The scene shows that daisy isn’t a good mother to her child and Gatsby was in shock thinking that the child never existed.

He learns of this when Gatsby is over and Daisy suggests that they go to town for a drink.

Tom, Daisy, Nick, Jordan, and Gatsby went to town and Jordan, Nick, and Tom rode in Gatsby’s car and Daisy and Gatsby rode in Tom’s car.

In fear that he would be caught.

Only one person showed up to Gatsby funeral showing that Gatsby wasn’t as popular as believed.
