  1. \\ATB Settings//
  2.
  3. {CLOUD}
  4. “ATB{, }or Active Time Battle{, }is the system
  5. that governs when a character or enemy
  6. is ready to take their turn in battle.”
  7. {NEW PAGE}
  8. “Select {CYAN}[Wait]{WHITE} from ATB on the Config Menu.
  9. This ATB setting has all the gauges 'freeze'
  10. while you select commands for your team.”
  11. {NEW PAGE}
  12. “{CYAN}[Wait]{WHITE} is generally the most useful of the
  13. three ATB settings{, }and can be used to
  14. optimise your party's turns & speed.”
  15. {NEW PAGE}
  16. “{CYAN}[Recommended]{WHITE} ATB is a strange setting.
  17. The gauge is supposed to freeze during attack
  18. animations{, }but will often not do this.
  19. Recommended is{, }uh{, }not recommended.”
  20. {NEW PAGE}
  21. “Finally{, }{CYAN}[Active]{WHITE} keeps the gauges moving
  22. even while selecting commands.
  23. It's dangerous to use{, }but can help nullify a
  24. fast enemy's speed & turn advantage.”
  25. {NEW PAGE}
  26. “Switching ATB modes should be the first step
  27. toward building a strategy against tough
  28. enemies and bosses!”
  29.
  30.
  31. \\ATB Wait Trick//
  32.
  33. {CLOUD}
  34. “The 'Wait' trick is a way of making the
  35. best use of your team's speed to gain
  36. a turn advantage over the enemy.”
  37. {NEW PAGE}
  38. “Set your ATB to {CYAN}[Wait]{WHITE} and when one of
  39. your characters executes their turn,
  40. open a command list to 'freeze' the
  41. ATB gauges of the enemy.”
  42. {NEW PAGE}
  43. “The idea is to 'cover' each other's turns
  44. and keep the enemy from charging their
  45. ATB gauge for as long as possible,
  46. allowing you to get multiple turns.”
  47.
  48.
  49. \\Damage Mitigation//
  50.
  51. {CLOUD}
  52. “There are many ways to reduce the damage you
  53. take in battle{, }and which should be considered
  54. when taking on tough opponents.”
  55. {NEW PAGE}
  56. “First of all{, }having a character in the back row
  57. reduces the damage you take from
  58. physical attacks by 50%. You can swap
  59. between the two using Change.”
  60. {NEW PAGE}
  61. “Second{, }Barrier and MBarrier reduce damage
  62. from physical and magical attacks by
  63. another 50%{, }this stacks with Defend in
  64. the case of Barrier.”
  65. {NEW PAGE}
  66. “Third{, }you can use the Sadness status to reduce
  67. all damage by 30%{, }which again stacks with
  68. other methods of damage reduction. It slows
  69. the rate at which limit breaks fill{, }though.”
  70. {NEW PAGE}
  71. “Finally{, }there's %-based boosts to defence and
  72. magic defence. Hero Drinks and Dragon Force
  73. both provide %-boosts to your stats{, }up to
  74. a maximum of 100%.”
  75. {NEW PAGE}
  76. “And this goes without saying, but equipping
  77. strong armour and accessories that boost
  78. Vitality and Spirit can also reduce damage.
  79. Good luck out there!”
  80.
  81.
  82. \\Character Roles//
  83.
  84. {CLOUD}
  85. “Each character has a specific set of strengths
  86. and weaknesses that make them better
  87. suited to certain roles in battle than others.
  88. Here's a quick idea of that.”
  89. {NEW PAGE}
  90. “[Tank]
  91. A character with high defence and spirit
  92. soaks up damage using Cover Materia.
  93. For best results{, }have them use the Defend
  94. command as well!”
  95. {NEW PAGE}
  96. “[Damage: Physical]
  97. A character with high strength takes this
  98. role. It's great for blitzing through lots of
  99. monsters as attacks are quicker than spells.
  100. They lack versatility{, }though.”
  101. {NEW PAGE}
  102. “[Damage: Spellcaster]
  103. Anyone with a high magic stat takes this role.
  104. You can decimate groups and tough enemies
  105. with the right spells. Just make sure to have
  106. plenty of Materia and MP.”
  107. {NEW PAGE}
  108. “[Support]
  109. It's a bad idea to have everyone on the
  110. offensive for tough fights. It can be a good
  111. idea to designate someone to using healing
  112. and protective magic{, }maybe the Tank.”
  113. {NEW PAGE}
  114. “Of course{, }those are just some very
  115. general examples. You'll want to experiment
  116. with different set-ups to find the right one.
  117. Let's go through a quick run-down of each
  118. character's strengths and weaknesses.”
