Mercenary group is not yet stable and there are still numerous problems left but......
Whatever, if a problem occurs, even so it would be fine to add it to Cliff's promotion.

　まだまだ教皇派と枢機卿派の戦いは続くだろう。
　その中で、クリフが自分なりに頑張り、成果を上げて欲しい。

　まぁ、ダメだったら、戻ってきてうちの社員になればいいだけだ。

「この一ヶ月、あまり手伝えなくて済まなかったな……」
「いいえ、気にしないでください」

「といっても、一年後ぐらいにまた顔を出すかもしれませんがね」
「その頃には、リーゼの事を堂々と紹介できるぐらいにはなってるよ」

My fight is my own, Cliff has his own fight.

　ラトレイア家との衝突に、ミリス教団内部での抗争。
　そしてギースの裏切り……。

　色々あったが、お陰でまた一つ、目標が決まった。


　次の敵は、ギースだ。
