  1. 20:39 <TyGently> OKAY SO
  2. 20:39 <AidenEldritch> YEAH
  3. 20:39 <TyGently> I was thinking about how two specific gois might be incorporated in third law in a way that is fitting for third law and distinct from other interpretations
  4. 20:40 <AidenEldritch> COOL
  5. 20:40 <TyGently> first: oneiroi
  6. 20:40 <AidenEldritch> NEAT
  7. 20:41 <TyGently> I've been thinking that we'll want to distance ourselves from other depictions of oneiroi and dream magic and stuff, less "second life", more "unknowable dream being within the collective subconscious of humanity"
  8. 20:42 <AidenEldritch> SWEE-okay I'll stop now
  9. 20:43 <TyGently> such that the "oneiroi collective" is sort of an entity or entities existing off the world tree within the dreamed conceptions of all the things that do not exist anywhere in the multiverse, by definition unknowable but still linked to the limits of human imagination
  10. 20:43 <TyGently> it's juuuuust beyond that horizon
  11. 20:43 <AidenEldritch> oneiroi is a complex number
  12. 20:43 <AidenEldritch> okay
  13. 20:44 <TyGently> so, then, how does this matter to anything in third law? how does it actually interact with the narrative?
  14. 20:44 <AidenEldritch> J. C. Randall fell off the multiverse tree
  15. 20:44 <AidenEldritch> it's entirely possible he fell off and hit the oneiroi by mistake
  16. 20:44 <TyGently> exactly
  17. 20:45 <AidenEldritch> and now you have serial reports of dreams of the man himself, wandering through the universes not linked by Ways but rather by minds
  18. 20:45 <AidenEldritch> which in turn links to Analog Kuid
  19. 20:45 <AidenEldritch> *Kid
  20. 20:45 <TyGently> perhaps the OC is at least partially composed of human minds that are no longer fully human because they've gone over that horizon into nothingness
  21. 20:46 <TyGently> and then we could have ONEIROI INCORPORATED, a subsidary of prometheus labsβ„’
  22. 20:46 <TyGently> imagine the applications if you could trap a being made of potential that is by definition unpurposed
  23. 20:46 <AidenEldritch> oh noooooooo
  24. 20:47 <AidenEldritch> Prometheus wrangles infinite unpurposed potential into working with them through legal contracts
  25. 20:47 <TyGently> what if you could bring a little bit of it into people? what if you could bring a little bit of it into our world?
  26. 20:49 <TyGently> and then you're creating a feedback loop, because you're bringing an entity of human imagination into human thought, which by definition extends the bounds of human imagination, which pushes the OC further and further...
  27. 20:49 <AidenEldritch> oh shit
  28. 20:50 <TyGently> which leads me into number two
  29. 20:50 β€” AidenEldritch rubs hands
  30. 20:51 <TyGently> what happens if unreality gets so full that a portion of the OC is forced into the real world? a single being so unused to being human, only barely able to comprehend, and by definition unknowable? constantly changing, defined only by imagination? drifting like a dream, unable to seriously change anything...
  31. 20:51 <TyGently> what would we call that
  32. 20:51 <AidenEldritch> ...
  33. 20:51 <AidenEldritch> SCP-055
  34. 20:51 <TyGently> I was actually going for "nobody" but that works too
  35. 20:51 <AidenEldritch> lol
  36. 20:52 <TyGently> (this'd then tie Nobody pretty easily into SCP-990 if we wish)
  37. 20:53 <AidenEldritch> dream reports and all that
  38. 20:53 <AidenEldritch> cool
  39. 20:54 <TyGently> but in any case, Prometheus filling up the space between universes with dreams of human possibility to the point that unknowable fragments start streaming into our world is a pretty versatile idea
  40. 21:21 <AidenEldritch> so is there anything else or nah
  41. 21:21 <TyGently> that's most of my thoughts on the groups so far
  42. 21:22 <TyGently> I have some ideas for how oneiroi would be implemented in a tale (I'm thinking something from first person, set in the 50s, from perspective of an oneiroi inc exec?) and if I do that the nobody stuff will really just be a plot hook for later picking up upon
  43. 21:23 <AidenEldritch> coolio
  44. 21:23 <TyGently> you are also free to steal stuff