  119. {NEW PAGE}
  120. “[Cloud]
  121. All-round stats, has a slight edge in Strength
  122. and Magic. Can take on a number of roles.”
  123. {NEW PAGE}
  124. “[Barret]
  125. High Vitality and Strength.
  126. Low Dexterity and Magic.”
  127. {NEW PAGE}
  128. “[Tifa]
  129. High Strength and Dexterity.
  130. Low Magic and Spirit.”
  131. {NEW PAGE}
  132. “[Aeris]
  133. High Magic and Spirit.
  134. Low Strength and Vitality.”
  135. {NEW PAGE}
  136. “[Red XIII]
  137. All-round stats, has a slight edge in Dexterity.
  138. Has a slight deficiency in Vitality and Spirit.”
  139. {NEW PAGE}
  140. “[Yuffie]
  141. High Dexterity and Magic.
  142. Low Vitality and Spirit.”
  143. {NEW PAGE}
  144. “[Cait Sith]
  145. High Vitality, Spirit, and Luck.
  146. Low Strength, Magic, and Dexterity.”
  147. {NEW PAGE}
  148. “[Vincent]
  149. High Magic and Vitality.
  150. Low Dexterity and Spirit.”
  151. {NEW PAGE}
  152. “[Cid]
  153. High Strength, Vitality, and Luck.
  154. Low Magic, Spirit, and Dexterity.”
  155. {NEW PAGE}
  156. “That's all of 'em. Remember to take their
  157. limit breaks and equipment into
  158. account as well.”
  159.
  160.
  161. \\Status Effects//
  162.
  163. [Sleep]
  164. Targets under Sleep cannot act and only
  165. wake up when struck by a physical attack.
  166. Use Magic to hit enemies under Sleep.
  167. {NEW PAGE}
  168. [Poison]
  169. Inflicts incremental damage equal to 1/32
  170. of the afflicted's Max HP. It should be noted
  171. that Poison 'breaks' Defend.
  172. {NEW PAGE}
  173. [Fury]
  174. Accuracy of attacks drop, including spells.
  175. But the rate at which the limit gauge
  176. builds increases dramatically.
  177. {NEW PAGE}
  178. [Sadness]
  179. Decreases damage taken by 30% but
  180. the limit gauge will build much slower.
  181. Useful for defence.
  182. {NEW PAGE}
  183. [Petrify]
  184. Disables a character and makes them
  185. immune to damage. Slow-Numb inflicts
  186. this when the timer runs down.
  187. {NEW PAGE}
  188. [Confuse]
  189. A character will start randomly attacking
  190. themselves and their allies. Enemies cannot
  191. evade attacks while Confused.
  192. {NEW PAGE}
  193. [Berserk]
  194. Boosts attack power and makes you attack
  195. automatically. Can be beneficial in the right
  196. circumstances but treat with caution.
  197. {NEW PAGE}
  198. [Silence]
  199. Prevents the casting of magic. Note that
  200. this applies to 'standard' spells only{, }
  201. such as the ones used by the party.
  202. {NEW PAGE}
  203. [Paralyze]
  204. Temporarily disables a target. Very useful
  205. for getting around an enemy's counters or
  206. special AI triggers.
  207. {NEW PAGE}
  208. [Darkness]
  209. Decreases the accuracy of physical attacks.
  210. This only affects the player team, monsters
  211. are unaffected!
  212. {NEW PAGE}
  213. [Mini]
  214. Target is reduced in size{, }and all physical
  215. attacks deal 1 damage. Certain special
  216. enemy attacks ignore this though!
  217. {NEW PAGE}
  218. [Frog]
  219. Target attack power is greatly reduced
  220. and they are unable to cast spells.
  221. Certain enemy special attacks still work!
  222. {NEW PAGE}
  223. [Dual-Drain/Seizure]
  224. A reverse-regen effect that reduces HP
  225. over time. Use Regen to nullify it or Dispel
  226. to get rid of it.
  227. {NEW PAGE}
  228. [Peerless]
  229. Invincibility. Can now be removed with
  230. Dispel or Debarrier.
  231. Can be prevented with Resist.
  232. {NEW PAGE}
  233. [Resist]
  234. Prevents statuses from being applied.
  235. This extends to positive statuses so
  236. be careful when using it.
  237. {NEW PAGE}
  238. [Deathforce]
  239. A handy status that prevents instant-death.
  240. Try applying this while under Death Sentence
  241. to avoid being killed.
  242.
  243.

  252. you a lot of trouble in the long-run.”
  253. {NEW PAGE}
  254. “The following is a list of general elemental
