  1. Bartimaeus and Ptolemy;
  2. The closest friends you’d ever met.
  3. Their love was quite platonic
  4. Though the phrase hadn’t been coined yet.
  5.
  6. They lived in Alexandria,
  7. Among its royalty.
  8. But neither one had realised
  9. Just what would come to be.
  10.
  11. They were ambushed in the market place;
  12. Barty fought with all his might.
  13. Even so, they were driven back,
  14. It was a losing fight.
  15.
  16. They both hid inside a temple,
  17. Just Bart and Ptolemy.
  18. Then right before the djinn broke in
  19. Bartimaeus was set free.
  20.
  21. It was quite a miserable tale
  22. Of master and his ‘slave’
  23. For while Bart survived that day
  24. Ptolemy went to his grave.
  25.
  26. Bart carried on his legacy.
  27. Wore his form whenever he could.
  28. He was fairly undisturbed until
  29. An escapade with Underwood.
  30.
  31. A pale-skinned boy summoned him,
  32. Someone we know as Nat.
  33. Barty discovered his true name;
  34. Things couldn’t get worse than that.
  35.
  36. But things did get a whole lot worse;
  37. They spiralled out of control.
  38. When Nat stole Simon’s amulet
  39. His actions took their toll.
  40.
  41. Lovelace came to claim it back
  42. And offed the Underwoods.
  43. Barty managed to save Nat
  44. And then everything was good.
  45.
  46. (Not quite!)
  47.
  48. Nat was desperate for revenge
  49. And Barty for his life.
  50. His existence was bound to a tin
  51. Filled with rosemary and strife.
  52. Nat blackmailed Bart to help him out
  53. And foil Lovelace’s plan.
  54. They sneaked into Heddleham Hall
  55. In Squalls and Son’s van.
  56.
  57. Bart avoided Faquarl like the plague
  58. And fought the mercenary instead.
  59. Nat politely declined an apprenticeship
  60. And made sure the guests were fed.
  61.
  62. Eventually the two ‘friends’ met
  63. And raced into the hall.
  64. They were just in time to see Simon
  65. Reveal Parliament’s downfall.
  66.
  67. Lovelace had built a giant pentacle
  68. And acquired a Summoning Horn.
  69. Bart and Nat were powerless;
  70. The Stricture’s threads could not be torn.
  71.
  72. As the magicians admired the chandelier
  73. The Persian carpet was rolled back.
  74. While they were all distracted
  75. Simon proceeded with his attack.
  76.
  77. Ramuthra came from the Other Place
  78. And disrupted each of the planes.
  79. Bart and Nat were then set free
  80. Their efforts no more in vain.
  81.
  82. With cunning tricks and witty chat
  83. Our heroes saved the day.
  84. They did it all with unique style,
  85. Now there’s not much left to say.
  86.
  87. Their story had touched thousands;
  88. The protagonists must live on!
  89. And then in 2005 was born…
  90. …Bartiforums.com! =D
