  1. “I saw Anya and I talking, taking a walk in the woods. We were teenagers. It was the middle of the day, and I was going to show her a project I was building. We got lost and ended up in a clearing, a flower field. We sat there in the shade and talked for hours. I saw us in college, she was so happy, she was going to help people, and I was going to finally get my music comp courses and start a band like I had dreamed about. That was before the embrace. That was ten whole years ago. I want those days back. I just want her to be okay again. I miss when she was warm.”

  3. “I lived through the first time I looked my lovers in the eyes. I guess that's kinda tellin', ain't it. Sure explains why I was only out for about an hour. Y'know how I got to that point? I had my eyes blown out and almost died. My life's a pile of garbage and they're the best things I got. They're the proverbial diamonds in the dog shit, if the diamonds are the Hope Diamond. Seein' them for the first time was the greatest moment of my life and I'm glad I got to live through it again.”

  5. “I was on a vacation with my mother, back when I was allowed to see the sun. The family packed up our bags and took off across the country, simply because we could. Mom wasn't doomed to die. Ma was okay in the head. I wasn't a vampire. It was wonderful...”

  7. “I saw when I got out of the hospital for the first time. Nyx was so happy to see me... she looked so pretty in the morning sunlight. Now it's all wrong. Everything is wrong.”
  8.
  9. “I was going to be a mother. We had agreed that we weren't right for each other, but this child still became the light of our lives. It was the first time I had seen so much hope in Zviad's eyes, even as they grew weaker, ever weaker from lupus. Vazha, he would have been called. I looked so forward to seeing what he would have grown into. Perhaps it was mere fate that that chance was taken away.”

  11. “My wedding day, was my dream. Under the light of a full moon, for the both of us were harmed by sunlight. We fooled the legal system into believing m'lady Alexis was a man for the sake of our union. My mother made my dress... sometimes I wonder what happened to her.”
